Season 6 Just Changed Everything — Rematch’s New Contracts Turn Every Match Into a Career

Sloclap just hit the reset button on what progress means in Rematch. Season 6 of the football multiplayer hit is live today, and the headline change is a brand-new progression system that replaces the old Player Level with Contracts — a career-style ladder that makes every match move your profile forward. The old Player Level never did much beyond gating Ranked play. Contracts change that completely. There are 10 of them to unlock, running from Baller all the way up to Icon. Each contract has its own levels, and you level up by earning XP simply by playing matches. To climb to the next contract you need to hit two milestones: reach the level cap of your current contract, and upgrade your badges to meet its requirements. Every level pays out Blocks, and the higher the contract, the more you earn per level. Reaching Icon isn’t the end either — there’s no level cap, so you can keep earning levels and Blocks indefinitely.

Ranked players should pay attention to one detail: you’ll need the Amateur Contract to queue for Ranked matches. Anyone who hit Player Level 5 or higher before today starts Season 6 with Amateur already unlocked. And if you’ve already put in the hours, they still count — Legacy Rewards recognize your pre-Season-6 progress with caps and profile items that reflect your journey so far. The second big system is Badges, and this is where Rematch’s philosophy really shows. Goals are only part of the story in a Sloclap football match. Badges recognize the actions that define your game — creating chances for teammates, shutting down attacks, beating opponents on the ball, protecting the goal, or delivering when everything is on the line. They unlock through match actions and level up as you repeat them. You choose which badges to display on your Player Card, and they show up during celebrations and post-match Victory Moods. Fill every contract slot with badges from the same category and you earn an archetype: three Goalkeeper badges make you a Rampart, three 1-star Attack badges earn Striker, three 2-star badges from one category grant Vanguard. The names improve as badges level up, and completing a contract turns its archetype name into a Player Title for your card. You can review your whole Contract Career in the Profile menu, and the record is public — anyone visiting your profile can see it.

Season 6 frames all of this through a “nature or nurture” theme: is greatness something you’re born with, or something you earn? The two sides get their own cosmetic collections. The talented Vanguards get a polished, elite aesthetic, while the resolute Glitches get a bold, disruptive style. New cosmetics arrive through the Season 6 Captain Pass, and there’s a new VR set to play in: Clouds Sunset, a pitch high above the clouds against a glowing sunset.

The comms got a meaningful upgrade too. Quick Chat now has nine voiced lines split into three categories — compliments, apologies, and tactical calls like “Unmarked!” and “Behind you!” — and the end-of-match screen lets you fire off “GG!”, “Team up!”, or “Thanks!”. Push to Talk is now the default for voice chat, which longtime players have been asking for. Gameplay changes are deliberately light this season while Sloclap finishes testing Netcode 2.0 — the major networking overhaul that shifts to server-initiated hits (your animations start about 50 milliseconds after you press, so the server judges every duel from what you actually saw). The goal is fewer desyncs and rollbacks and fairer contested moments. Netcode 2.0 is currently testable through the Rematch Beta Test on Steam and will roll out progressively through Season 6. The S6.0 patch does tone down tackle assist (assist width shrinks by about 36%), volley height, and Defense Mode, while giving sprinting stamina costs a slight buff. Two roadmap items slipped: the Legends League, originally planned for Season 6, moves to Season 7 with matchmaking improvements and a top-500 leaderboard per region, and the Volley and Hit Contacts rework moves to Season 8. There’s more coming through the season itself: Halloween and holiday events are on the way, and Sloclap is running special offers with discounts of up to 60% at points throughout Season 6. For the uninitiated: Rematch brings football to life through fast-paced third-person multiplayer action. You take the field in 3v3, 4v4, or 5v5 matches, and every player controls a single athlete in stylized digital arenas. There are no fouls and no offsides — every match is an intense showdown where individual skill, split-second decisions, and tactical teamplay decide it. It comes from Paris-based Sloclap, the studio behind Absolver and Sifu, and it’s available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, plus Xbox Game Pass, with crossplay matchmaking. Season 6 kicked off this morning — patch S6.0 at 4 AM ET, store update at 6 AM, and Season 6 itself at 10 AM ET with Ranked back online. Time to build that career.
