Hockey fans, clear your Friday. Tape to Tape, the roguelite hockey hit that has been building a cult following in Steam Early Access since 2023, finally launches its full 1.0 version tomorrow, Friday, October 23 — and it’s dropping on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch the very same day.

If you haven’t heard of it, think NHL 94 meets Hades. You take control of Angus McShaggy and lead a ragtag squad across a bizarre hockey world filled with rival teams that absolutely do not play by the rules — cheating referees, farting princesses, and the most sinister opponents of all: the Golfers. Every run, you hire unique players, discover synergies between them, stack abilities and relics, bribe the referees, and visit the mighty Blademaster between runs for permanent upgrades. Lose, and the run is over. Win, and hockey’s former glory gets one step closer to being restored.
A 1.0 Launch Worth the Wait
Tape to Tape has been in Early Access for more than three years, and developer Excellent Rectangle (published by Null Games, the developer-friendly publisher founded by GitHub co-founder Chris Wanstrath) is not treating 1.0 like a small patch. The launch brings a completely revamped roguelite campaign, 19 playable squads — each with its own twist, from the free-agent-hiring GM Squad to the Slapshot Squad, which forgets the wrist shot even exists — hundreds of new abilities and relics, a full UI and UX overhaul, upgraded arenas and audio, and a brand-new Nightmare difficulty for players who thought they had the game figured out.
Yes, There’s a Platinum
PlayStation players get the full trophy treatment. The PS5 version ships with 19 trophies, including a Platinum — and it’s an unusual list, weighted toward the top end with 11 Silver and 7 Gold trophies alongside it. Runs can run anywhere from a quick six-hour story clear to a 60-hour completionist grind, so earning that Platinum should keep trophy hunters busy well past launch weekend.

On the ice, it’s fast, responsive arcade hockey — big hits, one-timers, saucer passes, and desperate saves — that’s easy to pick up and genuinely deep to master. The whole campaign can be played solo or in local couch co-op, and Play Now, Tournament, and Shootout modes support up to 4 local players on PS5. Just know going in: there’s no native online multiplayer, so this one lives and dies by the couch, exactly like the classics it’s channeling.
Tape to Tape launches Friday, October 23, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC for $19.99 — and the developers have confirmed there are no plans to raise the price for the 1.0 launch, so Early Access supporters and day-one console players are all getting the complete game for the same twenty bucks.
