Trophy Whores 370 – No Moss

Insomniac Games earned a lot of recognition at the Game Awards, as Marvel’s Spider-Man earned many nominations for various awards.  Unfortunately for Insomniac, the house that Ratchet and Clank helped build, Marvel’s Spider-Man has earned much praise, but the game didn’t win an award during the Game Awards.  To be honest, while Insomniac appreciates recognition from their peers and fans, they’re probably elated to have the fastest-selling PlayStation exclusive on any video game console.  That’s quite the honor.

Join Alex and Yield, as they discuss, among other things, the Game Awards — including the game announcements that rocked the show!

We are happy and proud to share that Proven Gamer has partnered with the Humble Bundle! The Humble Bundle is a fantastic initiative and program that allows games to score a litany of games on the cheap — all while making charitable donations to various groups and organizations. You can click here for the details on Proven Gamer’s Humble Bundle partnership.

In a bit of big news that would make the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles proud, iHeartRadio and Spotify host episodes of Trophy Whores.  It’s a tremendous honor for the show to be part of two massive and respected entertainment communities, and Proven Gamer have only the fans to thank for pushing the podcast to soaring heights. The Trophy Whores work hard to put out a quality weekly show, but they owe so much love to their listeners, who keep the show strong and growing.

Trophy Whores 287 – Honor Among Trophy Whores

If you have listened to last episode, and, of course you have, then you know that Tricky is beelining toward his first tramp stamp.  I don’t know how we got to this point, but the pot at the end of this rainbow teems with equal parts hilarity and terror.  For his first tramp stamp, he needs a small DualShock 4 — to save space for a DualShock 5.  Tricky doesn’t have ink on his lower back yet, but you can help by contributing to the Proven Gamer Extra Life fundraising campaign.  You have until the end of the year, which is closing quickly.

We have updated Extra Life donation numbers, as well as news from around the game industry.  It’s the end of the year, so we hope that you’ve got your holiday gift lists sorted.  Throughout the month, Sony has PlayStation Nework sales for all of the gamers who played nice this year.  Truth be told, even if you have been naughty, you can still take advantage of the PSN deals.  While you are perusing the fine offerings available on the PSN, be sure to check out The Last Guardian, which, despite its tumultous path to release, has received a warm reception from critics.  You would be naughty to pass up the next tale in the ICO universe.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, WWE 2K17, Ark: Survival Evolved, Extra Life, The Last of Us Part II, Watchdogs 2, and Batman: The Telltale Series.

We devote a large chunk of the show to the Trophy Whores Bill of Rights, for which we have painstakingly created an online rough draft.  In video games terms, we can call it the “alpha” version.  We have taken it this far, but we need your input to help finalize (and pass) our Bill of Rights.

Trophy Whores 285 – Get the Towels Ready

It’s Alex’s first show back from a lengthy hiatus, and the Trophy Whores have already discussed — at length — the classic 8-bit Mega Man series.  Alex wouldn’t have it any other way — especially if everyone agrees that Mega Man 3 is the best game in the original series.  Tricky argues for Mega Man 4, and while he might have questionable taste in video games, his argument lends credence to the power of nostalgia.  You’ll smile when you hear to what lengths Tricky went to stay up (past his bedtime) and play Mega Man 4.

Lucia sits out this week, probably because he is disgusted with Tricky’s passion for Mega Man 4, as well as The Division, but even with four hosts, the Trophy Whores record for nearly three hours.  What can you do with three hours?  Listen to this episode, silly.  You can also take a long-ass nap, but we’re talking video games, and you want in on that action.  When a podcast starts with heavy amounts of the Blue Bomber and professional wrestling, then you know that things are going to run long.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Extra Life, Black Friday, The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Titanfall 2.

With the Game Awards approaching, the Trophy Whores try to predict the winners for two categories: Game of the Year and Most-Anticipated Game.  Per usual, every nominee deserves recognition and praise; however, among the Trophy Whores, Uncharted 4, Overwatch and Horizon take top billing.

Overwatch Hosting Another Free-To-Play Weekend

Blizzard has announced that it’s FPS juggernaut Overwatch is going to have another free-to-play weekend.  Players will have the chance to enjoy the full roster of 22 characters, 13 maps, and various game modes such as Quick match, Custom games, and the latest weekly brawls on their PC, Xbox One, and PS4 when it officially kicks off on  Friday, November 18th at 11:00AM pacific standard time and ending on Monday, November 21st at 4:00PM PST.

All in-game progress including character progression, loot boxes, and customization options will carry on past the weekend if players choose to purchase the game.

After being labeled June’s highest selling game according to the NPD numbers, Blizzard had recently reported last month that Overwatch’s ever-growing community had reached a staggering 20 million global players.  With steady promotion, consistent support, and free-to-play weekends like this one, it’ll be interesting to see how much larger it’s global community can become.

Trophy Whores 273 – Segues Destroyed by Soup

Previously on Trophy Whores, Donny said goodbye to Proven Gamer, Lucia joined the show as the fourth official host, and Tricky introduced the headlock-loving Smart Marks, Jeremy and Matt.

You know, that really doesn’t work when you can’t wow the audience with flashy, colorful video clips and a fancy voice-over guy with a sultry voice.  Well, you don’t know unless you try.  That doesn’t give you the green light to do something stupid.  I can tell you that melted wax has no business in the garbage disposal.

This week, Yield returns to wreak awesome, and we discuss news from PAX West 2016.  PAX shows are always good for news, as developers and publishers shovel information into our mouths like we’re pigs at a feeding trough.  And we enjoy video games, so we’ll always be ready to open wide.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Shovel Knight, PlayStation Plus, The Walking Dead, Overwatch, and Batman: The Telltale Series.

Alex has a special shout-out.  On September 16, at Gallery K on Barret Avenue in Louisville, his friend Avalon is holding an art gallery for the first part of the survivor modeling project, This is MY Body, which features sexual assault survivors.  Through this event, these brave women hope to reclaim their bodies and raise sexual assault awareness by speaking out against a pervasive problem in our country.  Admission is free.  Magazine copies featuring the models and photographs will be sold at the show, and the profits will be donated to the Center for Women and Families.  The gallery will be open from 5 pm to 10 pm.  It will be a fantastic event, and if possible, you should go.
