The Wasteland Just Got a Glow-Up — Crossout: Remastered Is Live With a Massive Visual Overhaul

One of free-to-play’s longest-running vehicular battlegrounds just got a whole new look. Gaijin Entertainment announced that Crossout: Remastered is available now, bringing a major artistic and technical overhaul to the post-apocalyptic online vehicle combat game. This isn’t a fresh coat of paint — it’s a ground-up rebuild of how the Wasteland looks, lights, and reacts. The headline is the lighting. Completely reworked global illumination, improved shadows, local reflections, and a new atmospheric scattering model mean the world responds to every light source naturally. Enemy machines emerge from the fog with their silhouettes catching the light. Headlights, fires, and explosions illuminate vehicles and nearby ruins. Shadows shift across the battlefield, while dust, haze, and atmospheric effects give familiar locations a completely new mood. A side-by-side comparison video shows just how dramatic the change is.

Crossout: Remastered — rebuilt terrain detail on the Wasteland roads

But the battlefield doesn’t just look different — it reacts to you now. Grass bends and gets crushed beneath wheels and tracks. Bushes sway in the wind and recoil when several tons of improvised armor tear through them. Rivers, swamps, and puddles ripple as armored cars charge across the shallows, as projectiles strike the surface, and as towering combat walkers stomp through the water. Improved waves, reflections, refraction, wakes, and splashes make water a living part of the battlefield instead of a flat texture. The ground itself has been rebuilt too. Higher-resolution textures, adaptive tessellation, and Height Blend technology give roads, rocks, mud, and other surfaces real depth. Cliffs and terrain materials were redesigned with extra detail, making the Wasteland rougher and more convincing — while preserving the routes and driving possibilities longtime players know by heart. That’s a key detail: this is still the Crossout you remember, just rendered like a much newer game. On the technical side, Crossout: Remastered adds support for DLSS 4.5 and FSR 3.1, so players can balance the upgraded visuals against performance however their rig — or console — handles it. If you’ve never taken the dive: Crossout is a free-to-play MMO vehicle combat game set in a post-apocalyptic world. The hook is total vehicle customization — you build and upgrade deadly armored machines from thousands of parts, choosing the shape, armor, weapons, support systems, and cosmetics, then take them into open PvP and PvE battles. The game lives and dies on player creativity, and a decade of wild player-built death machines proves the formula works. It’s available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and the Remastered update is live across the board today. Crossout comes from Gaijin Entertainment, the studio behind War Thunder, Enlisted, Star Conflict, and CRSED: F.O.A.D. — a team with serious mileage in online vehicle and combat games. PlayStation angle: the PS5 version is one of the platforms getting the full overhaul, and the game has always been a strong free-to-play option on PlayStation. If you bounced off it years ago because it looked rough around the edges, this is the version to come back to. And if you’ve never built a rolling fortress out of scrap and spite, the barrier to entry has never been lower — it’s free, it’s remastered, and the Wasteland is waiting.
