Trophy Whores 323 – Dont Buy Metal Gear Survive

This week the Trophy Whores disseminate more information surrounding the demise of Dead Space creator, Visceral Games.  Remember when gamers lauded Electronic Arts for publishing Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge?  Yeah, that was a long time ago.  I think we’re back to grumbling about EA’s wicked ways.  Can you believe the nerve of whoever suggesting putting co-op gameplay in Dead Space 3?

Konami have revealed the release date for Metal Gear Survive, which, on Tricky’s scale of a car running over your foot to Stay Puft relocating your Manhattan digs, is a plastic pitchfork up the rear.  He’s not excited — or sure that Survive should be considered a Metal Gear game.  We all have opinions, but Tricky takes a firm stance whenever Hideo Kojima’s stealth-based mega-hit brainchild is on the tip of anyone’s tongue.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Metal Gear Survive, Grand Theft Auto V, Spider-Man, Guacamelee! 2, Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us 2.

Trophy Whores 290 – Great Shuhei in the Sky

Tragedy has hit the Proven Gamer PlayStation family.  We aren’t seven days into 2017, and Mark has lost his (second) PlayStation 4.  On the bright side, it seems that Mark was able to save his Final Fantasy XV progress, and he has an excuse to buy a PlayStation 4 Pro, which will pair nicely with his 4K television. All is not lost.  Mark, sadly, has become accustomed to, as well all have, video game consoles dying.  He will persevere.

This week, the Trophy Whores — all five of them — discuss a plethora of PS4 games set to release in 2017.  The list of games is topped by heavy hitters like Horizon: Zero Dawn, Kingdom Hearts 3, God of War, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Gran Turismo Sport; however, even if you aren’t looking forward to the aforementioned, there is still plenty reason to be excited about the year in PlayStation.  Per usual, there will be no shortage of games to play on your PlayStation console.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Ace Combat 7, Days Gone, Friday the 13th: The Game, Mass Effect: Andromeda, New Hot Shots Golf, and Persona 5.  Regardless of your preferences and tastes, the new year brings a tidal wave of AAA games and a list of release dates that should make you wet your pants in anticipation.  Get ready, because 2017 is going to be a banner year.

Trophy Whores 275 – Chewbacca Onesie

Best title ever?  Best title ever.  So there’s that.  Lucia wears a Chewbacca onesie like no one’s business.  When in San Diego … .

Candice — yes, that Candice — returns to Trophy Whores and shares her thoughts on PlayStation 4 Pro, as well as Death Stranding and Metal Gear Survive.  Tricky tries to defend Survive, but Lucia and Candice have none of it.  Candice evokes the phrase “dumpster fire,” which never means good things.  Wherever there’s dumpster fire, it’s probably being fueled by copies of The Division and Tricky’s list of Platinum trophies.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Death Stranding, Metal Gear Survive, No Man’s Sky and the The Last Guardian.  After a lengthy development cycle, The Last Guardian has been delayed, and on some level, the game feels like a carrot on a string.  We know it’s there, and we can see it, but we can never reach out and grab it.  At least Sony still lists it for release in 2016.  The Last Guardian will be available in December — unless Sony delays it again.

Konami Reveals Extensive Gameplay Trailer at TGS 2016

At the Tokyo Game Show 2016, Konami revealed an extensive 15 minute gameplay demo of their upcoming title Metal Gear Survive, a cooperative Metal Gear title that pits players against….. zombies?  The game has received quite the backlash since it’s announcement in mid August, but despite recent events with Hideo Kojima’s departure, it appears Konami seeks to prove that this new installment in the Metal Gear series is much more than a “cash grab”.

The demo, all being powered by the Fox Engine found in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, features a cooperative mission where four Motherbase soldiers must tread through a zombie infested map completing objectives in hopes to return home after being transported to an alternate world.  In typical zombie game fashion, players are tasked with collecting materials to build tools and weapons to aid them in their survival.  Like previous titles, you can choose to use items to help you sneak around the enemy, such as lures, or opt to take out the enemies one by one using stealth or the variety of melee and ranged weapons at your disposal.

Trophy Whores 272 – Pour One Out for Donny

This week we pay our respects to Donny, who has decided to leave Trophy Whores and Proven Gamer.  Lucia, who has excelled as a guest host in recent months, has joined the crew as the fourth Trophy Whore.  Donny will continue his shenanigans elsewhere with Whatever Talk, and we will update you when we know where his show will land.

Donny, we thank you for the countless hours and great effort that you devoted to Trophy Whores.  Your fellow hosts and our listeners fans appreciate your hard work and your uncanny ability to make up words.

Yield sits out this week, but we welcome Jeremy and Matt, the Smart Marks, to the show.  Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, PlayStation 4 Slim, PlayStation Plus and Metal Gear Survive.

Alex has a special shout-out.  On September 16, at Gallery K on Barret Avenue in Louisville, his friend Avalon is holding an art gallery for the survivor modeling project, This is MY Body, which features sexual assault survivors.  Through this event, these brave women hope to reclaim their bodies and raise sexual assault awareness by speaking out against a pervasive problem in our country.  Admission is free.  Magazine copies featuring the models and photographs will be sold at the show, and the profits will be donated to the Center for Women and Families.  The gallery will be open from 4:45 pm to 10 pm.  It will be a fantastic event, and if possible, you should go.
