Trophy Whores 380 – Anthem for the Craven-Dick Wedding

Apparently, players are having a lot of problems with Electronic Arts’ Anthem.  We want to give EA some credit for their library of games, but, oftentimes, they make it so hard.  EA does have a tendency to piss off its customers while trying to make a buck.  Ask a Star Wars fan.  Ask a Dead Space fan.  Ask a Mirror’s Edge fan.  The point is, you won’t get anywhere good when looking for a trove of goodwill with EA’s name on it.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, God of War, The Division 2, Horizon Zero Dawn and Anthem.

Trophy Whores 374 – Freakers Come out at Night

This April, we welcome Days Gone to PlayStation 4, and Yield is preparing by rigorously killing zombies in Guns, Gore and Cannolis.  The Freakers aren’t zombies — but they sure evoke the same sense of panic.  Freakers are terrifyingly relentless, so you need more than guns to survive in this nightmarish game of pulse-throttling action.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Days Gone, Fortnite and Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.

Trophy Whores 340 – In the Shadow of God of War

By now, it’s surprising that we don’t have a LEGO game set in the Pixar universe.  Toy Story seems ripe for an adaptation, but if a LEGO Incredibles game includes some of Pixar’s most beloved characters, such as Rex, Sully and Heimlich, then we’re all in for a treat.  Sometimes, we could all go for a trip to Pizza Planet, followed by a few scoops of softball-sized ice cream.  Sprinkles are optional — but encouraged.

And while LEGO Incredibles hasn’t been officially announced, we’re learning more (and more) about God of War, which is so close that we can almost lick it like a Polaroid picture.  God of War focuses a lot of attention on Atreus, Kratos’ son, who seems to be the anchor for Kratos’ mortality, as well as the light that shows the endearing side of Kratos, who is best known for yelling at things and then murdering them.  If God of War is going to unlock its full potential, then we don’t need a new mythos or new monsters, we need to see deeper into Kratos’ soul and consciousness.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Bloodborne, The Legend Zelda: Breath of the Wild, A Way Out, Star Wars and Shadow of the Tomb Raider.  Shit.  We’ve got a full plate this week.  You have to finish the slices of pizza before you can eat ice cream.  And before you leave Pizza Planet, play the claw game.  I hear the prizes are particularly friendly — and green!

Trophy Whores 323 – Dont Buy Metal Gear Survive

This week the Trophy Whores disseminate more information surrounding the demise of Dead Space creator, Visceral Games.  Remember when gamers lauded Electronic Arts for publishing Dead Space and Mirror’s Edge?  Yeah, that was a long time ago.  I think we’re back to grumbling about EA’s wicked ways.  Can you believe the nerve of whoever suggesting putting co-op gameplay in Dead Space 3?

Konami have revealed the release date for Metal Gear Survive, which, on Tricky’s scale of a car running over your foot to Stay Puft relocating your Manhattan digs, is a plastic pitchfork up the rear.  He’s not excited — or sure that Survive should be considered a Metal Gear game.  We all have opinions, but Tricky takes a firm stance whenever Hideo Kojima’s stealth-based mega-hit brainchild is on the tip of anyone’s tongue.

Trophy Whores 322 – Sony Music Switches it Up

The Trophy Whores have a business discussion, and Troy is nowhere to be found.  Someone get him on the phone — NOW!  He would put everyone to shame with his financial acumen!  We need someone who can shed some light, and make sense, of Sony Music jumping into the video game arena.

Sony Music’s game publishing label, Unties, will publish games for the PlayStation 4, as well as the PC and Nintendo Switch.  Sony Music publishing video games, when Sony has a games division, makes about as much sense as a hot dog vendor who doesn’t offer condiments for purchases.  Sony might have a bigger plan at play, but on the surface, logistically, this move doesn’t make sense.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Unties, Electronic Arts and Visceral Games.

Anthem Gameplay Closes Microsoft Conference

After a getting a short teaser trailer at Electronic Arts’ show last night, Anthem, from BioWare, was shown on running on Xbox One X.

Anthem will be an open-world game. The gameplay trailer started with the lead character in a town square. She is given the task of retrieving some workers. Anthem puts players in the hand of freelancers who explore and protect humanity from the threats outside of the wall.

After getting the mission, the trailer introduced an array of exosuits known as javelins. These will be customizable suits. The two characters dove off the wall and used a jetpack to explore the world outside of the wall. Each suit will have different features. The shown, the Ranger and Colossus featured a balanced and tank style suit.

The first look at combat revealed third-person gunplay and abilities that appeared to be on a cool-down timer. The exo-suits will allow players to equip abilities that will allow them to approach combat in different ways. Along with beasts, enemies called Scars also attacked the characters. They appeared to be humanoid, firing projectiles.

Anthem also appears to have drop-in gameplay, as two new players joined the party mid-mission before being confronted by a huge electric storm. The trailer ended with characters going into the storm.

Anthem will be a multiplatform release in 2018.

Stay tuned to Proven Gamer for future coverage of E3.
