News, and subsequently news stories, can be very fluid. With all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, sometimes stories will slip through the cracks. Well, the Proven News Wrap-Up is here to fix all that! Below are what we have determined to be the top stories for the week of 5/11. Although they are numbered, they are not ranked in any particular order.
1) List of Pre-Orders Appear on Walmart’s Site
With E3 coming next month, the time of leaks and rumors is squarely upon the gaming world. Things got off to a hot start this week when Walmart’s website published a list of games, some of them unannounced. Check out the full list below:
- Tom Clancy’s The Division 2
- Splinter Cell
- Insurgency: Sandstorm
- The Last of Us 2
- Just Cause 4
- Destiny Comet
- Final Fantasy 7 Remake
- Metroid Prime
- Beyond Good and Evil 2
- Rage 2
- Assassin’s Creed
- NBA 2K19
- WWE 2K19
- Dragon Quest 2
- Super Smash Bros.
- Borderlands 3
- Lego DC Villains
- Dreams
- Forza Horizon 5
- Gears of War 5
While a pre-order list by no means confirms the games are coming, it gives gamers more reasons to get excited about each of the E3 press briefings. If any of them are true, it is always a shame to see developers announcements undercuts by leaks.
2) Square Enix Announces E3 Presentation
The last time Square Enix did an E3 showcase was back in 2015. This year, they will be coming back, with a digital showcase on June 11. For the company to come back with a showcase after taking several years off, it is fair to assume that Square has updates on lots of games. With Shadow of the Tomb Raider coming in September, there will likely be a large showing at E3. Could new information be announced for Kingdom Hearts III? Is there anything of Final Fantasy VII Remake ready to be revealed? Also, lets not forget that Square Enix is working on an Avengers game that hasn’t had any new information since it was initially announced.
3) Nintendo Says No to Virtual Console
After Nintendo revealed the details of Nintendo Switch Online, they were quick to follow-up with the announcement that no Virtual Console was planned for the Switch. While this doesn’t mean that classic games won’t be coming to Switch(there are already 20 NES games confirmed for Switch Online), it does change the way these games will be accessed. Right now, it appears there will be two avenues for classic Nintendo games. The first are the classic consoles such as the NES and SNES classic. The second looks to be the list of games that will be added via Switch Online. However, with Switch Online, gamers will only have access to the games as long as they have a subscription. Only time will tell what the future of classic Nintendo games looks like. However, this announcement is the nail in the coffin for VC on the Switch.
4) Thanos In Fortnite!
Epic and Marvel are flying high right now. Avengers: Infinity War is shattering the box office and the Fortnite hype train doesn’t look like it is stopping anytime soon. So obviously the next step is to drop Thanos into a special, timed mode in Fortnite right? This isn’t something that had to happen, but everything about it seems to fit so well. This twist on the solo mode in Fortnite Battle Royale sees all the players scrambling to find the Infinity Gauntlet on the map and turn into Thanos, granting them increased shields, health, and powerful abilities. If someone is able to take Thanos down, they will have the chance to play as him.
The coolest part about this mode was how it caught everyone off guard. There wasn’t a ton of build-up. It was announced, then the next day it was a playable mode in Fortnite. Something like this also opens to the door for other potential crossovers into the game. What could Epic have in store next?
