Sony Announces PS4 Pro at PlayStation Meeting in New York

Sony held a press conference called the PlayStation Meeting in New York, Wednesday September 7th to unveil the PlayStation 4 Pro which will be available on November 10, 2016 at the suggested retail price of $399.99 USD ($499.99 CAD).  Although exact specs have not been announced, according to the PS4’s lead system architect Mark Cerny, Sony has “more than doubled” the power of the PS4’s GPU and boosted the clock speed of its CPU.  The PS4 Pro will be shipped stock with built in support for both 4K and HDR Content as well as a 1TB harddrive.   Many new releases will be shipped with 4K support for use on the PlayStation 4 Pro; Titles such as Horizon: Zero Dawn, For Honor, and Mass Effect Andromeda will be released with both a standard version as well as a 4K version.

A number of entertainment streaming apps will also be available on the PS4 Pro.  Netflix will be available at launch with more than 600 hours of entertainment with 4k support. A 4k supported YouTube app is in development as well.

Playstation fans who are not fully committed to the “4K cause” and have yet to join the PS4 family can rejoice!  Sony also announced a Slimmer, lighter PS4 which will be available on most markets September 15th at a suggested retail price of $299.99 USD.
