City builders on the go just got a serious upgrade. Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition, an optimised Nintendo Switch 2 version of Colossal Order’s award-winning city-building game, is available today from Paradox Interactive and developer Tantalus Media, priced at $49.
This is far more than a straight port of the original Switch release. The Expanded Edition increases the buildable area from the original 9-tile limit to 25 tiles, opening up room for genuinely sprawling cities, and adds a full map editor so you can create and customise your own landscapes before you place a single road.
The building tools themselves have been reworked. A new environmental controls panel lets you adjust time of day, rain, fog, and environmental colouring in real time. Precision placement, a distance indicator, and updated snapping options make construction more refined, and a quick selection tool speeds up swapping between essential tools and assets. In a first for the console versions, the Expanded Edition also supports keyboard and mouse input alongside traditional controller play.

Performance gets attention too, with a choice of graphics options: a Performance mode targeting 60 FPS with upscaling and adjusted quality settings, or a Quality mode targeting 30 FPS and prioritising visual fidelity.
The package is loaded with content. The Expanded Edition includes ten DLC expansions and content packs, headlined by the After Dark, Snowfall, Green Cities, and Sunset Harbor expansions, plus Map Pack 3, Country Road, Pearls from the East, the Deep Focus Radio and Carols, Candles & Candy stations, and Match Day.
There are two discounts worth knowing about. Everyone gets 10% off during the launch window, which runs until November 10, 2026. Players who already own Cities: Skylines on Nintendo Switch get a much bigger break — a 70% loyalty discount on the Expanded Edition, valid from today through April 28, 2027.

Cities: Skylines remains the benchmark modern city builder, and the Switch 2 hardware finally gives its console version room to breathe: bigger cities, better tools, and the performance options to choose how you want to play. If your Switch copy has been gathering dust, the loyalty pricing makes today a very good day to rebuild.
Cities: Skylines – Expanded Edition is available now on Nintendo Switch 2 for $49, with a 10% launch discount until November 10 and a 70% loyalty discount for owners of the original Switch version until April 28, 2027.
