Company of Heroes 3 Just Got Its Biggest Update Ever — And It Is Free

Company of Heroes 3 just received its biggest update since launch, and it is free for everyone who owns the game. Update 3.0 is available now on PC via Steam, and it arrives as Relic Entertainment celebrates 20 years of Company of Heroes, a franchise that has shaped real-time strategy games since the first game launched in 2006.

The update is not a small patch with a few balance tweaks. Company of Heroes 3 update 3.0 adds five new maps, a brand-new co-operative mode, new cosmetic sets, anniversary events and free rewards. It is the kind of update that gives lapsed players a reason to reinstall, and gives regular players a whole new set of reasons to keep playing through November.

Company of Heroes 3 launched in 2023, and Relic has continued to support it with new features, content and improvements since then. This update is the largest of those efforts so far, and it is deliberately timed to the franchise’s 20th anniversary. As Executive Producer David R. Little put it, “twenty years ago, players around the world picked up Company of Heroes, a title that shaped how real-time strategy games are played today.” Update 3.0 is Relic’s way of marking that milestone by giving players more to play, not just more to remember.

Company of Heroes 3 Update 3.0: Five New Maps

The headline addition in Company of Heroes 3 update 3.0 is five brand-new maps, all playable in multiplayer and skirmish. The new maps are Dam Busters, Le Hamel, Port of Naples, Hilltop and Road to Rome, and they cover a wide range of sizes, settings and play styles.

Dam Busters is the biggest of the five. It is an eight-player Battleground map, built for large multiplayer matches where control of the map, and the resources on it, becomes a long, grinding fight. The other four maps are designed for smaller, tighter games, where early positioning and a single well-timed push can decide the match. Together, they give Company of Heroes 3 a much broader map pool than it had before, and they should help keep multiplayer feeling fresh for a long time.

New maps matter more in a game like Company of Heroes 3 than in most strategy games. Because the series is built around cover, sight lines, choke points and control of territory, a new map is not just a new backdrop. It changes which units are strong, which tactics work, and how a match unfolds in its first five minutes. Five new maps at once is therefore a significant shake-up, and it will take the community weeks to work out the best approaches on each one.

Final Stand Brings Co-Op Survival to Company of Heroes 3

The other major addition in Company of Heroes 3 update 3.0 is Final Stand, a new co-operative multiplayer mode for up to three players. Set in Italy, Final Stand asks players to fight together against waves of increasingly stronger AI-controlled enemies, earning upgrades as they survive and unlocking permanent boosts through progression.

Players can choose from a variety of battlegroups to customise their approach, which means the mode is not just about surviving longer. It is about building a team that works together, picking battlegroups that cover each other’s weaknesses, and deciding when to spend resources on upgrades and when to save them for the next, harder wave.

Co-op survival is a natural fit for Company of Heroes 3. The series has always been about holding ground under pressure, and Final Stand turns that into a shared experience. It also gives players who prefer playing with friends, rather than against strangers, a new way to enjoy the game. With three players, communication and coordination become as important as unit control, and a well-organised team should be able to survive far longer than three players acting alone.

Company of Heroes 3 Anniversary Events and Free Rewards

Update 3.0 also brings a set of 20th Anniversary Challenges and free cosmetic rewards. Players can take part in in-game events to unlock free 20th Anniversary cosmetic rewards, and there are two limited-time rewards that are worth logging in for.

Log into Company of Heroes 3 between November 6 and November 13, 2026, to earn the limited-time 20th Anniversary Cap, and play a match to unlock the Victory Medal Profile Icon. Both are free, and both are tied to the anniversary celebrations, so they will not be available forever.

For players who want more cosmetics, the update also adds four premium cosmetic sets to the in-game store: D-Day 1944, D-Day 2026, Tank Aces and Airborne. Those are paid sets, and they are separate from the free anniversary rewards. The distinction is important. The core of update 3.0, including the maps and Final Stand, is free for all owners of Company of Heroes 3 on Steam. The premium sets are optional extras for players who want to customise their armies further.

What Company of Heroes 3 Update 3.0 Means for Players

Company of Heroes 3 has had a long post-launch life, and update 3.0 is a clear statement that Relic is still investing in it. The combination of five new maps and a new co-op mode is exactly the kind of content that can bring players back, because it changes how the game plays rather than just how it looks.

It is also worth putting update 3.0 in context with what else is happening around Company of Heroes 3. Relic and SEGA recently announced Company of Heroes: Definitive Edition, which is available for PC via Steam as part of a bundle that includes Company of Heroes 3, Operation Torch and more. Operation Torch is the game’s first single-player DLC, and you can read our earlier coverage in Company of Heroes 3: Operation Torch Announced — First Single-Player DLC Brings 15 Missions to North Africa on November 25. That DLC arrives on November 25, so November is shaping up to be a busy month for Company of Heroes 3 players, with a free update now and a paid single-player expansion later in the month.

For strategy fans more broadly, Company of Heroes 3 update 3.0 is a reminder that the genre is still alive and well on PC. Sega and Relic are also behind Dawn of War IV, another major real-time strategy game, and our coverage of its latest trailer is well worth a read: Nine Minutes of War — Dawn of War IV’s Massive Game Overview Trailer Shows Off 70+ Missions, The Last Stand, and the Deepest Army Customization Ever.

How to Get Company of Heroes 3 Update 3.0

Update 3.0 is available now, free, for all owners of Company of Heroes 3 on PC via Steam. If you already own the game, the update should download automatically through Steam. If you have not played in a while, it is worth checking that your game is up to date before jumping into Final Stand or trying the new maps, as the update is the largest the game has received since launch.

The anniversary rewards are time-limited, so the best time to return is this week. Log in between November 6 and November 13, 2026, to claim the 20th Anniversary Cap, play a match to unlock the Victory Medal Profile Icon, and try the 20th Anniversary Challenges for the other free cosmetic rewards.

Relic announced update 3.0 today, November 5, 2026. For more information, visit the official Company of Heroes website, and see the original announcement via Games Press.
