Two GTA 6 bombshells in 24 hours — a report says PC lands just months after console, and a Bloomberg deep-dive explains why the game took 13 years.
GamesBeat (Oct 13), citing four sources familiar with Rockstar’s plans, reports GTA 6 targets PC in Q1 2027 — January to March. Rockstar hasn’t confirmed and didn’t comment. Still a rumor, but from a sourced outlet, not a leak account.
If true, it’s Rockstar’s fastest PC turnaround ever: GTA 5 took ~19 months, Red Dead 2 took ~13 months. A Q1 window would mean a 6-week to 4-month gap after the Nov 19 console launch.
Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier profile (Oct 14) reveals the original plan, codenamed Project Americas, spanned large areas of North AND South America — shelved so the whole company could finish Red Dead 2 first. First research trip was Miami in 2015.
Rockstar opened a whole new LA studio just to build GTA 6’s NPCs, and devs rode with police and hit Miami nightclubs for research. Head of development Phil Hooker says the engine/tools/team built here mean the next game won’t take another 8 years.
Counterweight: Rockstar North’s Rob Nelson told Famitsu this week he’s confident Nov 19 holds. Take-Two’s earnings call is Nov 9 — the likely moment PC plans get clarified or denied.
Debate: does a fast PC port kill the double-dip (buy on console, buy again on PC), or does Rockstar just want the mod/RP audience day-one-adjacent this time? And Project Americas got cut to ship the game — was scaling back the map the right call, or did we lose the most ambitious GTA ever made?
