Nintendo Switch Coming March 3rd

The Nintendo Switch Presentation has just wrapped up and people now have a ton of new information to sink their teeth into. The Switch will launch on March 3, 2017 with a suggested retail price of $299.99. Pre-Orders are now available online from retailers. Check out all of the other information for the hybrid console below:

What’s In the Box?

In terms of controllers and accessories, the Switch will come with the following:

  • Nintendo Switch Console
  • Switch Dock
  • Joy-Con Grip
  • 2 Joy-Con Controllers. People will be able to purchase a red and blue Joy-Con Controller or 2 black Joy-Con Controllers.
  • Joy-Con wrist straps,
  • HDMI Cable
  • AC Adapter

Accessories

The following accessories are available separately for purchase:

  • Switch Pro Controller-$69.99
  • Joy-Con Controllers- 2 for $79.99 or $49.99 for 1
  • Joy-Con Charging Grip: $29.99

Playstyles:

The Nintendo Switch will feature 3 main playstyles.

1)TV Mode:

This will be the traditional gaming experience. Players can either use the Joy-Con Controllers attached to Joy-Con Grip or the Switch Pro Controller.

2)Tabletop Mode:  Using the included kickstand, players can put the switch on any surface and use the Joy-Cons for either single-player or multiplayer.

3)Handheld Mode:

By sliding the Joy-Cons onto either side of the Switch Console, players will get the handheld experience of the console.

Launch Titles:

These are the launch titles have been announced for the Switch.

Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild: The next installment in the Legend of Zelda series will be a launch title on the Switch.

1-2 Switch: 1-2 Switch is a multiplayer focused game that will focus on the various uses of the Joy-Cons. These games will be played not looking at tv screen, but by looking into the eyes of your opponent. These games will revolve around face to face interaction.  Some of the games shown during the presentation included old-west style duels and sword fighting.

Snipperclips(March Release): Snipper clips is an upcoming puzzle game for the Switch. Players will cut paper characters to solve a wide variety of puzzles. Up to 4 players can compete competitively or cooperatively.

Super Bomberman R: This Bomberman title will include enhanced graphics, new boss battles and a single player campaign. It will also include mutiplayer.

The following 1st party games are in development for the Nintendo Switch:

Super Mario Odyssey(Holiday 2017):   Super Mario Odyssey will be the first sandbox adventure since Mario Sunshine and Mario 64. The game will take Mario on a journey around the world to unknown places and environments.  The trailer showed Mario traveling by airship to jungle, city, desert worlds just to name a few.

Splatoon 2 (Summer 2017): Splatoon 2 will introduce new game modes and mechanics. Players will now be able to shoot ink from each hand and propel themselves forward. New stages, weapons, and special weapons will be coming as well. Players will be able to use the Joy-Con controllers, the Pro Controller, or in Handheld Mode. Players will also be able to use the gyro controls to spread their ink. Splatoon 2 will include local and online multiplayer.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe(April 28th): The Switch port of Mario Kart 8 will include a new, revamped battle mode as well as new characters. The new characters will include Inkling Boy and Girl from Splatoon, King Boo, Dry Bones, and Bowser Jr.

Arms(Spring 2017): Arms is fighting game, where players use the Joy-Cons as their gloves. The twist on this game is that the “gloves” are extendable. When a player punches, their arms extend forward. It combines elements of both boxing and shooting games into an intense 1-on-1 duel. The Joy-Cons will be used for combat, movement, and defense. Players will be able to play against the AI, local multiplayer, and online multiplayer.

Along with their first party support, Nintendo has announced that more than 80 games are in development in development by third party developers. here are some of the games that were shown during the presentation.

Fifa (EA, 2017 Release Date): EA’s soccer franchise will be customized to use all of the new features that the Switch has to offer.

Skyrim(Bethesda): The critically acclaimed Bethesda title will be coming to Nintendo Switch.

Specs/Online Services

Nintendo announced some of the specs, and online capabilities of the Switch during the presentation as well:

One of the major things shown during the Switch were the features of the Joy-Con Controllers. Each controller can be used on its own as a full-fledged controller. It will support gyro and accelerometer features and also have rumble vibration support.

Depending on the game being played the Switch battery will last 2.5-6 hours by game. Players will be able to charge the console using included AC adapter and portable batteries. On their website, Nintendo gave an example game of Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild lasting roughly 3 hours on a single charge.

Local multiplayer will be available on the Switch. Up to 8 Switches can be connected at once with local multiplayer.

The Switch will also feature online multiplayer gaming. Nintendo has announced online interactions can be done through smart devices. Through phones and tablets, players can invite friends to play, chat, and set up play-dates. Users will get a free trial period to try out the online features before it becomes a paid service in the Fall of 2017. No price was given for the online features.

The Switch will also feature a monthly game download. Players will gain access to a NES or SNES game for a month through this paid feature.

It was also announced the Switch will not use region locking for its games. It will be a region free console.
