Ubisoft Is Talking About Assassin’s Creed’s Future THIS Thursday — and Black Flag Resynced’s Final Update Drops Tomorrow

It is a big week to be an Assassin’s Creed fan — and Ubisoft is not even pretending Thursday is about a surprise.

The publisher has set a Fall 2026 Update on the future of Assassin’s Creed for Thursday, October 29, fronted by head of content Jean Guesdon. The day before that, on Tuesday, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced gets its final major content update, the long-promised New Game Plus patch. One week, both halves of the franchise: where it has been, and where it is going.

Thursday: a progress report, on purpose

Guesdon announced the broadcast through the series’ official accounts with the hype deliberately dialed down: he will share another update on what is ahead for Assassin’s Creed, but “there won’t be any major reveals” — the point is to keep players informed on the franchise’s progress. Ubisoft has not yet said what time of day the update goes live.

That framing matters. This is not a showcase and nobody should tune in expecting a brand-new game announcement, a Hexe gameplay debut, or a release date. What a progress report can realistically deliver is status: how the confirmed projects are doing, whether the remake strategy Resynced just proved out is getting a follow-up, and how the franchise is being run now that it sits inside Vantage Studios, the Tencent-backed Ubisoft subsidiary that took over the series.

The host is a statement in himself. Guesdon was the creative director on the original Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and on Assassin’s Creed Origins, and earlier this year he stepped in to lead codename Hexe after Clint Hocking’s departure. The man giving the update on the franchise’s future is one of the people who built its past — and who is personally building one of its next chapters.

What is actually on the board

Two codenames are confirmed in development. Hexe is the darker, witch-trial-flavored entry Ubisoft announced back in 2022, billed from the start as a different kind of Assassin’s Creed game. Invictus is the multiplayer project. Beyond those, CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed multiple Assassin’s Creed titles are in the works across single-player and multiplayer — he just has not named them.

Two reported storylines are worth knowing going in, as long as they are labeled as reports and not facts. Hexe has been reported as tentatively targeting mid-2027, with a possible slip to the holidays. Invictus has been reported as drawing poor internal word-of-mouth, with its future questioned. Neither timeline nor cancellation has been confirmed by Ubisoft — which is exactly why Thursday’s progress report matters: it is the first scheduled chance for the company to put its own words on both projects. The Netflix live-action series, now filming in Rome, could also get a mention, though Ubisoft has not published an agenda.

Then there is the remake question. Ubisoft said before Resynced launched that more remakes were on the table if the Black Flag remake performed. It performed: 2 million copies on day one, more than 3.5 million in two weeks. If any remake is ever getting confirmed in a “no major reveals” progress report, Thursday is the shape it would take — a confirmation, not a trailer.

Tomorrow first: Black Flag Resynced’s final major update

Before Thursday’s talk about the future, Tuesday is about the present. Title Update 1.0.8 lands October 27 at 10:00 AM ET on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (4.5 GB on PS5, 15.5 GB on Xbox, 4.3 GB on PC), and Ubisoft is calling it the game’s final major content update, with quality-of-life patches to follow.

The headline is New Game Plus, the most-requested feature since the remake launched on July 9. Edward keeps his tools, upgrades, weapons, and trinkets; the Jackdaw keeps its upgrades, officer abilities, and pets; money, materials, outfits, hideout progress, Kenway’s fleet, Codex entries, and store purchases all carry over. What resets is the adventure itself: story progress, quests, map discovery, and forts, which need retaking — and your officers have to be recruited all over again. Each successive run raises the pressure with more elite soldiers and max-rank ships on patrol, stacking up to New Game+++++, and a new currency, Escudos, earned from challenges and previously opened chests, buys New Game Plus-exclusive outfits and items.

Alongside it comes Nightmare Mode, and Ubisoft’s own tagline — “No second chances. No mercy.” — undersells it slightly. Enemies hit for 1.8 times the damage, parry timing tightens, the white glint that used to warn you about incoming attacks is gone, ranged enemies shoot more often, and the one-shot kill protection is switched off. Stealth gets faster detection and sharper ears, enemy ships hit harder, underwater wildlife doubles, and oxygen drains faster. The difficulty is configurable by category, so you can take the combat nightmare and leave the stealth one. The update also hides new community chests around the map, restores takedown animations from the original 2013 game, and plants new treasure that Ubisoft says will be harder to find this time, because players solved the last batch too fast.

Why this week matters

Assassin’s Creed is Ubisoft’s flagship, and it has had a turbulent ride — leadership changes, a new parent studio structure, and a remake carrying the year’s momentum. A publisher does not schedule a “no major reveals” progress report unless it wants to reset expectations in public, on the record. Thursday will not give fans a new game. It should give them something rarer from Ubisoft lately: a straight answer about where its biggest franchise actually stands.

We will cover the Fall 2026 Update after it airs on Thursday. Until then, Edward’s second career starts tomorrow morning.
