The wait is over for console racers. 3DClouds has released the long-awaited online multiplayer update for its sim-cade racer Formula Legends today, Thursday October 29, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S — and it is a free update.
The headline is crossplay. PC players got online multiplayer last month, and now PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC players can all race each other in the same lobbies for the first time. 3DClouds says it has been working on this update for the past year, and it lands as the game’s community keeps growing: Formula Legends has sold over 100,000 units across PC and console since launching in September 2025, and it recently climbed into the ‘Very Positive’ user review bracket on Steam.
Multiplayer runs on peer-to-peer hosting, and it is built to be picked up and played. Every race, championship and car combination in the game is available online, and open games show up in the in-game server browser. If you would rather run your own grid, you can host public races or password-protected private races, with dozens of eras, tracks and settings to mix — different weather conditions, race lengths, mandatory pit stops, era-dependent track layouts and more.

That era-hopping is the whole soul of Formula Legends. The game playfully recreates the last 70 years of premier open-wheel motorsport, pairing deep-but-approachable ‘simulation meets arcade’ handling with cars, tracks and series drawn from across the sport’s history. It has kept evolving since launch with free features and improvements, alongside new cars, tracks and series arriving as paid DLC — and 3DClouds says more content updates and DLC are already planned.

“When we first conceptualised Formula Legends we wanted it to be a racing game that brought people together, regardless of which era of motorsport they cherished,” said Francesco Bruschi, CEO of 3DClouds. “These eras and their different challenges and flavours truly come alive when you compare and contrast them in back-to-back online races and now thanks to crossplay the console and PC communities can play together regardless of platform — it really is a beautiful thing!”
Formula Legends is available now on PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch, and the multiplayer update is live today on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, joining the PC version that launched last month.
It is a busy stretch for playing together, too — between Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 Drops November 6 — Two New Warzone Maps, a Reimagined Shoot House, and Halloween Modes THIS Friday, online worlds like Cozy Grove’s Creators Are Launching a Cozy MMO — Spirit Crossing Lands November 16, and cross-platform arrivals like You’ve Got Mail — TANUKI: Pon’s Summer Delivers November 10, and It’s Coming to PS5 and Game Pass, there has rarely been a better time to race, squad up and play with friends on whatever box they own.
