Surprise! Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition Just Shadow-Dropped on Nintendo Switch 2 — Plus the Full Survivor Trilogy Bundle

Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics just pulled off one of the cleanest shadow drops of the year — Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is out RIGHT NOW on Nintendo Switch 2.

No countdown, no weeks of teasing. The announcement and the launch are the same thing. If you’ve been waiting to play Lara Croft’s origin story conclusion on Nintendo hardware, you can buy it on the eShop tonight for $39.99, and there’s a 10% launch discount running through November 4 that knocks it down to about $36.

This is the full package, too. The Definitive Edition includes everything Aspyr and Crystal Dynamics put out for the 2018 game: all seven DLC challenge tombs, two-player online co-op, every side mission, and all the downloadable weapons, outfits, and skills. You’re not getting a stripped-down late port with paid DLC dangled over it — the complete experience, rebuilt for the Switch 2.

And if you’re the kind of player who likes to start at the beginning, today’s drop also includes the brand-new Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy collection. That’s all three games in the reboot saga — Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition, Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration, and Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition — bundled with each game’s online modes and every piece of DLC for $69.99, with the same 10% launch discount through November 4. That’s dozens of hours of exploration, puzzle-solving, and survival combat for one price, and it’s the first time Lara’s full origin story has been playable start to finish on a Nintendo platform.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider gameplay art — Lara exploring the jungle

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the 2018 finale of the Survivor Trilogy, the three-game arc that reinvented Lara Croft back in 2013. Across those three games the series pulled in more than 200 “Best of” awards and nominations, following a younger, rawer Lara as she goes from shipwreck survivor on Yamatai to the confident Tomb Raider racing to stop a Mayan apocalypse. In Shadow, the stakes are the biggest they’ve ever been: an ancient god’s power, the shadowy organization Trinity, and the legendary hidden Incan city of Paititi buried deep in the jungle. It’s the most stealth-heavy, tomb-focused entry of the three, and it’s where Lara finally becomes the character fans have known for decades.

The Switch 2 port is handled by Aspyr, who have quietly become the most reliable name in bringing big games to Nintendo’s new hardware. They already ported Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration to Switch 2 earlier this year, and their Switch 2 résumé also includes Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Middle-earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition. The Crystal Dynamics side of the house hardly needs an introduction — the San Mateo studio has driven the Tomb Raider franchise to more than 100 million units sold since 1996.

For trophy hunters and achievement hunters, one note: this is the Nintendo version, so there’s no PlayStation trophy list to chase here — the platinum chase stays with the PS4/PS5 and Xbox versions. But if you want the complete story portable and you missed the trilogy the first time around, this is the cheapest and easiest way it’s ever been offered.

The pricing math is simple. Shadow of the Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition is $39.99 on the Nintendo eShop, or about $36 with the launch discount through November 4. The Tomb Raider: Definitive Survivor Trilogy collection is $69.99, or about $63 with the discount. Both are available now.
