The Trophy Whores wrap up E3 2019 by discussing The Last of Us 2 and Marvel’s Avengers, as well as a litany of games prepped for 2020.  The year.  Not perfect eyesight.  Although it feels like we say this every year, the list of games for the upcoming year towers impressively over the landscape.  Psychonauts 2.  Cyberpunk 2077.  Destroy All Humans.  Darkwatch 2.

Darkwatch 2.  Never lose hope!  Capcom, do you hear us?

Trophy Whores 393 – E3 2019: Sony Steps Away; Microsoft Steps Up

This week, the Trophy Whores dig into the press conferences from E3 2019.  Sony, of course, decided not to attend, which gave Microsoft the opportunity to hog the spotlight.  Nintendo, too, made gamers cheer with big announcements and elating surprises.  After the annual explosion of news, as only E3 can provide, the Trophy Whores have more to discuss than Games of Thrones fans who hate season eight.

Trophy Whores 392 – The Motown Mouth Motors in with the Carolina Cacophony

The Trophy Whores welcome two friends, who have long been absent from the show, to the latest round-table of rambling  — episode 392.  They control the chaos as best they can.  Last week Tricky evoked Donny, as he dropped Gears of War into the discussion of cross-platform play, and, apparently, with his ears burning, Donny brought the babble to back to the airwaves.  After hiding under a rock for much of the past few years, Donny returns to the show that he helped makes famous.  Sorta famous.  Mildly famous.

Famous-ish.

Darrell, of Remember the Loot fame, joins the show to scream into the mic, make fart noises, and insert crude words into the agenda.  He plays to his strengths.  What’s more, he comes ready to dote on Hideo Kojima and herald the coming of Kojima’s latest game, Death Stranding.  Unfortunately, we (still) don’t know what to expect from Kojima’s Death Stranding — but at least we have a release date.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Mortal Kombat 11, Death Stranding and Marvel’s Avengers.

Trophy Whores 390 – Splinter Cell and Twitter Crossover

There are certainly better ways to announce a game.  For instance, you could write the news on a piece of paper, tie that paper to a pigeon’s leg, and let that pigeon hop about the streets of New York City.  On second thought, people don’t pay attention to pigeons, other than to shoo them away, so perhaps it’s best, Ubisoft, if you give the news to a dog to distribute.  People love dogs.  Like Ghost on Game of Thrones.  Such a good fucking boy.

In other news, Alex cracks into the free PlayStation Plus offerings for May, and Tricky tries to stave off his pulsating desire to play The Last of Us Part 2.  Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, What Remains of Edith Finch, The Last of Us Part 2, Fortnite (and John Wick) and Splinter Cell.

With rumors flying fast and furiously, you can hardly avoid the chatter surrounding the imminent release of the PlayStation 5.  At the heart of the latest speculation is Sony’s attempt to patent technology that brings backward compatibility (of video game software) to the PS5.  Sony Computer Entertainment has put dev-kits in the hands of the largest publishers, so we know it’s only a matter of time before we start salivating over the confirmed specs for Sony’s newest video game console.

Trophy Whores 346 – Beyond Greece and Hillys

Kratos and Atreus have been busy.  The Ghost of Sparta has toppled sales charts as the usurper of Mount Olympus; however, with Atreus, his son, at his side, he’s setting forth on a new journey that can bring even more accolades to the turbulent, destructive and emotional story of the mortal who has slain the god of war Ares and killed Zeus, the king of the Gods.  And Hades.  And Poseidon.  And Apollo.  And pretty much every other major Greek god not named Aphrodite, Demeter or Dionysus.

We can hope for calmer waters during Kratos’ foray into Norse lands and legend, but let’s be honest, no matter what, Kratos always needs to leave the house armed to the teeth and ready to rumble.  Even if Kratos moved to Antarctica, we can imagine that there’s a fight waiting for him.  Given his acumen with tools of destruction, perhaps Jade and Pey’j should consider hiring him as protection.

Trophy Whores 345 – PETA Suffers Far Cry from Rationale

Tricky recommends God of War to anyone with opposable thumbs.  Can you hold a PlayStation controller?  Are you a DualShock jockey?  Tricky implores you to play God of War.  Like, now.  If Tricky is to be believed, then the new God of War is better than a plate of moussaka bought at the top of Mount Olympus.  Stephen recommends the game, too, so perhaps the chatter is legit.  Tricky’s opinion is worth a rusted half-eaten penny; Stephen’s recommendations carry the weight of an Avengers movie.  God of War seems like a safe bet.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, God of War, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Far Cry 5 and God of War.  I said, “God of War,” twice.  God of War.  That makes three.  PETA has spoken out against Far Cry 5 … for the treatment of fish.  Virtual fish.  That don’t have feelings.  Video games fish don’t have feelings.  But PETA doesn’t care, as they’re too busy going ape-shit over molehills.  PETA has an admirable goal, protecting animal rights and denouncing cruelty against animals — but some of the members often come across as nut-jobs.

Trophy Whores 321 – Humble Loots Boxes in Virtual Reality

This week, with Stephen filming the next episode of “Stephen, World’s Best Dad,” Alex and Tricky hold a two-man show that begs the question: Who let these two clowns have microphones?  We may never know the answer, so we have to blame someone at random.

After years of blaming Ubisoft for ruining Assassin’s Creed, due to overuse, Alex is happy to have a game set in ancient Egypt.  Assassin’s Creed Origins is set to release on October 27 — a.k.a. before you know it.  Tricky no doubt has his sights set on Origins, as well as many of the PlayStation VR games planned for release in early 2018.  Meanwhile, Alex, the leader in the Platinum trophy count, dips back into Resogun, a rocking side-scrolling shooter from the early days of PlayStation 4.

Resogun, much like Rocket League, always welcomes you back with loving arms wide open.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle officially announced + Game Play Shown

The bizarre crossover between everybody’s favorite Mushroom Kingdom and everybody’s favorite French bunny rabbit minion things was officially announced.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle will be released on August 29 for the Nintendo Switch. Take a look at the presentation in entirety below:

The Rabbids go to the Mushroom Kingdom, as well as some evil Rabbids (of course) and cause trouble. You play as Mario and company, as well as Rabbids dressed as Mario and company.

The concept is silly but the tactical gameplay shows promise, as you move your characters about a battlefield to vanquish your foes.

Stay tuned for more E3 2017 Coverage!

Beyond Good and Evil 2 is set prior to the events of the first game and is set to allow players to play with their friends in an “open sandbox world”. Hopefully Ubisoft gives us a little more information soon. Until then, just enjoy this gorgeous trailer:

Assassin’s Creed Origins Gets Reveal Trailer on Xbox One X

After many leaks and rumors, the first official trailer for Assasin’s Creed Origins was revealed. The trailer’s narrator introduced us to the beginning of the Assassins, as the brotherhood of killers was born. The playable character in the game was revealed as Bayek, who was introduced as an Egyptian sheriff.

Gameplay was then shown. Using an eagle, the trailer showed several environments before it returned to Bayek. He  rode into the first village Siwa, a village of stone and clay. Bayek used the eagle to mark enemies, and survey the area. After finding his target, Bayek did some classic Assassin’s Creed platforming, as he scaled a wall before taking out an enemy with his bow. Bayek, showing off his stealth tactics, used grass for cover.

Role-playing game elements were also shown, as Bayek found and equipped a bow with better stats. After dropping in on some enemies, Bayek took to melee combat.  It looked similar to old Assassin’s Creed combat, with Bayek dodging and deflecting incoming attacks.

Assassin’s Creed Origins will launch on October 27.

Stay tuned to Proven Gamer for future coverage of E3.

MontanaMania! The Cultists of Far Cry 5

On Friday, Ubisoft gave gamers the first real look at Far Cry 5. Players will assume the role of the new deputy in Hope County, Montana, with the goal of taking down a doomsday cult terrorizing the region. While we have much to learn about the game, the faces of villain Joseph and (some of) his comrades are in the trailer — as well as in previously released art.  If you are a World Wrestling Entertainment fan, then you may notice that certain Far Cry 5 characters share similarities with current and former wrestling superstars. Let’s take a closer look.

CM Punk:

The obvious place to start: the man in the middle of the image, Joseph. He is the leader of the cult. The slicked-back hair, mustache, and beard are shared by former WWE Champion CM Punk. Punk is no stranger to leadership. He was the leader of The New Nexus from 2010-2011, as well as the Straight Edge Society.

Daniel Bryan:

On the far bottom left of the photo, we see an individual with long hair and a disheveled beard. These features, along with his overall complexion, are shared by current SmackDown general manager Daniel Bryan. Despite retiring from active competition, the former champion remains one of the most popular voices in WWE.

Eric Rowan:

Erick Rowan, once a member of the Wyatt Family, is familiar with a cult mentality. Bald-headed and with a gnarly beard, Rowan is a vicious enforcer who has become a reliable mid-card talent in WWE. Can some of the same qualities be said for the man in the upper left of the key art? Only time will tell.

Sheamus:

The Celtic Warrior, better known as Sheamus, is a pure brawler. His style is all about moving forward and punishing his opponent. Since his return to WWE in 2015, fans have cheered, “You look stupid,” to lampoon his hairstyle and beard. If we look to the right of the Far Cry 5 image, we see a man with a similar look, who, if you ask me, looks equally stupid. Could his knife imply that he is the enforcer of the cult?

Over the years, we have seen many video games pull inspiration from other forms of entertainment. Sometimes the influence is seen on a large scale. Rockstar uses locations such as Los Angeles, Miami, and New York to build the cities in the Grand Theft Auto games. Supermassive Games brought in Brett Dalton and Hayden Panettiere to do voice-acting for the two main characters in Until Dawn. We may never know if Far Cry 5 took inspiration from these WWE superstars; however, these eerie similarities remind us that video game developers are willing to look elsewhere to create the worlds and characters that we love.

Trophy Whores 285 – Get the Towels Ready

It’s Alex’s first show back from a lengthy hiatus, and the Trophy Whores have already discussed — at length — the classic 8-bit Mega Man series.  Alex wouldn’t have it any other way — especially if everyone agrees that Mega Man 3 is the best game in the original series.  Tricky argues for Mega Man 4, and while he might have questionable taste in video games, his argument lends credence to the power of nostalgia.  You’ll smile when you hear to what lengths Tricky went to stay up (past his bedtime) and play Mega Man 4.

Lucia sits out this week, probably because he is disgusted with Tricky’s passion for Mega Man 4, as well as The Division, but even with four hosts, the Trophy Whores record for nearly three hours.  What can you do with three hours?  Listen to this episode, silly.  You can also take a long-ass nap, but we’re talking video games, and you want in on that action.  When a podcast starts with heavy amounts of the Blue Bomber and professional wrestling, then you know that things are going to run long.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Extra Life, Black Friday, The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Titanfall 2.

With the Game Awards approaching, the Trophy Whores try to predict the winners for two categories: Game of the Year and Most-Anticipated Game.  Per usual, every nominee deserves recognition and praise; however, among the Trophy Whores, Uncharted 4, Overwatch and Horizon take top billing.

Players can start warming up for Just Dance 2017 now with the free demo of “Sorry” from Justin Bieber, downloadable on Xbox Live, PlayStation Network and the Nintendo eShop. Additionally, the Just Dance Controller App also makes the game more accessible for players on new-gen consoles by allowing players to dance without additional accessories such as cameras.

For players who just can’t get enough dancing, Just Dance Unlimited, the dance-on-demand subscription streaming service, available for current-gen consoles owners and PC players, will offer a catalog of more than 200 songs at launch and access to exclusive tracks and new content that will be added through the year. The Standard version of Just Dance 2017 will include three months access to Just Dance Unlimited on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Wii U and Digital PC.
