Here is a sentence nobody expected to write a few years ago: a HoYoverse game is coming to a Nintendo console. During its Petit Planet Pre-Launch Special Program on November 1, HoYoverse confirmed that its cozy galactic life sim Petit Planet will come to Nintendo Switch 2 in 2027 — the first time any HoYoverse title, a catalog that includes Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero, has been released on a Nintendo platform.
Everyone else gets to play much sooner. Petit Planet launches worldwide on December 4, 2026 for PC, iOS and Android as a free-to-download game. The Switch 2 version follows sometime in 2027 — HoYoverse gave a year, not a month, and shared no price, footage or Switch 2-specific features for the port yet, saying only that the team is hard at work on it and will share gameplay and more details as 2026 turns into 2027. A pre-launch live stream, “Petit Planet: Moving Preparation Special,” is set for December 3, the day before launch.
So what is Petit Planet? It is a slow-life simulation game with a cosmic twist: instead of settling into one village, you build a life on your own little planet, with neighboring planets, floating islands and a cast of fluffy companions filling out the galaxy around you. The Animal Crossing comparison is the one every outlet reached for, and HoYoverse is leaning into the cozy crowd hard — the launch is being celebrated with the first “Petit Planet: Creative Festival Celebrating the Four Seasons,” and coverage of the launch events points to more than 1,000 free items and special rewards waiting for players around release.
The pre-launch festivities have already started. The “Launch a Planet” event, which began November 1 on the official event website, invites players to design their own planet for a chance at surprise grand prizes — including, per the announcement coverage, a Nintendo Switch 2 console. Entries close November 15, 2026, so cozy-game fans who want in on that one should not sit on it.
Why does the Switch 2 version matter beyond one more port? Because it breaks a pattern. HoYoverse built one of the biggest businesses in games without Nintendo — its titles live on PlayStation, PC and mobile. A Switch 2 release in 2027 signals that Nintendo’s new hardware is now part of the plan for a publisher that historically did not need it, and a free-to-download cozy life sim is about as natural a fit for the Switch audience as a game can be. Nintendo, for its part, just had its own cozy-adjacent moment this weekend (Nintendo Just INVENTED Pikmin Day), and the Switch 2 calendar keeps filling in (New Nintendo Switch Games This Week).
For now, the dates to remember are December 4 for PC and mobile, December 3 for the pre-launch stream, November 15 for the Launch a Planet entry deadline, and a wide-open 2027 for the Switch 2 debut. When HoYoverse firms up that Switch 2 date, it will be a genuinely big deal — the day one of mobile and PC’s biggest publishers officially arrives on Nintendo.
