Trophy Whores 341 – Jeff Goldblum is in the Game

Tricky is an April fool.  Come hear our opening segment in all its glory, as Tricky falls hook, line and sinker for an April Fool’s Day joke that pokes at wrestling fans.  Usually, it’s easy to see an April Fool’s Day joke from a mile away, but sometimes a nugget of fiction passes through our filters.

But we never let the most delicious topics pass through our news filters.  This week we discuss the latest offerings from PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection, as well as a price drop for the PlayStation VR and Jurassic World Evolution.  As Tricky describes it, you get to manage your own theme park full of carnivorous and gigantic dinosaurs.  When you run a dinosaur zoo, it never ends well.  Expect a torrent of trouble and headaches.  And so much worse.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds, Track Mania Turbo and PixelJunk Monsters 2.

Trophy Whores 340 – In the Shadow of God of War

By now, it’s surprising that we don’t have a LEGO game set in the Pixar universe.  Toy Story seems ripe for an adaptation, but if a LEGO Incredibles game includes some of Pixar’s most beloved characters, such as Rex, Sully and Heimlich, then we’re all in for a treat.  Sometimes, we could all go for a trip to Pizza Planet, followed by a few scoops of softball-sized ice cream.  Sprinkles are optional — but encouraged.

And while LEGO Incredibles hasn’t been officially announced, we’re learning more (and more) about God of War, which is so close that we can almost lick it like a Polaroid picture.  God of War focuses a lot of attention on Atreus, Kratos’ son, who seems to be the anchor for Kratos’ mortality, as well as the light that shows the endearing side of Kratos, who is best known for yelling at things and then murdering them.  If God of War is going to unlock its full potential, then we don’t need a new mythos or new monsters, we need to see deeper into Kratos’ soul and consciousness.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Bloodborne, The Legend Zelda: Breath of the Wild, A Way Out, Star Wars and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.  Shit.  We’ve got a full plate this week.  You have to finish the slices of pizza before you can eat ice cream.  And before you leave Pizza Planet, play the claw game.  I hear the prizes are particularly friendly — and green!

Trophy Whores 333 – The Game Awards Go Wild

We finally get to our Game Awards discussion, during which Tricky renews his rivalry with the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  Horizon Zero Dawn — thought nominated — did not win an award.  Does Guerrilla Games deserve recognition for their masterpiece?  Yes.  They do, forever.  And while Horizon didn’t win big at the Game Awards, if you look at the votes on the PlayStation Blog, then you know that there’s no shortage of love for Guerrilla’s best game to date.

Tricky, Alex and Yield join forces to produce the best — and wittiest — banter to keep you warm through the cold January nights.  Grab and bowl of chili, find your favorite blanket and snuggle up with the Platinum trophies of podcasting.  We’re like Swiss Miss hot chocolate for your ears!

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Inside, Assassin’s Creed Origins, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Trophy Whores 245 – Mercs With Platinums

While you were at the movies watching Deadpool, Tricky was braiding Barbie’s hair — as all good fathers do.  With plenty of years of experience under his belt, Tricky styles and braids doll hair like a pro.

Despite his fatherly duties, Tricky has seen Deadpool, and — obviously — he recommends that kids stay away.  If you take your kids to see Deadpool, then you are probably the same parent who will let your kids play Grand Theft Auto.  Beyond that, you most likely feed your children rusty nail sandwiches.

Join our team of Marvel foulmouthed mercenaries as we discuss Deadpool, Firewatch, Silent Hills, Assassin’s Creed and The Walking Dead.  As Alex prepares to play LEGO Marvel Superheroes, he hopes Deadpool shows up.  Granted, Deadpool would have to mind his manners.  The Merc with a Mouth isn’t kid-friendly.

NYCC 2015: LEGO Marvel’s Avengers Panel

The LEGO video games are always fun to play and LEGO Marvel’s Avengers is something that I have been looking forward to. There is always a sense of fun and lightheartedness in LEGO videogames while also telling a complete and fulfilling story. They really raised the bar with LEGO Marvel’s Superheroes, and it was promised that LEGO Marvel’s Avengers would be even bigger and better.

avengers

In addition to having content based on the two current Avengers movies, Lego Marvel’s Avengers will also have content based off of some of Marvel’s Phase Two movies. This includes Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and Iron Man 3. There will also be some content based off of Marvel TV shows such as Agent Carter.

In addition to the return of the open world Manhattan from LEGO Marvel’s Superheroes, LEGO Marvel’s Avengers will also have an open world Asgard, Shield HQ, Malibu, Washington D.C., and more. With such a big world to explore there is a huge roster of playable characters to fill it. Because the roster is constantly being updated there is no final count on characters, but it is somewhere above the 200 mark. This does mean that there will be some obscure characters, but the development team assured that they will all have some form of connection to the Avengers.

Hulk Buster

There will be some bonus stuff to expect from this game such as searching levels for the Collector. Inside jokes and Stan Lee cameos are also prevalent along with appearances from Iron Pig. While not officially announced, DLC is expected in the future. It would also appear that there will not be heroes of the web-slinging variety. While also being his normal cameo self, Stan Lee will also be a playable character with a Stan-Buster suit.

thor

I think this will be a fun game that will last for quite a while. There will plenty of areas and characters to keep any level of Avengers fan entertained. Whether or not it will be better than LEGO Marvel’s Superheroes will have to wait to be answered until January 26th.
