Ubisoft Plans to Close RedLynx, the Trials Studio — 122 Jobs Hit Across Two Studios

Ubisoft’s brutal year of cuts is not over. The publisher has told its teams it plans to close RedLynx, the Finnish studio behind the Trials series, in a move that would put up to 52 jobs at risk — and at the same time, 70 positions have been cut at Ubisoft Singapore. Between the two studios, 122 jobs are on the line.

This is not a rumor. Ubisoft confirmed the plan in a statement first shared with GamesIndustry.biz on October 14, saying it had informed its teams of “a proposal to close RedLynx in Finland, subject to the local change negotiation process, which would affect up to 52 positions.” That wording matters: under Finnish law, the closure has to go through a change-negotiation process with employees first, so this is a proposal moving toward a shutdown — not a door already locked. Ubisoft added that Singapore’s cuts were made to align that studio with upcoming production needs, and stressed that Singapore remains an important part of its global production organization.

The End of a 26-Year Run for Trials

RedLynx was founded in Helsinki in August 2000, and for most of its 26 years it lived and breathed Trials — the physics-based motorcycle series that plays like a racing game and a puzzle-platformer at the same time. The series broke out with Trials HD on Xbox 360, one of the defining Xbox Live Arcade releases, and kept rolling through Trials Evolution, Trials Fusion, and Trials Rising.

Ubisoft bought the studio in 2011, but the major releases slowed down. Trials Rising, in 2019, was RedLynx’s last big console launch — seven years ago. Since then the team has mostly worked in support and on smaller projects, including the mobile game Gwen’s Getaway, which soft-launched in 2023 before Ubisoft cancelled it, and a Stadia port of The Division 2. The studio was hit once already a year ago, when Ubisoft cut dozens of roles there. According to reporting by VGC, RedLynx had no new project assigned when the closure decision was made, and the company judged that cutting staff alone would not be enough to keep the studio sustainable. If the studio had anything unannounced in the works, it was never revealed publicly — so nothing confirmed is being cancelled on paper, but the future of Trials itself is now wide open.

Singapore Takes a Hit After Black Flag Resynced

Ubisoft Singapore is not closing, but it is losing roughly a fifth of its roughly 350-person team. The studio opened in 2008 as a support team, built the naval combat that powered Assassin’s Creed’s seafaring, and eventually led development on Skull and Bones, which finally launched in 2024 after years of delays. Its most recent release, Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, arrived earlier this year. Both RedLynx and Singapore had recently been moved into Ubisoft’s Creative Network support division as part of the publisher’s wider restructuring.

Separately, Game File has reported that Ubisoft also plans to reduce its workforce in Germany by about 100 roles across its three studios there, reportedly through voluntary buyouts rather than direct layoffs. That figure is separate from the 122 jobs above and was not part of the RedLynx statement.

One More Studio Down in Ubisoft’s Restructure

RedLynx is the latest name on a long 2026 list. Ubisoft’s shift into a “creative houses” structure has already come with at least half a dozen cancelled games and the closures of its Winnipeg, Belgrade, and Halifax studios, plus layoffs at Massive Entertainment, Ubisoft Stockholm, and its Paris headquarters. It has been a rough stretch for studio closures across the industry in general.

Ubisoft says it is committed to supporting the affected teams through the process. For RedLynx, the Finnish negotiation process will decide how and when the closure becomes final. For everyone who grew up wiping out on Trials HD leaderboards, though, the direction is painfully clear: one of the most distinctive studios Ubisoft ever bought is about to reach the end of the track.
