EA Is Shutting Down 4 Of Their Free-To-Play Titles In 90 Days

In EA’s blog, “The Beat”, Patrick Soderlund, Executive Vice President of EA Studios, EA has announced that free-to-play games Battlefield Heroes, Battlefield Play4Free, Need for Speed World and FIFA World will no longer be in active development and will not be supported in 90 days.

However, there is some good news in the post. EA has actually started listening to us consumers in regards to the fact that we love Star Wars: The Old Republic (which will be unaffected by this news) and the fact that most people don’t even know that the four titles previously mentioned still exist outside of blatantly huge ads in the Digital Rights Management (DRM) software, Origin.

Even though it is sad that these titles are no longer being supported, look at the bright side. It’s been more than five years since most of these games became available. That’s incredible in this day and age. I’ve seen games that have barely lasted a year, so it is evident that the respective communities behind these games are some of the best out there, however big or small that may be. While these titles may be going away, I like to think that we may see more from these studios in the coming months.

As always, be sure to check back here each and every day for stories like this one over at Proven Gamer.
