Motion Twin just released the last update Windblown will ever get in Early Access — and they gave it a version number that tells you everything about where this studio’s head is at: 0.9999999.
The update is out now on Steam, and it sets the stage for the full 1.0 launch of the co-op roguelite from the team behind Dead Cells. There’s no 1.0 date yet — Motion Twin’s own words on it are that 1.0 “will be a whole other beast” — but this is the final stop before they leave Early Access, capping a two-year run that started back in October 2024 and included ten major content updates.
So what’s in the last hurrah? A lot of polish on the stuff that makes Windblown Windblown.
Combat gets the headline changes. Enemies now have attack previews — a dynamic warning system that lets you actually read the chaos of a fight and react to it instead of getting deleted by something you never saw coming. A bunch of attack timings have been retuned so fights flow better, and the devs’ stated goal is blunt: when you get hit now, it’s on you. Co-op play and the Cataclysmic difficulty both got a full rebalance pass, so tuning should feel better whether you’re tearing through the Vortex with two friends or going it alone.
Then there are the new systems. Some enemies now carry forcefields that can only be broken with your Alterattack, forcing you to actually master the counter game instead of face-tanking everything. Got lost on a branching path? New fast-return teleporters let you dash into them, open the map, and pick where you want to teleport back to — less backtracking, more slicing. And the shop system has been completely revamped into six specific types: Gear, Gifts, Healing, Upgrade, Memonite, and a general store, so you can pick the shop your build actually needs instead of praying to the RNG gods.

The loot game grows too: 17 new Affixes, a revamped rarity system, new Mythic Gift variants, the return of Double Hits as an Encrypted Memory, and the new Chrono Fish Magifish. (Yes, fish are still ultimate abilities in this game. Never change, Motion Twin.) There are new islands to explore, expanded controller support — Steam Input is in, and the Switch Pro Controller now works properly through Steam, Nintendo button layout included — plus auto-combo accessibility options and a big performance pass. The team combed through the game with a fine-tooth comb: assets that were loaded into memory twice now load once, enemies are preloaded to cut stutters, and the Headbanger’s starfall phase alone reportedly gained around 15 FPS.
The update launches alongside the third annual La Motion Week, Motion Twin’s yearly Steam event — and Windblown is 30% off until November 5th, which makes this a pretty good week to jump in if you’ve been waiting for 1.0.
It’s worth remembering how much this game has changed since it launched into Early Access. Two years, ten major updates, new biomes, new bosses, an overhauled combat system — and a community that, as the team put it, broke everything enthusiastically. Their send-off message to players: “Two years ago, we opened the gates of the Vortex and asked you to break everything. You did, enthusiastically… This is the last stop before we leave Early Access.”
Windblown is Motion Twin’s follow-up to Dead Cells, the roguelite that hit more than 10 million players and became a modern genre staple. Where Dead Cells was a lightning-fast 2D action game, Windblown goes isometric 3D with up to three-player online co-op, faster-than-ever dashing, and runs through the floating islands of the Vortex fighting the Sentinels. It’s been one of the most-watched Early Access games on Steam, and everything about this final update suggests 1.0 is going to land with a bang.
Windblown is available now on Steam in Early Access, 30% off until November 5th. The 0.9999999 update is free for all owners. Full patch notes are on the Steam page.
