Trophy Whores 327 – Plus PlayStation Predictions

For the benefits of PlayStation Plus, the Trophy Whores willingly hand over that cold hard cash.  It’s hard to argue that PlayStation Plus isn’t a good deal.  You can try, but you might have more luck convincing Count Chocula that he shouldn’t be a year-round cereal.  He loves the spotlight.  Sure, Sony Computer Entertainment bumped the annual price to $60, but considering the free games, discounts and cloud saves, PlayStation Plus remains a fantastic way to fuel your gaming habit!

The PlayStation Experience, or PSX to fans of brevity, looms on the horizon, and the Trophy Whores make their predictions for the show.  They try to be as serious as possible, but you know that the guys have to toss out a few “off the wall” predictions.  Strangely, no one predicts that Thanos (from Avengers: Infinity War) is really the older, jaded and miserable brother of McDonald’s’ character Grimace, who reminds everyone of a fat purple Christmas tree.  Happy holidays!

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, PlayStation Plus (and Games with Gold), Fortnite, Assassin’s Creed Origins and Mega Man.

In a bit of big news, iHeartRadio streams episodes of Trophy Whores, which greatly expands the show’s footprint and reach. It’s a tremendous honor for the show to be part of iHeartRadio’s massive and respected community, and Proven Gamer have only the fans to thank for pushing the podcast to this point.  The Trophy Whores work hard to put out a quality weekly show, but they owe so much love to their listeners, who keep the show strong and growing.

Trophy Whores 321 – Humble Loots Boxes in Virtual Reality

This week, with Stephen filming the next episode of “Stephen, World’s Best Dad,” Alex and Tricky hold a two-man show that begs the question: Who let these two clowns have microphones?  We may never know the answer, so we have to blame someone at random.

After years of blaming Ubisoft for ruining Assassin’s Creed, due to overuse, Alex is happy to have a game set in ancient Egypt.  Assassin’s Creed Origins is set to release on October 27 — a.k.a. before you know it.  Tricky no doubt has his sights set on Origins, as well as many of the PlayStation VR games planned for release in early 2018.  Meanwhile, Alex, the leader in the Platinum trophy count, dips back into Resogun, a rocking side-scrolling shooter from the early days of PlayStation 4.

Resogun, much like Rocket League, always welcomes you back with loving arms wide open.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Resogun, GameStop, Assassin’s Creed Origins and PlayStation VR.

Trophy Whores 320 – Phantom Assassins of October

It’s finally October, which means that you’re about to binge on horror movies, beautiful foliage and PlayStation Plus freebies.  If you’re a real Looney Tune, then you’re downing large cups of pumpkin-spice, candy corn milkshakes. I may have invented — just now — the most disgusting drink served hot or cold — aside from gin.  Have you had gin?  It’s absolutely disgusting.  I’d rather drink some Frankenstein combo of pickle juice and peanut oil.

Even if you aren’t a fan of horror movies, you can still enjoy the festivities of fall.  Extra Life is one month away, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is available to download as part of October’s PlayStation Plus free offerings.  To boot, Ubisoft is letting loose Assassin’s Creed: Origins on October 27, so you can soon take an inexpensive trip to ancient Egypt.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Infamous Second Son, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Rocksteady Studios.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins to Double as an Interactive Museum

This is not an onion article. This is not a joke.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins will receive a free update post-release adding a mode dubbed “Discovery Tour”. Releasing sometime in 2018, Discovery Tour will take assets from the game and place them throughout the open world. Players can visit places like Alexandria, Memphis, the Nile delta, the Giza plateau, the Faiyum Oasis, and the Great Sand Seas to see NPCs going about their daily routine. In place of combat is a series of guided tours meant to teach players about the games setting and historical significance all arranged by actual historians.

When asked about how this mode came about Creative Director Jean Guesdon had this to say:

“From the beginning, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has always explored pivotal moments in history, from the Third Crusade to the Italian Renaissance, and this year Ancient Egypt. It’s a dream come true for us to offer Discovery Tour by Assassin’s Creed: Ancient Egypt, an educational mode built specifically for people to learn more about the incredible history of Ancient Egypt through the interactive experience made possible via a video game.”

Assassin’s Creed has always been a bright spot in games that teeter toward educational without being too in your face about it. Now those of us that may have wanted a bit more context with all our bloody, brutal combat can have just that.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins is set to release on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on October 27th.

Trophy Whores 312 – Brolin Warps into Deadpool 2

He’s back!  Who’s back?  I guess you’ll have to listen to find out.

We don’t often lean on teasers, but when we do, they’re hot enough to scorch the flame on a Magmar’s tail.

This week, Alex continues his quest to earn the Platinum trophy in the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.  He’s well on his way, considering that he has two of the three Platinums.  Thanks to PlayStation Plus, we’ve got new Instant Game Collection titles for August, and one of the games opens an Assassin’s Creed discussion — during which Alex isn’t completely pessimistic.  According to Alex, if you set a game in ancient Egypt, you’re already one step closer to success.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Crash Bandicoot: Warped, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice and Deadpool 2 — the movie!

Josh Brolin, who has starred in movies like The Goonies, Mimic and No Country for Old Men, has been cast as Nathan Summers in the upcoming Deadpool sequel.  We’re sure that Ryan Reynolds is pleased, as no one in his or her right mind can object to Brolin playing Scott and Jean’s gruff and tough son.

Assassin’s Creed Origins Gets Reveal Trailer on Xbox One X

After many leaks and rumors, the first official trailer for Assasin’s Creed Origins was revealed. The trailer’s narrator introduced us to the beginning of the Assassins, as the brotherhood of killers was born. The playable character in the game was revealed as Bayek, who was introduced as an Egyptian sheriff.

Gameplay was then shown. Using an eagle, the trailer showed several environments before it returned to Bayek. He  rode into the first village Siwa, a village of stone and clay. Bayek used the eagle to mark enemies, and survey the area. After finding his target, Bayek did some classic Assassin’s Creed platforming, as he scaled a wall before taking out an enemy with his bow. Bayek, showing off his stealth tactics, used grass for cover.

Role-playing game elements were also shown, as Bayek found and equipped a bow with better stats. After dropping in on some enemies, Bayek took to melee combat.  It looked similar to old Assassin’s Creed combat, with Bayek dodging and deflecting incoming attacks.

Assassin’s Creed Origins will launch on October 27.

Stay tuned to Proven Gamer for future coverage of E3.
