Halloween weekend just got its perfect $10 nightmare. Look Outside, the acclaimed survival horror RPG from developer Francis Coulombe and publisher Devolver Digital, is available now on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and Nintendo Switch 2 for $9.99 — a shadow-drop console launch for one of last year’s most unsettling PC games.
Look Outside first launched on PC last year and built a devoted following the hard way: word of mouth about a horror game genuinely unlike anything else on Steam, where it sits at an Overwhelmingly Positive rating from thousands of players. Critics have called it one of the scariest games they have ever played, and “disturbing, grotesque, and uncomfortably wonderful” — praise that makes a Halloween-weekend console debut feel very deliberate.
The setup is elegantly horrible. The entire game takes place inside a single apartment building, where something outside has gone catastrophically wrong. Look outside — at whatever is happening beyond the windows — and you will regret it. Inside is barely safer: the neighbors you once knew have been twisted into monsters, and every door in the building might hide food, supplies, weapons, a rare friendly face, or something with far too many teeth.

You play as Sam, trapped in the building and forced into a brutal daily loop. Venture out into the halls to scavenge for food, supplies, and weapons. Fight the things your neighbors have become in turn-based RPG battles where every bullet and bandage counts. Then get back to your apartment alive to recover — cooking dinner, crafting tools, playing games to keep your sanity intact, and getting to know the few allies strange enough to still be on your side in this cursed place. Every expedition is a gamble: push one floor too far and the trip home becomes the scariest part.

That structure is why Look Outside has stuck with players long after the credits. It is a survival game about rationing and risk, an RPG about ordinary people in an impossible place, and a cosmic horror story that understands the scariest monster is the one that used to wave at you in the hallway. Its hand-drawn, grotesque art style makes every new creature feel like it crawled out of a cursed sketchbook — and the console versions put that nightmare on the TV or in your hands on Switch for the first time.
At $9.99, this is an easy recommendation for horror fans looking for their Halloween playthrough — especially RPG players who want tension that comes from hard choices, not just jump scares. It is out right now on PS4, PS5, Switch, and Switch 2. Just remember the only rule that matters: whatever you do, don’t look outside.
