The Ghostrunner devs’ first-person soulslike launches today on PS5 — Napoleon, plague monsters, sword in one hand, flamethrower in the other, $39.99.
Out today on PS5, Xbox, and PC. Day-one on Xbox Game Pass; on PS5, Plus Premium members get a 90-minute Game Trial today.
Alternate 19th-century Europe where Napoleon’s endless war has become a supernatural plague. You play William, a resurrected British soldier.
Reviews landed Oct 12: Metacritic ~77 overall, PS5 version higher at ~81, no negative reviews. Destructoid and TheGamer gave 9/10; Push Square praised the combat heft and BioShock-style dual-wielding (sword + firearm/transmutation).
Trophy-relevant: 39 trophies (1 platinum, 3 gold, 14 silver, 21 bronze), 0 online, no difficulty-locked trophies, ~15–25 hours to platinum at ~5/10 difficulty. One missable-ish trophy to watch (Abyssal Eviction). New Game+ and a story expansion promised.
The catch in reviews: uneven story pacing, some jank/bugs on PC, and first-person camera occasionally muddying multi-enemy fights. PS5 reviews skew more positive than PC.
Debate: does the first-person camera make a soulslike fresher and more intense, or does a soulslike NEED third-person to read fights fairly? And $40, no pre-orders, Game Pass day one, 90-min PS Plus trial — best-value launch of October, or does day-one-on-subscription kill its momentum?
