Trophy Whores 391 – One Console Under a Throbbing Harley Quinn

Tricky is going to lose this challenge.  Attain one hundred percent of Joe Danger trophies?  Sorry, Tricky; the money is on Alex.

This week, Tricky explains how he supports the idea of cross-platform play, for games like Fortnite and Rocket League, but he is also wary of the idea, which he thinks might have people clamoring for Super Smash Brothers on Xbox, Halo on PlayStation, and the Last of Us on Nintendo.  Essentially, Tricky foresees these events leading to a world without console exclusives.  Or at least a lot of bellyaching about why we can’t play Gears of War on our ‘Station.  Get some Donny up in here.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, What Remains of Edith Finch, World of Warships, Joe Danger, The Division 2 and Dauntless.

Insomniac Games earned a lot of recognition at the Game Awards, as Marvel’s Spider-Man earned many nominations for various awards.  Unfortunately for Insomniac, the house that Ratchet and Clank helped build, Marvel’s Spider-Man has earned much praise, but the game didn’t win an award during the Game Awards.  To be honest, while Insomniac appreciates recognition from their peers and fans, they’re probably elated to have the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive on any video game console.  That’s quite the honor.

Switch Version of Rocket League Getting Exclusive Battle Cars

Psyonix has announced that Nintendo themed Battle-Cars will be exclusive to the Switch version of the game.

The cars will be special unlocks and will be available when the game launches. At this time, two cars have been confirmed. The first is the Mario/Luigi NSR. Depending on the team color that is selected that will determine which version of the car the player will use. The second car is Samus’ Gunship. Depending on team color, a different version of the ship will be used. Both cars will also have special boosts, “Super Star” for the Mario/Luigi car, and “Wave Beam” for Samus.

Rocket League launches for Nintendo Switch this Holiday season. Check out the reveal trailer for the cars below:

Trophy Whores 307 – Lick it Like a Polaroid Picture

Maybe it’s an Ohio thing.  Yield might have misspoke, because Andre 3000 didn’t teach him to do that.  Or maybe it’s an Ohio thing.

We live in strange times.

This week we reveal the winner of the Trophy Whores E3 predictions battle royale.  While the ruling was appealed by at least two Trophy Whores, in the end, competition judge Sid heard arguments from both sides and picked a winner.  No one wants to look like a sore loser, or question the great Sid, so the win stands.

After taking Father’s Day off, we have a lot of ground to cover in the wake of E3 2017. Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Rocket League, Days Gone, Detroit: Become Human, Pillars of Eternity: Complete Edition, Uncharted and Horizon: Zero Dawn.

Much like Uncharted, which is set to continue beyond the Lost Legacy, Horizon: Zero Dawn has become a franchise, and Sony Interactive Entertainment wants to feed us all that we can handle.  Alex will be waiting at the trough.  Horizon has sold well and garnered fantastic reviews from critics, including Alex, so, this news comes as no shock.  While franchises can become stale and played out, we trust Sony to handle their intellectual properties much better than either Activision or Ubisoft.  If Sony plans — which we don’t anticipate — to release a new Horizon game every year, giving the series what we can call the “Call of Assassin’s Hero” treatment, the awkward love triangle between Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed and Guitar Hero, then we might want to get off of the Strider and search for greener pastures.

In a bit of big news, iHeartRadio streams episodes of Trophy Whores, which greatly expands the show’s footprint and reach. It’s a tremendous honor for the show to be part of iHeartRadio’s massive and respected community, and Proven Gamer have only the fans to thank for pushing the podcast to this point.  The Trophy Whores work hard to put out a quality weekly show, but they owe so much love to their listeners, who keep the show strong and growing.

Rocket League Wins MVP for Multiplayer

Rocket League is the best multiplayer game – either past or present.

I said it; you read it. I’m over here dropping rhymes like pouring pancake mix in a skillet.

Before I go any further, I understand that this debate is subjective. To me, Rocket League wins the MVP award for best multiplayer game. You might not agree. Chances are, if you survey 10 people, you’ll get at least two different answers. The chances are low that you’ll hear the same answer 10 times. If you survey 100 people, Family Feud style, I’m sure that you’ll hear, among others, Call of Duty, Super Smash Bros., and Mario Kart.

Rocket League, developed by the lovely folks at Psyonix, is a frenetic soccer game built around a simple concept: Sports games can be as fun as a bounce house in zero gravity. While many sports games attempt to ape the realism of their inspirations, Rocket League brings the thunder with over-the-top action that never leaves overdrive.

Rocket League owes much of its success, at least initially, to PlayStation Plus. Upon release, Rocket League joined the PlayStation Network’s Instant Game collection, which made it free to all PS Plus subscribers. With a firm grasp of simple economics, and the ability to tie a pair shoes, anyone can surmise that a free game is more accessible than a $20 game. If a free game turns out to be bad, I haven’t wasted any money to play it, so I am no worse off. I like to think practically.

While PS Plus helped promote Rocket League, Psyonix’s arcade soccer game – where the stars are cars – is amazingly fun, and Psyonix has poured gasoline on the starting flame to create a firestorm of hotly contested online and offline matches – including competitive seasons and championship tourneys. This summer, NBC Sports will air a Rocket League tournament. Have I mentioned that Rocket League is a big deal? Rocket League has also sponsored at least two World Wrestling Entertainment special events.

Psyonix has supported Rocket League with truckloads of downloadable content – much of which has been delivered in free updates. Along with new arenas, Aquadome is the greatest of the great, these free updates have included new games modes ranging from ice hockey to basketball. Instead of releasing a sequel, Psyonix has continued to support Rocket League with new content, and players have continued to maintain – and grow – a thriving online community. I can jump into a Rocket League online game in less than 10 seconds. How many games can say that after nearly two years? Many gamers migrate to new online communities once a sequel supersedes an older game; however, thanks to a ravenous and loyal community, as well as Psyonix’s dedication and hard work, Rocket League continues to thrive.

Whether you play online or offline, Rocket League is incredibly fun.  The online infrastructure is stable and reliable — even on a decent web connection.  In other words, unless you’re inactive, you rarely drop out of a game.  Local multiplayer has always been my preference, given the large amount of intolerable hyenas online; however, I enjoy playing online in Rocket League.

However you shake the snow globe, Rocket League scores high.  The action is fast, and given that standard games last five minutes, you can string together an impressive amount of games in one sitting.  It’s easy to jump in and play, and you can always find an online game if local multiplayer isn’t an option.  Even if Rocket League isn’t your first option for multiplayer chaos, it has to be in the conversation for top of the crop.  If I’m handing out an MVP award, Rocket League races ahead of the competition and scores the win.

Trophy Whores 286 – Octagonal Kiwami

This week, Tricky does his best to spit on the Engilsh language.  Tricky lectures people on the correct pronunciation of “mozzarella,” but as soon as he tries to say, “octagonal,” he stumbles through the word like a drunk rampaging through a Waffle House at two in the morning.

Episode 286, which brings us another week closer to our stupendous 300th show, marks the first time that the five illustrious and talented Trophy Whores record simultaneously.  Given our busy lifestyles, it’s quite an achievement — especially with a WWE special presentation, Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2016, on tap for the evening. The gang is all here, and we’re ready to dish on the latest news from the PlayStation Experience.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, LEGO Worlds, The Last of Us 2, Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, Rocket League, Yakuza 6, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series.

Telltale Games has shown that they are capable of doing excellent work with popular licensed comic and film properties, we expect nothing less from their version of Guardians of the Galaxy.  Though largely unknown until a few years ago, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy grabbed mainstream attention when James Gunn’s movie adaptation lit the silver screen on fire and earned Marvel Studios a spaceship full of cash.  With endearing oddball characters who look out for the safety of the universe, it’s hard not to root for the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Trophy Whores 276 – Frosty Reception

This week we talk about the Caped Crusader, Batman, and sporty rocket cars — neither of which tastes nearly as good as soup or mozzarella sticks.

News is scarce, but we shore up the agenda with two — TWO — thought-provoking questions of the week.  What’s more, Frosty, a man with a beard as tremendous as his podcasting skills, joins the show to complete a fearsome foursome.  As always, we’ve got all of the bad segues and slow transitions that you ever need.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Batman VR, Rocksteady Studios and Rocket League.  Psyonix’s Rocket League is a game that we can always come back to.  Psyonix has done a tremendous supporting the community with  engaging downloadable content far after the game’s release.  It’s hard to believe that Rocket League has surpassed one year on the market.  While others are focused on the newest Rocket League DLC, Tricky is looking forward and asking if Psyonix needs to start on a sequel.

We appreciate your support (and your ears)!
