Astro Bot Is Moving Into Rayman’s World — Rayman Legends Retold Gives PS5 Players a FREE Astro Costume on December 3

Rayman Legends Retold co-op gameplay with Globox, Barbara and Rayman in a forest realm

The platformer pairing nobody expected is now official in both directions. Ubisoft has revealed that the PlayStation 5 version of Rayman Legends Retold will include an exclusive Astro Bot costume for Rayman — free, built into the game, and unlocked the first time you visit Victor Velour, the game’s resident tailor, at his costume shop. The remake launches December 3 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC, but the little robot’s outfit is a PS5-only perk.

The costume brings the crossover full circle. Rayman made a cameo appearance in 2024’s Astro Bot, showing up as a Special Bot in the Winter Wonder level — and Sony wanted to return the favour. The outfit is once again a collaboration between Ubisoft Milan, Ubisoft Montpellier, and Team Asobi, and the design team had to solve a fun problem: Astro Bot’s sleek, futuristic look — glossy white surfaces, reflective metallic parts, glowing blue details — had to survive being wrapped around Rayman’s silhouette, big nose, oversized shoes, floating hands and all, without losing what makes either character recognisable.

Retold itself is much more than the original game in a new coat of paint. Ubisoft calls it a bold reimagining of the 2013 platformer: Rayman, Globox, Barbara, Grand Minimus, and Murphy return to the Glade of Dreams after a shadowy villain spreads corruption through the realms, in a version with a new storyline, updated visuals, and fully voiced cinematics. Iconic levels return alongside a mysterious sixth realm, four new musical stages (twelve music levels in total), dragon-riding sections, and the Cave of Trials challenge mode.

The competitive Kung Foot mode is back too, with revised controls, additional power-ups, and customisable rules, and the whole adventure supports solo play or up to four-player couch co-op. There is even a second crossover hiding in the wardrobe: a “baguette” outfit paying homage to Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. New accessibility options include Fairy Blessing, Golden Heart, Autoshoot, High Contrast Mode, an Arachnophobia Mode, enhanced subtitles, and full control remapping.

The value proposition is doing some heavy lifting as well. Every copy of Rayman Legends Retold includes Rayman Origins: Enhanced Edition, the reworked version of the 2011 game that restarted the series’ 2D era. Pre-purchasing any edition adds the Hoodlum Havoc Pack — costumes for Rayman and Globox inspired by Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc (Steam pre-purchases separately list Metal Mania and Hoodlum outfits) — and the Deluxe Edition adds a Retro Pack with four costumes and an in-game art gallery. The standard edition is priced at $39.99. The game was previously set for October 1 before moving to December 3.

Platformer fans are eating well this winter — between Retold on December 3, After Nearly a Decade, Witchbrook Finally Has a Release Date — and It’s Coming to PS5 Too, and multiplayer chaos like The Friendship-Destroyer Is BACK — Dokapon Kingdom: Connect 2 Announced for Switch, Switch 2 and Steam, Launching Worldwide Summer 2027, there is no shortage of ways to ruin a perfectly good evening with friends. Rayman Legends Retold launches December 3 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Ubisoft Store — with one very small robot waiting in the PS5 tailor’s shop.
