The asymmetric co-op series that has ruined friendships for years just got a new chapter. Total Mayhem Games has announced that We Were Here Tomorrow is out now on Steam (PC), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with full crossplay — so no matter which platform you and your partner play on, you can scream at each other about puzzles in real time.
This is the sixth game in the We Were Here series, which began back in 2017 and has grown into one of co-op gaming’s great success stories, with more than 25 million players across the series. The formula has always been the same and it has always worked: two players take on distinct roles in separate areas, each with different tools and information, and the only way forward is to talk. Every game in the series is built around the walkie-talkie dynamic — describing what you see, listening to what your partner sees, and solving puzzles that neither of you could crack alone. It is co-op in the purest sense, and it turns every session into an improv exercise.
Tomorrow sends its two Explorers into the Norček Industries facility, set in an imagined 1980s retro-futuristic world. If the series’ history is any guide, expect a strange, stylish environment full of puzzles that punish assumptions and reward careful communication. The big change this time is the presentation: for the first time in the series, We Were Here Tomorrow features full voice acting, available in Japanese, Portuguese (Brazil), Simplified Chinese, and Spanish (LATAM).
The story itself comes with some serious pedigree. It was written by award-winning author Claire North, and the cast includes Sophie Okonedo, Connor Colquhoun (better known to many as Cdawg), Boris Hiestand, and Elena Saurel. That is a genuinely star-studded lineup for a $19.99 puzzle game — €19.99 if you are in Europe — and there is a 10 percent launch discount to sweeten the deal.
What makes this series special is how little it has needed to change. The first We Were Here was free, and it proved that the purest co-op thrill is simply needing another person. Every sequel has refined that idea rather than reinventing it, and Tomorrow looks like the biggest, most polished expression of it yet. If you have a friend, a headset, and an evening to spare, this is one of the best co-op experiences money can buy at any price, let alone twenty bucks.
