Trophy Whores 389 – The Nightmares of Days Gone and the Dreams of E3

On another exciting and excellent episode of Trophy Whores, the guys share early E3 news and mull the list of confirmed (and rumored) games set to appear at the Colossus of Rhodes of video game shows … in the States.  The Mount Rushmore of American video game-a-paloozas.  Yes, we’re already talking about the Electronic Entertainment Expo, and we can’t wait to see what Sony has in … store.  Whoops.

Tricky and Yield have been playing Sony Computer Entertainment’s latest AAA game, Days Gone, and they go head to head in a discussion that includes no bickering or arguing whatsoever.  Exciting!!  Does Days Gone live up to the hype?  Does a grilled cheese sandwich taste good at midnight?  We’ll answer one of these questions on episode 389 of the Trophy Whores show!

Microsoft wants to expand its Xbox Live service beyond their proprietary home console.  And computer.  Xbox Live has been on PCs for a dog’s age.  Microsoft wants you to access to your Xbox Live account on PCs, phones, toasters and milk cartons — although some of that technology is light years away.  For now, or at least shortly, we will have to settle for phones and rival video game consoles.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, the spread of Xbox Live — to infinity but not beyond — and Sony Computer Entertainment’s planned absence from the 2019 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

It’s time for the annual Trophy Whores tradition: Electronic Entertainment Expo predictions!  The Trophy Whores have their predictions, and they’re ready to share, so get amped for an all out street fight — that takes place over the World Wide Web.

World Wide Web.  1998 was a cool year.  Remember AOL?  And that sign-in for Instant Messenger?  Yeah.  Some rules.  But no mercy.  Winner take nothing.

This year, it’s Tricky versus Yield versus Alex versus Stephen.  Par for the course, Sid determines the winner.

Fallout 76 Announced – More Info Coming June 10th

Bethesda had people waiting several hours in their Twitch stream as they teased an announcement. At one point, while I was in there, over 177,000 people were eagerly awaiting what would eventually become an announcement of a new installment in the Fallout franchise, Fallout 76.

Fallout 76 appears to take place a little further in the timeline as the music of the time is more modern. While the vault is called Vault 76, it could also be possible that the era we will be exploring could be more 70’s inspired. This is very exciting news, as Fallout New Vegas is a beloved installment which improved upon Fallout 3. Fallout 76 has an excellent foundation in Fallout 4 to build off of and promises to be exciting in its own right.  Bethesda will show more of the game at their E3 conference on June 10th.

Trophy Whores 343 – God of War Ushers in E3 News

Well, after a few short breaths to recover from PAX East, we’re discussing early news for E3 2018.  While it might seem obvious that Anthem and Fortnite have been pegged for the biggest annual electronic entertainment expo in the U.S., we take every opportunity possible to discuss Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us Part 2 — the sequel to Tricky’s favorite video game.

Ubisoft is building hype for The Division 2, and while we’ve shared some cheap laughs at the expense of The Division, the original game, Tricky hasn’t let that damper his excitement for the sequel.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, the Mega Man X Legacy Collection, Donkey Kong and God of War.  It’s going to be a momentous week for PlayStation 4 owners, as we — finally — get God of War.  After brutalizing and humiliating the gods of Mt. Olympus, Kratos steps into Norse mythology, which sets him against new foes — some of who are, you know, kind of enormous.  And while Kratos has a checkered past, he’s once again a father, so we get to see a new dynamic of the storied antihero.  This time, maybe we can remove the “anti” label from his description.  If Atreus can anchor Kratos’ heart, then we might be able to see the heroic side of Kratos that has been buried deep beneath pain and torment.  We’ve had glimpses of hero Kratos, but they have been mere flickers of light in a dark, vengeful and bloody history.

Trophy Whores 306 – One-Hour PlayStation Sizzle Reel

During their E3 2017 showcase, Sony Interactive Entertainment seemed to have traded long-winded monologues for a nearly constant stream of game videos.  Truth be told, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Shawn Layden didn’t have much to say during the showcase.  People seem split in their opinions.  Alex liked the press conference, while Mark and Yield were disappointed.

Aside from Monster Hunter and Shadow of the Colossus, Sony didn’t have many surprises for their viewers and fans; however, if you watched the showcase, then you saw a litany of great and exciting games.  If you own a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation VR, then E3 2017 has given you reason to smile.  If nothing else, it has been nice to see Supermassive Games, developer of the highly acclaimed game Until Dawn, so entwined with PlayStation’s immediate future.

You might want to buckle up.  Over the course of the next couple hours, we’re going to cover everything from Sony’s E3 showcase, as well as the hour-long pre-show. Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Life is Strange, Days Gone, God of War, Inpatient and Spider-Man.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle officially announced + Game Play Shown

The bizarre crossover between everybody’s favorite Mushroom Kingdom and everybody’s favorite French bunny rabbit minion things was officially announced.

Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle will be released on August 29 for the Nintendo Switch. Take a look at the presentation in entirety below:

The Rabbids go to the Mushroom Kingdom, as well as some evil Rabbids (of course) and cause trouble. You play as Mario and company, as well as Rabbids dressed as Mario and company.

The concept is silly but the tactical gameplay shows promise, as you move your characters about a battlefield to vanquish your foes.

Anthem Gameplay Closes Microsoft Conference

After a getting a short teaser trailer at Electronic Arts’ show last night, Anthem, from BioWare, was shown on running on Xbox One X.

Anthem will be an open-world game. The gameplay trailer started with the lead character in a town square. She is given the task of retrieving some workers. Anthem puts players in the hand of freelancers who explore and protect humanity from the threats outside of the wall.

After getting the mission, the trailer introduced an array of exosuits known as javelins. These will be customizable suits. The two characters dove off the wall and used a jetpack to explore the world outside of the wall. Each suit will have different features. The shown, the Ranger and Colossus featured a balanced and tank style suit.

The first look at combat revealed third-person gunplay and abilities that appeared to be on a cool-down timer. The exo-suits will allow players to equip abilities that will allow them to approach combat in different ways. Along with beasts, enemies called Scars also attacked the characters. They appeared to be humanoid, firing projectiles.

Anthem also appears to have drop-in gameplay, as two new players joined the party mid-mission before being confronted by a huge electric storm. The trailer ended with characters going into the storm.

Anthem will be a multiplatform release in 2018.
