EA Play Showcase Closes with 30 Minute of Battlefront 2

The finale of EA’s E3 2017 showcase was a Star Wars extravaganza with 30 minutes of Star Wars Battlefront 2 gameplay. Things got started with the story mode. This mode will bridge the gap between Return of the Jedi and Force Awakens. It will introduce new characters to the Star Wars universe, such as the main playable character Iden Versio, an officer in the Empire army, as well as characters already known in the Star Wars world.

The premier of multiplayer was shown off as well. Multiplayer will include, more maps, content, modes, characters, and vehicles. Content from all eras will be playable. Battle Points will be collected during a match to allow players to play as Heroes, Villains, and other unlock other perks. Classes will return to multiplayer as well. The trailer put players into a battle from the prequels before blasting off into space. It showed off the Droid Separatists battling the Republic, before showing gameplay of Darth Maul. Shots of Rey, Yoda, Kylo Ren, and other heroes were revealed as well.

A video clip of Jon Boyega was shown as well, announcing that Finn and Captain Phasma from The Force Awakens would be coming as part of the free content post launch. All modes, characters, maps, and all other content will be free to players when it is announced.

Finally, a full forty-player match, Assault on Theed was shown. Assault on Theed featured a battle between the Droid Separatists and Republic. The droids are engaged in an invasion of Theed in a three-phase battle. The first stage showed the droids trying to move a tank forward to a point. The Republic is tasked with the goal of destroying the transport tank.  The live gameplay showed off some of the new classes and vehicles that will be found in the prequel era battles. Assault will be the basic class for Battlefront 2. The Heavy Class was also shown using a mobile shield for cover. The Officer class will give players the ability to buff their teammates. Classes will have three special abilities that will be on cooldowns. Along with air vehicles, ground vehicles, such as tanks and small walkers were shown as well. Air vehicles will be accessed through the new battle point system. The points can be spent in-game to access, heroes, equipment, and vehicles.

The live gameplay showed off some of the new classes and vehicles that will be found in the prequel era battles. Assault will be the basic class for Battlefront 2. Specialists can plant traps such as tripwires along with providing long range covering fire.  Classes will have three special abilities that will be on cooldowns. Along with air vehicles, ground vehicles, such as tanks and small walkers were shown as well. Air vehicles will be accessed through the new Battle Point system. The points can be spent in-game to access, special characters, heroes, equipment, and vehicles. Battle Points can also be used to bring in reinforcements.

Phase 2 of the battle moved combat from outside, into tight, indoor, closed quarter combat as the droid tank breached the Republic defenses. Gameplay of Darth Maul was shown during this phase. Maul moved around the field quickly, using his spin attack, force choke, and dash spin. Boba Fett was also revealed using a concussion rocket, jetpack, and rocket barage ability. Rey gameplay showed off a mind trick ability, allowing her to confuse opponents. The Droids ended winning, so stage three wasn’t shown.
