Trophy Whores 331 – Gods of War Rocket Up the Download Charts

Alex and Roberto help ring in the new year by looking back at 2017 and forward to 2018.  Like two killer whales at Sea World, they’re itching to frolic in the deep blue ocean of video games that promise an exciting 2018.

Better yet, we’re getting at least one more God of War game before the series pays homage to “The Fonz” and goes airborne over a particularly dangerous aquatic predator.  It’s a shark.  Sony Santa Monica is dangerously close to jumping the shark, and Alex proposes that maybe Kratos should ride off into the sunset after his latest adventure.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Batman: The Telltale Series, Inside, Rocket League and God of War.

In a bit of big news, iHeartRadio streams episodes of Trophy Whores, which greatly expands the show’s footprint and reach. It’s a tremendous honor for the show to be part of iHeartRadio’s massive and respected community, and Proven Gamer have only the fans to thank for pushing the podcast to this point.  The Trophy Whores work hard to put out a quality weekly show, but they owe so much love to their listeners, who keep the show strong and growing.

Trophy Whores 287 – Honor Among Trophy Whores

If you have listened to last episode, and, of course you have, then you know that Tricky is beelining toward his first tramp stamp.  I don’t know how we got to this point, but the pot at the end of this rainbow teems with equal parts hilarity and terror.  For his first tramp stamp, he needs a small DualShock 4 — to save space for a DualShock 5.  Tricky doesn’t have ink on his lower back yet, but you can help by contributing to the Proven Gamer Extra Life fundraising campaign.  You have until the end of the year, which is closing quickly.

We have updated Extra Life donation numbers, as well as news from around the game industry.  It’s the end of the year, so we hope that you’ve got your holiday gift lists sorted.  Throughout the month, Sony has PlayStation Nework sales for all of the gamers who played nice this year.  Truth be told, even if you have been naughty, you can still take advantage of the PSN deals.  While you are perusing the fine offerings available on the PSN, be sure to check out The Last Guardian, which, despite its tumultous path to release, has received a warm reception from critics.  You would be naughty to pass up the next tale in the ICO universe.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, WWE 2K17, Ark: Survival Evolved, Extra Life, The Last of Us Part II, Watchdogs 2, and Batman: The Telltale Series.

We devote a large chunk of the show to the Trophy Whores Bill of Rights, for which we have painstakingly created an online rough draft.  In video games terms, we can call it the “alpha” version.  We have taken it this far, but we need your input to help finalize (and pass) our Bill of Rights.

We appreciate your support (and your ears)!

Batman-The Telltale Series: City of Light Out December 13th

Telltale Games has announced the release date for BATMAN – The Telltale Series Episode 5: ‘City of Light’.

The final of five episodes in the season, Episode 5: ‘City of Light’ will be available digitally worldwide starting Tuesday December 13th on PC from the Telltale Online Store, Steam, and other digital distribution services, on the Xbox Games Store for Xbox One and Xbox 360, and on the PlayStation Network for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3. The episode will be available the same day for compatible iOS devices via the App Store, and for compatible Android-based devices via Google Play.

Special note for the finale: Players will begin this episode in very different places depending on where they chose to go in the third act of Episode 4.

Additionally, Episode 1: ‘Realm of Shadows’ is now FREE to download for PC via Steam. Telltale has also released a performance patch for BATMAN – The Telltale Series on Steam, updating the game to support a wider range of PC configurations and address some of the concerns we heard when the game launched earlier this year. This patch contains significant performance improvements as well as adding numerous performance settings to allow users to customize the game for their systems.

In Episode 5, the leader of the Children of Arkham prepares to execute the final act of a plan to destroy the Wayne family name, and the people closest to you are in their path of vengeance. Can Batman’s ultimate secret be kept – his very identity – when it is causing chaos and death in Gotham? The fate of the Wayne family and of the city itself rests on your choices. What will you do? How far will you go? Which mask will you wear?

The series is also available to purchase at retailers in North America and Europe as a special Season Pass Disc, which includes the first of five episodes in the season, and grants access to the subsequent four episodes as they become available for download via online updates.

Rendered to look like a living, breathing comic book, Telltale’s vision of Batman features an award-winning cast of talent, including Troy Baker in the role of Bruce Wayne, Travis Willingham as Harvey Dent, Erin Yvette as Vicki Vale, Enn Reitel as Alfred Pennyworth, Murphy Guyer as Lieutenant James Gordon, Richard McGonagle as Carmine Falcone, Jason Spisak as Oswald Cobblepot, Dave Fennoy as Lucius Fox, Anthony Ingruber as John Doe, and Laura Bailey as Selina Kyle.

With the Batman removed from the streets of Gotham City, Harvey Dent’s forces and the Children of Arkham are at war, with innocent citizens caught in the crossfire. Trophy Whores 273 – Segues Destroyed by Soup

Previously on Trophy Whores, Donny said goodbye to Proven Gamer, Lucia joined the show as the fourth official host, and Tricky introduced the headlock-loving Smart Marks, Jeremy and Matt.

You know, that really doesn’t work when you can’t wow the audience with flashy, colorful video clips and a fancy voice-over guy with a sultry voice.  Well, you don’t know unless you try.  That doesn’t give you the green light to do something stupid.  I can tell you that melted wax has no business in the garbage disposal.

This week, Yield returns to wreak awesome, and we discuss news from PAX West 2016.  PAX shows are always good for news, as developers and publishers shovel information into our mouths like we’re pigs at a feeding trough.  And we enjoy video games, so we’ll always be ready to open wide.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Shovel Knight, PlayStation Plus, The Walking Dead, Overwatch, and Batman: The Telltale Series.

Alex has a special shout-out.  On September 16, at Gallery K on Barret Avenue in Louisville, his friend Avalon is holding an art gallery for the first part of the survivor modeling project, This is MY Body, which features sexual assault survivors.  Through this event, these brave women hope to reclaim their bodies and raise sexual assault awareness by speaking out against a pervasive problem in our country.  Admission is free.  Magazine copies featuring the models and photographs will be sold at the show, and the profits will be donated to the Center for Women and Families.  The gallery will be open from 5 pm to 10 pm.  It will be a fantastic event, and if possible, you should go.

Trophy Whores 269 – Tricky’s Division From Reality

We’ve often teased Tricky about his passion for The Division.  We’re not saying that it’s a terrible game, but if Tricky champions it with an unmatched fervor, then we’re going to take our shots.  Unfortunately, for Tricky, our wicked squad of ardent trophy hunters has grown by two people for episode 269.

Even if you change your name, Antisocial Gamer, you will always be NMReign.  As with that bespectacled, stripe-shirted scamp, Waldo, we see past your tricks and lies.  Reign, you can brandish a fancy new name, but it doesn’t erase your villainous past.  We know your game: You hunt Trophy Whores.

We’re relying on the Ionvein to keep us safe.  With a name like that, Lucia has to be some sort of superhero.  How else could he fly in and steal our listeners’ hearts?  Unless … he’s a witch!  Is he?  No.  No, he can’t be.  Witches play games on the Xbox One.

This week the Trophy Whores test their luck, as they welcome to the show — for the second week in a row — the infamous, dangerous and ingenious Troy.  He’s like Freddy Krueger — except he attacks you while you podcast.  Podcast dreamworld is a dangerous place, with hordes of Xbox owners and the Trophy Whores killer mucking about.  There’s trouble to be found if you travel down the wrong alleys.  Donny ventured down the alleys of Black Velvetopia, and he bought Psychonauts for the PlayStation 4!  Donny bemoans the prevalence of remasters, remakes and ports.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Batman: The Telltale Series, Indigo Prophecy, No Man’s Sky and Suicide Squad.  Critics have largely panned Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad, but it made an impressive, record-breaking amount of money in its opening weekend.  If nothing else, Suicide Squad proves that people don’t listen to critics.  Suicide Squad might be polarizing, but if you’re a fan of the villainous team and its components, then go see the movie and decide for yourself.
