Path of Exile Covens of Umbra is the original game’s next league, and it launches November 13, 2026 on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. Grinding Gear Games revealed it during the ExileCon 2026 keynote — the same show that detailed Path of Exile 2 Is Finally Going 1.0 on December 11 — and the original Path of Exile is getting far more than a fresh league mechanic: the whole endgame is being rebuilt around it.

The league itself centers on ancient witch covens. You collect Fates by defeating witches and disrupting their rituals, then invoke those Fates during boss fights to raise both the boss’s power and your item drop rate. Matching and combining certain Fates can unlock special rewards like exceptional support gems, invoking duplicate Fates multiplies your rewards, and you can bind yourself to the Wickerman, offering it trophies from defeated bosses in exchange for passive bonuses.
Path of Exile Covens of Umbra Rebuilds the Atlas
The endgame overhaul is the bigger story. In Path of Exile Covens of Umbra, the Atlas gets distinct regions tied to specific league mechanics — completing maps in a region strengthens that mechanic. Scarabs are gone, replaced by Threads of Creation, which support ten primary mechanics: Abyss, Blight, Legion, Breach, Incursion, Betrayal, Bestiary, Expedition, Ultimatum and Ritual.
Players can unlock up to eight Threads and three map devices, letting you guarantee up to three different primary mechanics on a map. Grinding Gear is also leaning into overlap: league mechanics will collide with each other more randomly, which should create the kind of chaotic combinations the community loves to clip.

Less Loot, Better Loot
The loot changes may matter most day to day. Covens of Umbra cuts the flood of worthless magic and rare items raining from every pack. Drops will be fewer, but magic and rare items will drop with visible tiers — tier 5 is the maximum — and tier 5 magic items can drop fractured. Drop rate bonuses will now improve the quality of what falls instead of just the quantity.
It is a packed November for ARPG fans: Covens of Umbra lands November 13, less than a month before the sequel’s full launch. If fantasy action is your thing right now, check out Soulframe Is Finally Open to Everyone as well. Reporting via MMORPG.com’s ExileCon 2026 recap.
