Gloomhaven’s Successor Just Hit 1.0 — Frosthaven Is OUT NOW on PC (30% Off at Launch)

The frozen north is calling, and this time the outpost is fully open for business. Frosthaven, the digital adaptation of the acclaimed board game and the successor to Gloomhaven, has officially launched into 1.0 on PC.

Snapshot Games and Arc Games announced the full launch on October 15, 2026, with a new trailer revealed at the Galaxies Showcase. After a period in Early Access, Frosthaven is now complete on PC, with its full campaign, its full roster, and a set of onboarding and co-op improvements meant to welcome both board-game veterans and players who have never touched a hex in their lives.

The launch comes with a friendly price cut as well. Frosthaven is $39.99, with 30% off on Steam for the launch period, making this the best time to jump in if you have been waiting for 1.0.

What is Frosthaven?

Frosthaven is a tactical, turn-based RPG set in a harsh northern frontier. You lead a band of mercenaries trying to keep a struggling outpost alive against monsters, rival factions, and the brutal weather itself. It is based on the Frosthaven board game by Isaac Childres, the follow-up to the massively popular Gloomhaven, and it carries over the same DNA: deep tactical combat, meaningful choices, and a campaign that changes based on what you do.

In combat, positioning matters as much as raw damage. You plan your moves, manage your cards and abilities, and try to outthink enemies that do not fight fair. Outside combat, you make decisions about the outpost, your party, and the world around you. Every expedition feeds back into the settlement, and every settlement upgrade opens new options for the next run.

It is a game about survival, but it is also a game about building something. The outpost is not just a menu. It is a place you invest in, defend, and grow over the course of a long campaign. Watching it go from a freezing, half-abandoned settlement to a thriving stronghold is one of the most satisfying arcs in the game.

17 heroes, one full campaign

The 1.0 launch includes the complete campaign and a roster of 17 playable heroes. That variety is a big part of Frosthaven’s appeal. Each hero plays differently, with its own abilities, strengths, and style, and finding a party composition that clicks is half the fun.

Do you want a frontline tank who soaks damage while everyone else lines up the perfect shot? A support character who keeps the party alive through the worst fights? A damage dealer who can delete a priority target if you set them up right? Frosthaven has options for all of those, and the real depth comes from combining them. A party that works together will handle encounters that would crush a group of lone wolves.

The campaign itself is long and branching, with choices that matter and consequences that stick around. This is not a game you finish in a weekend. It is a game you settle into, the way you settle into a good book or a long-running tabletop campaign, and it rewards patience and planning.

New to Frosthaven? Road to Frosthaven helps

One of the biggest additions for 1.0 is Road to Frosthaven, an onboarding path designed for newcomers. Frosthaven has a lot of systems, and jumping in cold can be overwhelming, even if you love tactical games. Road to Frosthaven eases you in, teaching the core ideas step by step instead of dumping everything on you at once.

That matters because Frosthaven’s depth is both its strength and its barrier. The game wants you to understand positioning, initiative, card play, and outpost management, and it wants you to understand how they connect. A good onboarding path makes that learning curve feel like a climb rather than a wall, and it means more players will stick around long enough to see why fans love this game.

If you played Gloomhaven, you will feel at home quickly. If you did not, Road to Frosthaven is your way in, and it is a thoughtful addition for a 1.0 launch that is trying to reach beyond the existing board-game audience.

Better co-op and House Rules

Frosthaven is also a co-op game at heart, and 1.0 brings enhanced co-op play. Playing with friends changes the feel completely. You argue about strategy, you celebrate perfect turns, you blame each other for terrible ones, and you share the triumph of keeping the outpost alive through another brutal season. It is a tabletop experience translated to PC, and co-op is where that translation shines brightest.

The launch also adds House Rules, a set of options that let you tailor the experience to your group. Want a tougher challenge? Want a more relaxed run? Want to adjust how punishing failure feels? House Rules give you the tools to shape the game around how you actually like to play, rather than forcing everyone into the same difficulty box. That flexibility is a big win for a game with such a wide range of players, from hardcore tacticians to friends who just want a cozy campaign night.

Price, bundles, and where to play

Frosthaven is available now on PC via Steam for $39.99, with 30% off during the launch period. An Epic Games Store version is also part of the launch lineup. The 1.0 release includes the full campaign and all 17 heroes, so there is no need to wait for more content to get the complete experience.

There are also bundles for players who want more. A bundle with Sunderfolk is available for fans of co-op tactical games, and a Complete Edition adds the original soundtrack and art book for players who want to dig deeper into the world. If you are on the fence, the base game at launch discount is the simplest way in.

The timing is good, too. A long, meaty tactical campaign is exactly the kind of game you want as the weather turns colder. Frosthaven’s frozen north might be brutal, but there is something perfect about playing it with a warm drink, a full party, and a long evening ahead of you.

Why this launch matters

Gloomhaven set a high bar. It proved that a deep, tactical board game could work beautifully as a digital game, and it built a passionate community around it. Frosthaven had to follow that up, and 1.0 is the moment where it gets to stand on its own. With a complete campaign, a large hero roster, better onboarding, better co-op, and flexible House Rules, this is Frosthaven as it was meant to be played.

If you love tactical combat, if you love building a settlement and a party over a long campaign, or if you have been waiting for the right time to try the successor to Gloomhaven, that time is now. The outpost needs you, the north is not getting any warmer, and the campaign is waiting.
