Arma Reforger Just Went Full Rally — New DLC, Six Tracks and a Massive Free Vehicle Overhaul

Arma Reforger — driving toward the battlefield at sunset

Arma Reforger is shifting gears, literally. Bohemia Interactive has released the Rally DLC for the military simulator, a $7.99 add-on that turns the game into a rally racing experience, alongside update 1.9, a major free overhaul of the game’s vehicles, handling and steering wheel support. It is the biggest driving update the game has ever received, and it arrives at the same time as a new game mode built for speed.

According to the original Bohemia Interactive announcement, the Rally DLC and the 1.9 update are available now on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The DLC is for players who want to race, while the free update changes how every vehicle in the game drives, which means the whole community benefits whether they buy the DLC or not.

Arma Reforger Rally DLC: Six Tracks, Three Rally Cars

The Rally DLC adds a brand-new game mode called Rally, with six rally tracks across the fictional island of Everon, ranging from fast straights to technical sections that punish sloppy driving. Three new rally cars join the roster to race them, and players can run time trials and compete for the best times on leaderboards, both solo and against friends in multiplayer.

The mode is a deliberate change of pace for a game known for its slow, methodical military simulation. Rally is about speed, commitment and car control, and it gives Arma Reforger a competitive mode that is easy to understand and hard to master. The leaderboard chase is the hook: once you have a time on a track, the temptation to shave a second off it is hard to resist.

At $7.99, the Rally DLC is priced as a focused add-on rather than a major expansion, and it comes with its own set of assets for the community. Modders and scenario creators get access to the rally content through the Workbench tools, which means the rally racing could spread far beyond the six official tracks as the community builds its own courses.

Arma Reforger Update 1.9 Is a Free Vehicle Overhaul

The free 1.9 update is the bigger story for most players, because it changes how every vehicle in Arma Reforger feels. Bohemia Interactive has overhauled the game’s vehicle handling, with reworked steering, suspension, traction and braking, a new differential model, a smarter braking system that can stop you from locking the wheels, and improvements to acceleration that should make vehicles feel more planted and more predictable.

The update also adds full steering wheel support, with force feedback, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. That is a significant addition for a game whose vehicles have always been a core part of the experience, and it is exactly the kind of feature that rally fans will want. The new handling model was developed alongside the Rally DLC, but it applies to the whole game, including the military vehicles that players have been driving since launch.

There are improvements beyond driving, too. The update reworks the game’s vehicle damage system, with a new health model that allows for more realistic damage and disables wheel steering and braking when the wheels themselves are damaged. A new radiator part in the engine means vehicles can overheat if the cooling system fails, which adds a new layer of risk to pushing a damaged vehicle hard. It is a simulation-first change, and it fits the Arma philosophy of making every system matter.

What Else Is New in Arma Reforger 1.9

Update 1.9 also reworks the game’s audio, with vehicle engines that rev realistically and react to their speed, new damage sounds, and the first version of an automatic occlusion system that changes how sounds are heard through walls and objects. The visuals get a pass too, with a new post-processing effect that adds a vignette and chromatic aberration to the camera, a new depth of field system, and improvements to shadows and lighting that should make the game look more atmospheric.

The update also adds new content for everyone. The Armaverse, the game’s official connected world, gets a new event called Operation Ice Storm, set in the snow-covered terrain of the Sakhal region, where players must navigate hostile territory and complete objectives before reinforcements arrive. And the PlayStation 5 version of the game is getting new content, including a revamped version of the Conflict mode that improves how players find and join matches.

For players who want to race, the Rally DLC is the headline. For everyone else, the free 1.9 update is the reason to come back.
