Pokémon UNITE Is Shutting Down: Servers Close in March 2027 After Nearly Six Years

The Pokémon Company announced on October 27, 2026 that Pokémon UNITE is coming to an end. Service for the free-to-play 5v5 MOBA — developed with TiMi Studio Group — ends on Tuesday, March 23, 2027, at 00:00 UTC, which is Monday, March 22 at 8:00 PM Eastern in the US. The shutdown covers both the Nintendo Switch version and the mobile versions, and once it hits, players will no longer be able to log in or take part in battles.

It’s the end of a run that started on Nintendo Switch on July 21, 2021 (mobile followed that September), so the game will close just shy of six years. Notably, the announcement gives no reason for the closure. Pokémon has a long history on Nintendo platforms, including Pokémon Quest.

What Changed on Announcement Day

On October 27 at 05:00 UTC, Aeos gem sales were suspended — you can still spend gems you already have right up until service ends, but you can’t buy more. New UNITE Club memberships and automatic renewals were suspended at the same time; current members keep their benefits until the end of their current membership period. A Grand Shop Sale also kicked off alongside the announcement, with select items — including returning event and Battle Pass Holowear and Trainer fashion — discounted by up to 80% through the end of service.

The Farewell Update Lands November 12

A final major update arrives Thursday, November 12, 2026, at 04:00 UTC (11:00 PM Eastern on November 11), built around a special farewell event that runs until the servers close. It adds a Unite Coin Exchange, where special Unite Coins can be traded for items that have appeared in the game before — Unite licenses, Holowear, Trainer fashion items, Unite Snapshot items and more. The coins come from a Unite Coin Log-In Bonus and Unite Coin Missions, earned by winning ranked matches and playing other battle modes.

The Library: A Keepsake, Not an Offline Mode

The same update adds the Library feature, which lets players keep a record of their time with the game after shutdown: you can visit the Practice Area and view the items and achievements you earned — Holowear, Unite licenses, Trainer fashion items, emblems, tournament results and more. There are two big catches. First, you MUST complete the Library’s data download before service ends on March 23, 2027, or you lose access to it permanently — and the data generally can’t be transferred if you change devices. Second, it’s a viewing feature, not playable battles: held items and boost emblems are view-only afterward (the developers recommend finishing your emblem merges and held item upgrades before the end), and there is no offline match mode. Some players are already petitioning for a true offline bot mode to be added before it’s too late, but nothing like that has been announced.

One Last Tournament

Competitive play gets a proper sendoff. The Pokémon UNITE Aeos Crown 2027 Tokyo tournament will go ahead as previously announced: online regional qualifiers begin December 5, 2026, and the finals take place in Tokyo on March 20–21, 2027 — wrapping up just two days before the servers go dark. Looking back, there was an early sign: earlier this year UNITE was removed from the 2027 Pokémon World Championships lineup in favor of this standalone Aeos Crown event. The game also ended service early in Belgium and the Netherlands, back on November 30, 2025.

What Players Should Do Now

If you still play: spend your remaining Aeos gems before March 22, finish merging boost emblems and upgrading held items, and make sure you log in after the November 12 update to complete the Library data download if you want to keep your collection viewable. One open question is refunds: the Japanese announcement outlines a refund process for unused PAID Aeos gems after service ends (bonus gems and UNITE Club gems excluded), but the English-language notices don’t mention refunds at all, so there’s no confirmed word for players outside Japan yet.
