Trophy Whores 386 – Dawn Of A New PlayStation On The Horizon

This week the Trophy Whores discuss rumors surrounding the price point of the — rumored — PlayStation 5, as well as whispers of a sequel to Horizon Zero Dawn.  Sony is making Horizon into a series; no one should be surprised.  If you are shocked, then promptly re-watch the end of Guerrilla Games’ 2017 masterpiece.  The end spells it out: s-e-q-u-e-l.

And, to no surprise, we continue to hear more (and more) about the PS5.  At this point, it can’t not exist.

Join the Trophy Whores, and special guest CJ, as they discuss, among other things, God of War, World of Warships, Psychonauts, Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order and Horizon Zero Dawn.

Trophy Whores 374 – Freakers Come out at Night

This April, we welcome Days Gone to PlayStation 4, and Yield is preparing by rigorously killing zombies in Guns, Gore and Cannolis.  The Freakers aren’t zombies — but they sure evoke the same sense of panic.  Freakers are terrifyingly relentless, so you need more than guns to survive in this nightmarish game of pulse-throttling action.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Days Gone, Fortnite and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Trophy Whores 343 – God of War Ushers in E3 News

Well, after a few short breaths to recover from PAX East, we’re discussing early news for E3 2018.  While it might seem obvious that Anthem and Fortnite have been pegged for the biggest annual electronic entertainment expo in the U.S., we take every opportunity possible to discuss Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 — the sequel to Tricky’s favorite video game.

Ubisoft is building hype for The Division 2, and while we’ve shared some cheap laughs at the expense of The Division, the original game, Tricky hasn’t let that damper his excitement for the sequel.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, the Mega Man X Legacy Collection, Donkey Kong and God of War.  It’s going to be a momentous week for PlayStation 4 owners, as we — finally — get God of War.  After brutalizing and humiliating the gods of Mt. Olympus, Kratos steps into Norse mythology, which sets him against new foes — some of who are, you know, kind of enormous.  And while Kratos has a checkered past, he’s once again a father, so we get to see a new dynamic of the storied antihero.  This time, maybe we can remove the “anti” label from his description.  If Atreus can anchor Kratos’ heart, then we might be able to see the heroic side of Kratos that has been buried deep beneath pain and torment.  We’ve had glimpses of hero Kratos, but they have been mere flickers of light in a dark, vengeful and bloody history.

Trophy Whores 340 – In the Shadow of God of War

By now, it’s surprising that we don’t have a LEGO game set in the Pixar universe.  Toy Story seems ripe for an adaptation, but if a LEGO Incredibles game includes some of Pixar’s most beloved characters, such as Rex, Sully and Heimlich, then we’re all in for a treat.  Sometimes, we could all go for a trip to Pizza Planet, followed by a few scoops of softball-sized ice cream.  Sprinkles are optional — but encouraged.

And while LEGO Incredibles hasn’t been officially announced, we’re learning more (and more) about God of War, which is so close that we can almost lick it like a Polaroid picture.  God of War focuses a lot of attention on Atreus, Kratos’ son, who seems to be the anchor for Kratos’ mortality, as well as the light that shows the endearing side of Kratos, who is best known for yelling at things and then murdering them.  If God of War is going to unlock its full potential, then we don’t need a new mythos or new monsters, we need to see deeper into Kratos’ soul and consciousness.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Bloodborne, The Legend Zelda: Breath of the Wild, A Way Out, Star Wars and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.  Shit.  We’ve got a full plate this week.  You have to finish the slices of pizza before you can eat ice cream.  And before you leave Pizza Planet, play the claw game.  I hear the prizes are particularly friendly — and green!

Trophy Whores 323 – Dont Buy Metal Gear Survive

This week the Trophy Whores disseminate more information surrounding the demise of Dead Space creator, Visceral Games.  Remember when gamers lauded Electronic Arts for publishing Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge?  Yeah, that was a long time ago.  I think we’re back to grumbling about EA’s wicked ways.  Can you believe the nerve of whoever suggesting putting co-op gameplay in Dead Space 3?

Konami have revealed the release date for Metal Gear Survive, which, on Tricky’s scale of a car running over your foot to Stay Puft relocating your Manhattan digs, is a plastic pitchfork up the rear.  He’s not excited — or sure that Survive should be considered a Metal Gear game.  We all have opinions, but Tricky takes a firm stance whenever Hideo Kojima’s stealth-based mega-hit brainchild is on the tip of anyone’s tongue.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Metal Gear Survive, Grand Theft Auto V, Spider-Man, Guacamelee! 2, Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2.

Trophy Whores 322 – Sony Music Switches it Up

The Trophy Whores have a business discussion, and Troy is nowhere to be found.  Someone get him on the phone — NOW!  He would put everyone to shame with his financial acumen!  We need someone who can shed some light, and make sense, of Sony Music jumping into the video game arena.

Sony Music’s game publishing label, Unties, will publish games for the PlayStation 4, as well as the PC and Nintendo Switch.  Sony Music publishing video games, when Sony has a games division, makes about as much sense as a hot dog vendor who doesn’t offer condiments for purchases.  Sony might have a bigger plan at play, but on the surface, logistically, this move doesn’t make sense.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Unties, Electronic Arts and Visceral Games.

Trophy Whores 238 – Solid Wars: Kojima Productions Awakens

Like so many nerds, Tricky is still reeling from Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.  He spares the details, because Alex and Yield haven’t seen it yet, and Tricky knows that they would send armies of spiders his way if he says too much; however, Tricky says it’s a good movie.  Donny doesn’t agree, but Donny’s movie taste is questionable — to say the least.

When it comes to video games, the guys have Jedi-level skills.  If you need confirmation, then ask the Remember the Loot crew.  For anyone with a short memory, as well as anyone who has repressed the memory, the Trophy Whores — Tricky and Yield — whooped the Remember the Loot team in a Rocket League grudge match.  Apparently, the guys’ Rocket League adversaries have started a new trophy competition and reward system, and they want a piece of the Trophy Whores.  Tricky, Donny, Yield and Alex will meet that challenge, and they will bring their blue, green and purple lightsabers to the fight.

These are not the opponents that you are looking for — unless you want another powerhouse beating!

Join our council of Jedi masters as we discuss, among other things, Rocket League, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, Naughty Dog, Rock Band 4 and Hideo Kojima.  Mace Windu approves of our show.  Apparently, he’s also in a Rock Band quartet with Kit Fisto, Plo Koon and Qui-Gon Jinn.  To their fans, they are known as Jedi Master Overdrive.

Trophy Whores 234 – The Gobbling, Squabbling Turkey Whores

In addition to being a boss at Metal Gear Solid, Donny tells terrible jokes about the Loch Ness Monster. Usually, Donny tickles funny bones, but he might want to take a break from Metal Gear Solid V to work on his jokes.  Donny isn’t Kevin Hart, or even Jim Carrey, but he can certainly do better than flop like sumo wrestler on a diving board.

Nate, our unofficial fifth Trophy Whore, returns to the show to counteract Donny’s craziness.  Of course, Nate brings his own brand of crazy, so maybe we are playing with fire and holding a lit stick of dynamite.  Regardless, we are happy to have him.  What’s more, Nate is an Assassin’s Creed fan, and he has nice things to say about the new Assassin’s Creed game, Syndicate.

Join our creed of assassins and shadows, as we discuss, among other things, Fallout 4, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Quantic Dream, Beyond: Two Souls and Street Fighter V.

The Trophy Whores are full of surprises, and on this show, Donny sings his favorite Spice Girls song — or a portion of the only Spice Girls’ song that he knows.  I smell a YouTube video!  If you think it, the Internet shall bring it.

Disney Infinity 3.0- Review

Have you ever wondered what it would be like if Iron Man could fight Storm Troopers alongside Han Solo? Or, what if Donald Duck teamed up with Darth Vader to somehow save the day? I know.. You’re probably expecting me to announce that Marvel has made its way into the world of Kingdom Hearts….not today my dear reader. Today, I am here to talk about the revamped and exciting experience that is Disney Infinity 3.0.

Disney 3.0 focuses around a completely new group to the Disney universes and characters. One of Disney’s more recent acquisitions was Star Wars. The company has wasted no time in putting the franchise to good use and delivering longtime fans new and exciting additions to the franchise. Disney 3.0 is comprised of three level sets and a Toy Box Takeover level. All three are purchasable separately. For those who have purchased their games digitally, and for those new to the series and looking to dive right in, the Saga Bundle is available (exclusively for PS4) and includes a pre-release Boba Fett figure, the base starter kit (Twilight of the Republic,) and the Rise Against the Empire playset .

boba

What we liked about Disney Infinity 3.0:

It’s Not Disney 1 or 2.0:

I don’t know about you, but I bought the first Infinity for the figures, the second one because it was Marvel, and I earned a total of two trophies between both. I found the original Infinity games to be lackluster and developed to please a younger generation. I don’t think Disney Interactive ever saw this appealing to the older generation. With Disney Infinity 3.0, I thoroughly enjoyed playing through the two playsets I received/purchased.

Infinity 3.0 boasts a replay value to it. Each mission is multi-faceted and, like past titles, offers crossover character gameplay. Levels are spot on and larger than previous indications which could, at times, appear linear and could feel playable once. This time around, side missions are included, and the rewards are stellar. Instead of slapping a new coat of paint on Infinity 2.0, the teams at Avalanche and Sumo digital have painstakingly re-worked and well taken care of this game. Fans of Star Wars and Disney Infinity alike will love this new version.

toybox

Community Creations:

You spend hours making levels, and you want the world to see them, rate them, and enjoy them. Okay, this is definitely a mode that will connect you with other members of the Disney Infinity community (which I have found to be a wonderful and very active) and play their levels. The cool thing about the Infinity community is the Infinity community. These levels are passionately crafted by teams and gamers alike! A very cool experience for those who are into crafting their own stuff. Also, a great way to continue your gameplay experience.

What We Didn’t Like About Disney Infinity 3.0:

Where Did My Money Go!?:

Disney Infinity is one of those titles that is really fun to play, there is no doubt in my mind about that. I truly enjoy both the nostalgia of many favorite (now) Disney characters and licenses. My absolute favorite characters are Sam Flynn and Quora from the Tron movies. The $30 dollars I shelled out on these characters was okay, but then… you cannot use them in your normal play sets and you have to buy the Toybox Takeover add-on. Don’t get me wrong, the concept is super cool, but the cost to the consumer could be an issue. Collectors won’t care, but the average family isn’t going to be able to afford $70 dollars for a starter set, $14 dollars a figure, and $40 a playset.

tron

The Verdict:

Disney Infinity 3.0 is fun for all ages. It has characters of Disney’s past, present, and future. This game will provide both returning and new players depth and customization found very rarely in modern gaming. If you’re a fan of Marvel, Star Wars, or Disney, make sure to check this one out, but beware the hefty price tag that comes with it.

Trophy Whores 225 – 197 Hours In 12 Days

Tricky likes Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and he likes it a lot.  As in, if Tricky could play The Phantom Pain or pick up a winning lottery ticket stuffed in a Spicy Chicken Sandwich (from Wendy’s), he would play The Phantom Pain.  What is wrong with him? Doesn’t he know that Wendy’s Spicy Chicken Sandwich is delicious?

We continue our “Game of the Year” debate, pitting Fallout 4 against Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.  I guess we have our frontrunners.  If Naughty Dog were releasing a new Crash Bandicoot, it would be a different story.  It would be a three-horse race, and the orange marsupial would be out in front.
