Ride Into the Snowy Mountains — The Legend of Khiimori’s Mongolian Expanse Update Is LIVE

The Legend of Khiimori shaman character

Mindscape and Aesir Interactive have released The Legend of Khiimori‘s biggest update yet. The Mongolian Expanse is available now in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store, adding two new regions — the Snowy Mountains and the Desert — along with new wildlife, a new horse breed, and more than 60 new horse skills. It is the kind of update that gives players a reason to saddle up and ride back into 13th-century Mongolia.

The update arrives as The Legend of Khiimori continues its Early Access journey, and it expands the game in exactly the ways its players have been asking for: more world to explore, more to discover, and more ways to shape the bond between rider and horse.

What Is The Legend of Khiimori?

The Legend of Khiimori is an open-world horse-riding adventure set in 13th-century Mongolia. Players take on the role of a legendary courier rider, traveling across the steppe, building a bond with their horse, and forging a legacy that will outlast them. The game is built around the horse: breeding bloodlines, training mounts, and the relationship between rider and animal are at the center of everything.

The world is a living one. Players ride across vast grasslands, through forests and over mountains, delivering messages, meeting the people of the steppe, and surviving in a land that is as beautiful as it is unforgiving. The game is currently in Early Access on Steam and the Epic Games Store, with console versions on the way — players can already wishlist it on the Xbox and PlayStation stores.

What Is New in The Mongolian Expanse

The headline additions are the two new regions. The Snowy Mountains bring a harsh, frozen landscape to explore, with towering peaks and treacherous passes, while the Desert offers a very different kind of challenge — vast, open sands where water and shade are worth more than gold. Together, they expand the open world significantly, giving players new places to ride, new things to find, and new reasons to keep exploring.

Those regions come with new places to stop along the way. The update adds new waystations and Yam stations — the relay stations of the Mongol Empire’s legendary postal system — giving riders new destinations and new reasons to cross the map. The Yam stations are a nice touch of history, too: they were the backbone of the largest empire the world had ever seen, and they fit the game’s setting perfectly.

There is new wildlife to meet as well. Wild boars, gobi bears, and camels roaming in herds now populate the world, making the steppe feel more alive and more dangerous. The animals are not just decoration — they are part of the world you ride through, and they make every journey feel a little less predictable.

For horse lovers, the update adds the Marwari, the sixth horse breed in the game, with its own look and traits. It also adds more than 60 new horse skills, including rare and Legendary ones, giving players more ways to train and specialize their mounts. The update also includes a host of gameplay improvements and fixes, with the full patch notes available on Steam.

Why The Mongolian Expanse Matters

For an Early Access game, an update like this is a statement of intent. Two new regions, new wildlife, a new breed, and more than 60 new skills is a lot of content, and it shows that Aesir Interactive is serious about building The Legend of Khiimori into something special. For players who have been riding since Early Access began, it is a reason to return. For new players, it is a reason to start now — and the game is currently 30% off on Steam through November 12, which makes this a good week to jump in.

The horse is what sets Khiimori apart from other open-world games. Plenty of games let you ride a horse; very few make the horse the heart of the experience. The breeding, the training, the skills, and the bond between rider and mount are what make The Legend of Khiimori feel different, and The Mongolian Expanse doubles down on all of it.

The steppe is waiting, and the mountains are calling. Saddle up.
