Trophy Whores 341 – Jeff Goldblum is in the Game

Tricky is an April fool.  Come hear our opening segment in all its glory, as Tricky falls hook, line and sinker for an April Fool’s Day joke that pokes at wrestling fans.  Usually, it’s easy to see an April Fool’s Day joke from a mile away, but sometimes a nugget of fiction passes through our filters.

But we never let the most delicious topics pass through our news filters.  This week we discuss the latest offerings from PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection, as well as a price drop for the PlayStation VR and Jurassic World Evolution.  As Tricky describes it, you get to manage your own theme park full of carnivorous and gigantic dinosaurs.  When you run a dinosaur zoo, it never ends well.  Expect a torrent of trouble and headaches.  And so much worse.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Bloodborne, Horizon Zero Dawn: The Frozen Wilds, Track Mania Turbo and PixelJunk Monsters 2.

Trophy Whores 321 – Humble Loots Boxes in Virtual Reality

This week, with Stephen filming the next episode of “Stephen, World’s Best Dad,” Alex and Tricky hold a two-man show that begs the question: Who let these two clowns have microphones?  We may never know the answer, so we have to blame someone at random.

After years of blaming Ubisoft for ruining Assassin’s Creed, due to overuse, Alex is happy to have a game set in ancient Egypt.  Assassin’s Creed Origins is set to release on October 27 — a.k.a. before you know it.  Tricky no doubt has his sights set on Origins, as well as many of the PlayStation VR games planned for release in early 2018.  Meanwhile, Alex, the leader in the Platinum trophy count, dips back into Resogun, a rocking side-scrolling shooter from the early days of PlayStation 4.

Resogun, much like Rocket League, always welcomes you back with loving arms wide open.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Resogun, GameStop, Assassin’s Creed Origins and PlayStation VR.

Trophy Whores 306 – One-Hour PlayStation Sizzle Reel

During their E3 2017 showcase, Sony Interactive Entertainment seemed to have traded long-winded monologues for a nearly constant stream of game videos.  Truth be told, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Shawn Layden didn’t have much to say during the showcase.  People seem split in their opinions.  Alex liked the press conference, while Mark and Yield were disappointed.

Aside from Monster Hunter and Shadow of the Colossus, Sony didn’t have many surprises for their viewers and fans; however, if you watched the showcase, then you saw a litany of great and exciting games.  If you own a PlayStation 4 or PlayStation VR, then E3 2017 has given you reason to smile.  If nothing else, it has been nice to see Supermassive Games, developer of the highly acclaimed game Until Dawn, so entwined with PlayStation’s immediate future.

You might want to buckle up.  Over the course of the next couple hours, we’re going to cover everything from Sony’s E3 showcase, as well as the hour-long pre-show. Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Life is Strange, Days Gone, God of War, Inpatient and Spider-Man.

Trophy Whores 298 – PAX East On The Horizon

Last Tuesday, Sony Computer Entertainment shared a gem with the gaming world, and we’re feeling the aftershocks.  Yes, we’re in the midst of Horizon Zero Dawn release week, and you know that the Trophy Whores are talking miles about Guerilla Games new open-world action game.  The opinions differ in certain areas, but, unsurprisingly, the guys have plenty of love to throw toward Horizon Zero Dawn, which has to be an early contender for Game of the Year.  What other game has ravenous giant mechanical animals and dinosaurs?

Beyond Horizon, the Trophy Whores discuss in depth life-to-date PlayStation VR sales.  It’s safe to say that Sony’s VR headset has done much better than anticipated.  While not everyone is down with VR, or virtual reality, for those people who like to have things spelled out, overall, the Trophy Whores have many positive things to say about Sony’s VR headset.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Horizon Zero Dawn, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost Recon Wildlands, PlayStation Plus and Middle Earth: Shadow of War.

In a bit of big, big news, Trophy Whores has been approved for iHeartRadio, which greatly expands the show’s footprint and reach. PlayStation VR Launches Today

Sony Interactive Entertainment America (SIEA) today launched PlayStation VR (PS VR), a virtual reality system for the PlayStation4 (PS4™) system that takes gaming to the next level of immersion and transports players into the virtual worlds of their games.  Concurrent with the global launch, PS VR is now available in the United States and Canada at a suggested retail price of USD $399 and CAD $549 respectively.  PS VR, which is compatible with the more than 40 million PS4 systems already inside consumers’ homes, arrives with a lineup of 30 games, including exclusive titles such as  Rez Infinite (Monstars & Enhance Games), Batman™: Arkham VR (RockSteady and Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment), DRIVECLUB VR  and  RIGS Mechanized Combat League (SIE Worldwide Studios).  In total, PS VR will have a library of approximately 50 games by the end of the year.*1

“I am beyond excited that today we are finally able to bring PlayStation VR and the brand new gaming experiences enabled by this new medium into the homes of PS4 fans,” said Shawn Layden, President of SIEA and Chairman of SIE Worldwide Studios.  “We believe PS VR has the power to make VR gaming a reality for the mainstream, and the impact that PS VR will have on the future of both games and entertainment will be transformative.  I cannot wait for gamers to experience it for themselves.” I’m going to get a TechnoMono gaming chair to keep comfortable while I play for hours.

PS VR delivers a sense of presence, where players feel as though they are physically inside the virtual world of a game.  PS VR leverages state-of-the-art technologies, such as 360-degree head tracking, wide field of view, high refresh rates, and SIE’s own binaural 3D audio technology, to heighten the emotions gamers experience as they play and make them believe they’ve been transported to another world.  By using peripherals such as PlayStation Move Motion Controller, DUALSHOCK4 Wireless Controller, and the upcoming PS VR Aim Controller, players can explore virtual environments and intuitively interact with characters as if they are actually present in the world of a game.

PS VR integrates a “Social Screen” feature that allows users who are not wearing the VR headset to see on the TV what the PS VR player is seeing in the headset, or to play alongside the VR player in supporting games.  Games such as  THE PLAYROOM VR (SIE WWS), which will be available as a free download to all PS VR owners, take advantage of this feature and demonstrate how PS VR can create unique multiplayer experiences when shared with friends and family.

PS VR will launch with a large and diverse lineup of first- and third-party games including  EVE: Valkyrie (CCP Games),  Thumper (Drool),  100ft Robot Golf (No Goblin), Job Simulator (Owlchemy Games),  Superhypercube (Polytron), Battlezone (Rebellion),  Eagle Flight (Ubisoft),  Here They Lie™, PlayStation VR WORLDS  and  Until Dawn™: Rush of Blood (SIE WWS).

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes Launches on October 13th for Playstation VR

Steel Crate Games has announced that the cooperative bomb-defusing game Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes will be available at launch for PlayStation VR on October 13th, 2016. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes is an award-winning party game designed for virtual reality platforms and is a perfect fit for living room game nights.

In Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, one player is trapped in a virtual room with a ticking time bomb they must defuse. The other players are the “Experts” who must give the instructions to defuse the bomb by deciphering the information found in the bomb defusal manual. But there’s a catch: the experts can’t see the bomb, so everyone will need to talk it out – fast!

Puzzle solving and communication skills – and maybe a few friendships – will be put to the test as players race to defuse bombs while communicating quickly, clearly, and effectively. Everybody has a role to play whether they are defusing the bomb or not. Rounds are fast-paced, tense, occasionally silly, and almost always loud.

With PS VR, experts can view and control the bomb defusal manual on their TV screen while communicating with the defuser. The manual is also freely available and can be printed or viewed on a tablet or any other web-enabled device.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes will be available on the PlayStation Network in Canada, USA, and in Europe wherever PS VR is available. During launch week, PlayStation Plus members get a 10% discount on the base price of $14.99 USD (see regional prices).

Features:
·         Challenging puzzles that will test the limits of your communication skills… and friendships?
·         A different bomb every time! Procedurally generated puzzles keep the action fresh.
·         Local multiplayer party game – A great way to experience VR with all of your friends at the same time!

Trophy Whores 275 – Chewbacca Onesie

Best title ever?  Best title ever.  So there’s that.  Lucia wears a Chewbacca onesie like no one’s business.  When in San Diego … .

Candice — yes, that Candice — returns to Trophy Whores and shares her thoughts on PlayStation 4 Pro, as well as Death Stranding and Metal Gear Survive.  Tricky tries to defend Survive, but Lucia and Candice have none of it.  Candice evokes the phrase “dumpster fire,” which never means good things.  Wherever there’s dumpster fire, it’s probably being fueled by copies of The Division and Tricky’s list of Platinum trophies.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Death Stranding, Metal Gear Survive, No Man’s Sky and the The Last Guardian.  After a lengthy development cycle, The Last Guardian has been delayed, and on some level, the game feels like a carrot on a string.  We know it’s there, and we can see it, but we can never reach out and grab it.  At least Sony still lists it for release in 2016.  The Last Guardian will be available in December — unless Sony delays it again.

Trophy Whores 262 – Ride Out the E3 Aftershocks

The Trophy Whores have a lot to talk about this week, so let’s get down to brass tacks. For most gamers, E3 week is like the holiday season, with many gifts delivered daily. Held annually in Los Angeles, E3 showcases software that players can look forward to in 2016 and beyond. If you play video games, June is easily one of the best months of the year.  The expo spawns a massive amount of news, so the Trophy Whores have called in reinforcements to help dish out the tastiest tidbits and stories.

Lucia rejoins the crew, as they tackle the biggest PlayStation news from E3, including the Trophy Whores’ E3 predictions. If you enjoy going to a buffet and filling your plate with as much mediocre food as possible, then you will gorge on the amount of news that is about to come out of the E3 kitchen. Like servers, the Trophy Whores are here to deliver the news to you as quickly as possible – with as few hairs in the Sony stew as possible.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Spider-Man, Crash Bandicoot, Days Gone, God of War, Death Stranding, Resident Evil 7 and  Detroit: Become Human.

Regardless of how you feel about Sony, Microsoft or Nintendo, everyone wins during E3. It’s a great time for the video game industry, as the amount of news that explodes onto the television and the Internet is akin to the amount of rain that falls from the sky during the monsoon season.

Trophy Whores 254 – Bringer of the PAX Plague

Tricky and the Trophy Whores, which sounds like a fantastic name for a hip-hop group, have big news to break, but I don’t want to give it away.  And by big news, I mean “you heard it here first” news.  You’ll have to be patient; however, the Trophy Whores have plenty of chatter to keep you entertained.

Donny is the Mayor of Babbleville.  It’s official.  It’s also better much better than being the Bringer of the PAX Plague: Tricky.  Luckily, the Trophy Whores have quarantined Tricky, so they won’t be getting sick.  No one wants to deal with a bad case of the coughs — especially when the galaxy needs to be saved!

The Trophy Whores continue their Ratchet & Clank discussion, and Tricky has all of the hot news from PAX East.  Apparently, the Goddess likes PlayStation VR so much that she wants to buy it — despite the cost.  Tricky seems on-board, so if you aren’t sold on VR, Proven Gamer has you covered.  Tricky also got his mitts on Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants and Manhattan, which Alex hopes is the second coming of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, PlayStation VR, Devil May Cry, Ratchet & Clank, Until Dawn, Mafia III, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.

Rez Infinite on Playstation VR

Today, Friday April 21st is the first day at PAXEAST 2016 in Boston, Ma. The very first booth I went straight to was the Playstation booth and jumped on the line for Playstation VR. They have two lines formed, and you get to demo the game that is ready at the moment. In demo A the games are Rigs, Job Simulator, Thumper, Headmaster and Gnog. In demo B, VR Worlds, Harmonix Music VR, Wayward Shy, Rez Infinite and Rush of Blood. I had the oppurtunity to play Rez Inifite using the Playstation VR. The guy explained to me that I would be using the dual shock 4 along with the PS VR. The guy told me that all I have to do is look at the objects to aim at the targets press down on x and release to shoot. Once the game started various objects were coming towards me and I aimed and shot. The one thing that I truly liked was that I was able to pull a 180 degree turn and get the objects that I missed.

sony_playstation_vr_4

Rez Infinite originally came out on Dream Cast, Playstation 2 and Xbox 360. The game will be released on the PS4 sometime this year, the date has not been announced yet. The game is only downloadable for the PS4, sorry guys and gals you are unable to purchase in a store. I will leave you with this, I enjoyed playing Rez Infinite on the Playstation VR and I am looking forward to playing it when it is released.
