Trophy Whores 331 – Gods of War Rocket Up the Download Charts

Alex and Roberto help ring in the new year by looking back at 2017 and forward to 2018.  Like two killer whales at Sea World, they’re itching to frolic in the deep blue ocean of video games that promise an exciting 2018.

Better yet, we’re getting at least one more God of War game before the series pays homage to “The Fonz” and goes airborne over a particularly dangerous aquatic predator.  It’s a shark.  Sony Santa Monica is dangerously close to jumping the shark, and Alex proposes that maybe Kratos should ride off into the sunset after his latest adventure.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, Batman: The Telltale Series, Inside, Rocket League and God of War.

Trophy Whores 325 – The Tricky Thing About 4k

Well Tricky rolls up the sleeves and dishes out a big old hate sandwich with a side of hate-o-naise and washes it down with some Hate-or-ade this week as he expresses his displeasure with owners of “the most power console ever”. Steve joins Tricky as they discuss the news of the week, the Rangers winning streak, and a possible next gen timetable.

Trophy Whores 311 – 1980s Street Fighter Pong on a Beach Tennis Court

It is a momentous occasion!  Since Lucia left, we’ve felt a void on the show.  While we can never replace Lucia and his expertise, we have found a new co-host who we trust to help make Trophy Whores greater than a fantastic, magical speedboat full of pandas in pastel suits.  Stephen, also a host of the Nintendo Duel Screens, steps into the limelight as the newest addition to the Trophy Whores podcast.  He needs to work on that Platinum count, but we know that he can turn on the afterburners and rocket up the leaderboards.

Join the Trophy Whores as they welcome Stephen to the show and discuss, among other things, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Windjammers, The Wolf Among Us and The Walking Dead.

Trophy Whores 308 – Lucia’s Last Stand

We promise this story won’t involve a mutant cure or an ill-conceived Dark Phoenix arc.  This week we bid farewell to another long-serving host, as Lucia, or Mark, if you prefer, follows his dream to become a world-renowned JRPG play-tester.  Since he’s a big fan of wrestling, and World Wrestling Entertainment in particular, we can’t let him leave without “wishing him the best in his future endeavors.”  Mark, that’s our parting gift to you.  You’ve been “future-endeavored.”

In all seriousness, Mark, we wish you the best, and we appreciate the dedication that you have shown to the Trophy Whores podcast and its listeners.  We will miss your weekly presence, RPG expertise and SoCal point of view.

Crash Bandicoot has returned to the spotlight, and we discuss the insanity of his new-old games.  We’ve played these games before, but they’re still a blast to revisit.  Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Crash Bandicoot, Knack, Until Dawn, Shadow of the Colossus and Mass Effect: Andromeda.

Trophy Whores 304 – A Far Cry From Kingdom Hearts 3

This week Alex hosts, which means that you can expect brilliant segues and at least one BioShock reference.  With Mark and Stephen helping to navigate the latest video game news, we’ve got you covered on all the facts and stories that you need to know.  For instance, did you know that Sony Computer Entertainment needs to green-light a Heavenly Sword sequel?  Fact.

Early 2018 won’t lack heavy hitters.  Before the end of spring, Ubisoft will release Far Cry 5, and 2K Games will ship Red Dead Redemption 2.  While both games have evoked palpable excitement, Red Dead Redemption 2, a long-awaited sequel from Rockstar Games, has no doubt created a larger stir.  Red Dead Redemption 2 has been delayed; however, as always, 2K Games releases games when they are fit to sell.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Marvel Heroes Omega, Marvel’s Guardian’s of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series, Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy VII Remake.

Trophy Whores 303 – More Rangers Jokes than a Senators Bar

We don’t dislike the New York Rangers; however, Tricky talks a lot of trash, so when his team takes a nosedive in the playoffs, you know that he will catch hell.  Guest host Stephen, also a Rangers fan, weathers the storm as best he can, but, like being tossed around in an F5 tornado, it’s a rough ride — much like the Rangers second-round series against the Ottawa Senators.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Abzu, South Park: The Fractured But Whole, Ghost Recon: Wildlands and Lego Marvel Superheroes 2.

Unsurprisingly, Warner Bros. Interactive and and Traveler’s Tales have announced Lego Marvel Superheroes 2, a follow-up to, in Alex’s opinion, the best Lego video game.  After spending ages developing Lego Star Wars games, Traveler’s Tales seems intent to release 20,000 games starring Marvel and DC Comics characters.  So, 20,000 is probably an exaggerated number; however, it’s difficult to argue that Traveler’s Tales isn’t making the most of their licensing deals.

Trophy Whores 299 – Beauty and the PAX East

While Tricky and Troy are cruising the show floor at PAX East 2017, the triumphant trophy-touting trio of Mark, Alex and Yield discuss the biggest PlayStation news to emanate from Boston.  Although the original Penny Arcade Expo, PAX Prime, has spawned annual sister shows, and dropped its “Prime” moniker, seemingly lessening the impact of each convention, it’s always exciting to read the news that breaks at each show, as well as the games that appear.  If you are a gamer, and if you’re reading this, we assume that you are, then you’re never sorry to talk about a PAX.

In response to popular demand, Mark, otherwise known as Lucia, also known as the ionvein, hosts episode 299 and leads us through all of the hottest news in the PlayStation ecosystem.  Guerrilla Games’ Horizon Zero dawns remains a hot topic, as Aloy and her grand adventure continue to win the hearts and praise of the gaming community.  Horizon Zero Dawn is a magnificent game, and it, as well as Guerrilla Games, deserves all of the praise it has received.  You can’t celebrate the game without praising its makers, Guerrilla Games.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Horizon Zero Dawn, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, Friday the 13th: The Game and Diablo III.

In a bit of big, big news, Trophy Whores has been approved for iHeartRadio, which greatly expands the show’s footprint and reach. Trophy Whores 288 – Army Of T-Rex’s

That is a mouthful.  That’s what Tricky said.  I couldn’t resist.  Tricky loves Wendy’s chicken parmesan sandwiches.  Truly, to Tricky, it might as well be filet mignon.  Have you seen a man stick an entire sandwich in his mouth?  It isn’t for the faint of heart.  We can’t unhinge our jaws like snakes.  I’m surprised that there isn’t a snake villain creeping around Gotham City.

This week, the inmates run the asylum.  Technically, Alex runs the asylum, since Tricky has to drive around New York City in a snow plow.  Unfortunately, for him, we spend a large portion of the show talking about all things Dark Knight.  Yes, the one and only Batman.  Otherwise known as the only DC Comics superhero worth a damn.  I need to stop there before Metropolis’ legion of fanboys descends upon Trophy Whores studios like a hurricane of wasps.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Extra Life,  The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, Gotham, Batman Arkham, and Batman: The Telltale Series.

Trophy Whores 286 – Octagonal Kiwami

This week, Tricky does his best to spit on the Engilsh language.  Tricky lectures people on the correct pronunciation of “mozzarella,” but as soon as he tries to say, “octagonal,” he stumbles through the word like a drunk rampaging through a Waffle House at two in the morning.

Episode 286, which brings us another week closer to our stupendous 300th show, marks the first time that the five illustrious and talented Trophy Whores record simultaneously.  Given our busy lifestyles, it’s quite an achievement — especially with a WWE special presentation, Tables, Ladders and Chairs 2016, on tap for the evening. The gang is all here, and we’re ready to dish on the latest news from the PlayStation Experience.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, LEGO Worlds, The Last of Us 2, Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, Rocket League, Yakuza 6, Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy: The Telltale Series.

Telltale Games has shown that they are capable of doing excellent work with popular licensed comic and film properties, we expect nothing less from their version of Guardians of the Galaxy.  Though largely unknown until a few years ago, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy grabbed mainstream attention when James Gunn’s movie adaptation lit the silver screen on fire and earned Marvel Studios a spaceship full of cash.  With endearing oddball characters who look out for the safety of the universe, it’s hard not to root for the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Trophy Whores 285 – Get the Towels Ready

It’s Alex’s first show back from a lengthy hiatus, and the Trophy Whores have already discussed — at length — the classic 8-bit Mega Man series.  Alex wouldn’t have it any other way — especially if everyone agrees that Mega Man 3 is the best game in the original series.  Tricky argues for Mega Man 4, and while he might have questionable taste in video games, his argument lends credence to the power of nostalgia.  You’ll smile when you hear to what lengths Tricky went to stay up (past his bedtime) and play Mega Man 4.

Lucia sits out this week, probably because he is disgusted with Tricky’s passion for Mega Man 4, as well as The Division, but even with four hosts, the Trophy Whores record for nearly three hours.  What can you do with three hours?  Listen to this episode, silly.  You can also take a long-ass nap, but we’re talking video games, and you want in on that action.  When a podcast starts with heavy amounts of the Blue Bomber and professional wrestling, then you know that things are going to run long.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End, Extra Life, Black Friday, The Walking Dead: A New Frontier, Horizon: Zero Dawn, and Titanfall 2.

With the Game Awards approaching, the Trophy Whores try to predict the winners for two categories: Game of the Year and Most-Anticipated Game.  Per usual, every nominee deserves recognition and praise; however, among the Trophy Whores, Uncharted 4, Overwatch and Horizon take top billing.

Guardians Of The Galaxy Being Developed by Telltale Games

Almost two years after Telltale Games announced a Marvel game was in the making, it looks like the cat, or should should we say raccoon has gotten out of the bag. An image of a list of games still in development after the voice actor strike has made its way online. About halfway down the list, the title “Guardians Of The Galaxy a/k/a Blue Harvest”. Although the game is being credited to “O’Farrell Enterprises, LLC”,  the same company is listed with the third season of “The Walking Dead”, one of the most popular of the Telltale Franchises.

game

When a Marvel game was announced to be in development, the game was set for a 2017 release date. With this year wrapping up quickly, expect more news on the upcoming title sooner rather than later.

Trophy Whores 273 – Segues Destroyed by Soup

Previously on Trophy Whores, Donny said goodbye to Proven Gamer, Lucia joined the show as the fourth official host, and Tricky introduced the headlock-loving Smart Marks, Jeremy and Matt.

You know, that really doesn’t work when you can’t wow the audience with flashy, colorful video clips and a fancy voice-over guy with a sultry voice.  Well, you don’t know unless you try.  That doesn’t give you the green light to do something stupid.  I can tell you that melted wax has no business in the garbage disposal.

This week, Yield returns to wreak awesome, and we discuss news from PAX West 2016.  PAX shows are always good for news, as developers and publishers shovel information into our mouths like we’re pigs at a feeding trough.  And we enjoy video games, so we’ll always be ready to open wide.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Shovel Knight, PlayStation Plus, The Walking Dead, Overwatch, and Batman: The Telltale Series.

Alex has a special shout-out.  On September 16, at Gallery K on Barret Avenue in Louisville, his friend Avalon is holding an art gallery for the first part of the survivor modeling project, This is MY Body, which features sexual assault survivors.  Through this event, these brave women hope to reclaim their bodies and raise sexual assault awareness by speaking out against a pervasive problem in our country.  Admission is free.  Magazine copies featuring the models and photographs will be sold at the show, and the profits will be donated to the Center for Women and Families.  The gallery will be open from 5 pm to 10 pm.  It will be a fantastic event, and if possible, you should go.

Trophy Whores 269 – Tricky’s Division From Reality

We’ve often teased Tricky about his passion for The Division.  We’re not saying that it’s a terrible game, but if Tricky champions it with an unmatched fervor, then we’re going to take our shots.  Unfortunately, for Tricky, our wicked squad of ardent trophy hunters has grown by two people for episode 269.

Even if you change your name, Antisocial Gamer, you will always be NMReign.  As with that bespectacled, stripe-shirted scamp, Waldo, we see past your tricks and lies.  Reign, you can brandish a fancy new name, but it doesn’t erase your villainous past.  We know your game: You hunt Trophy Whores.

We’re relying on the Ionvein to keep us safe.  With a name like that, Lucia has to be some sort of superhero.  How else could he fly in and steal our listeners’ hearts?  Unless … he’s a witch!  Is he?  No.  No, he can’t be.  Witches play games on the Xbox One.

This week the Trophy Whores test their luck, as they welcome to the show — for the second week in a row — the infamous, dangerous and ingenious Troy.  He’s like Freddy Krueger — except he attacks you while you podcast.  Podcast dreamworld is a dangerous place, with hordes of Xbox owners and the Trophy Whores killer mucking about.  There’s trouble to be found if you travel down the wrong alleys.  Donny ventured down the alleys of Black Velvetopia, and he bought Psychonauts for the PlayStation 4!  Donny bemoans the prevalence of remasters, remakes and ports.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Batman: The Telltale Series, Indigo Prophecy, No Man’s Sky and Suicide Squad.  Critics have largely panned Warner Bros.’ Suicide Squad, but it made an impressive, record-breaking amount of money in its opening weekend.  If nothing else, Suicide Squad proves that people don’t listen to critics.  Suicide Squad might be polarizing, but if you’re a fan of the villainous team and its components, then go see the movie and decide for yourself.

Trophy Whores 267 – Sibling Rivalry Renewed

Tricky, who has been absent from the show for three weeks, makes his return to Trophy Whores.  As much as the Trophy Whores tease Tricky, they have missed him.  Trophy Whores isn’t the same without Tricky — or any other host.  Lucia, the Ionvein, tags along.

The Trophy Whores, who are short Yield, dive into a swimming pool of chicanery.  It’s a scorcher of a summer, and everyone is trying to beat the heat.  Tricky and Donny can’t get through 20 minutes without renewing their sibling rivalry, which means that Trophy Whores has again achieved homeostasis.

San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing, and Lucia is our reporter on the ground.  Well, he has been to Comic-Con, and we think that counts.  We’re pretty sure that he has seen things related to comics, movies and video games.  The Justice League trailer appeared debuted at Comic-Con, and, unfortunately, Martian Manhunter was nowhere to be seen.  It’s nice to see Cyborg on the screen, but without Martian Manhunter, it doesn’t feel like a true Justice League movie.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Minecraft: Story Mode, Injustice 2, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Sonic Mania.  It’s 2016, and, depending upon whom you ask, Sonic’s relevance and viability are dubious.  If this were 1992, then Sonic would be battling Mario for mascot supremacy.  Unfortunately, for Sega and Sonic, the hedgehog’s popularity has dried up like a slug on blacktop in August.

Trophy Whores 266 – No Man’s Remake

If you like caped crusaders and tomb-raiding badasses, then we have good news:  Tricky isn’t on this episode.  Tricky continues to sip margaritas by the community pool, as the Trophy Whores, Alex, Donny and Yield, run the show so deep into the ground that they’re liable to strike oil.  The Trophy Whores haven’t found black gold yet, but they’re rich in opinions that only a mother could love.

This week the Trophy Whores do their best swan dives into a pool of Batman and Tomb Raider news.  No Man’s Sky makes an appearance, too, for the second week in a row, but you might feel a little awkward and unprepared if you aren’t wearing a cape or dual-wielding pistols.  You might be MacGyver, but you can’t save Gotham or survive ancient tombs without the proper equipment, and Duct tape doesn’t meet every need.  I said it.

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Batman: A Telltale Game Series, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Batman: Return to Arkham and No Man’s Sky.  Donny, as you might know, isn’t keen on developers spending their time remastering and remaking games.  Instead, he wants new intellectual properties and new ideas.  Donny memes have popped up on the Trophy Whores and Remember the Loot Facebook pages, and Proven Gamer would like to share the best one with you.  Take in the magnificence and majesty of Donny:

I would also like to point out that Tricky, who made this meme, spells as well as badger wearing oven mitts.  Psychonauts is the game.

Trophy Whores 261 – Sophie’s Trophies

This week we have a momentous show.  We often have guests, but this week is special.  Superfan Sid, or Sidders1978, as well as his significant other, Mandy, join the show.  Sid is a longtime Trophy Whores listener, and he wrote the podcast with a poignant and personal story that touched every single member of the show.  In a landmark and emotional moment for the show, Tricky reads the email on the show in its entirety.  To be honest, the fellas are all superfans of Sid and Mandy.

Ionvein, again, runs with the preeminent PlayStation wolf pack.  Given Lucia’s streak of appearances, we should probably make him an officially unofficial Trophy Whore.  While the Trophy Whores aren’t recruiting any new permanent hosts, Lucia’s contributions to the show can’t be denied, and he brings the heat in this week’s discussion of the Electronic Entertainment Expo — better known as E3.

The Trophy Whores play soothsayers this week, as they make their E3 predictions.  As usual, they are keeping score; however, this year, Ionvein/Lucia/Mark joins the dogfight.  It will be a cutthroat battle for E3 guesstimating supremacy, so get your scorecards out!

Join the Trophy Whores as they discuss, among other things, Injustice 2: Gods Among, Watch Dogs 2, Devil May Cry, Street Fighter V, Titanfall 2 and Agents of Mayhem.  Agents of Mayhem is the new game from Volition, the makers of the popular Saints Row series of sandbox crime games.  Jeff Hanna, an occasional guest on Trophy Whores, has his hands in that kiln.  Based solely on its name, Agents of Mayhem will draw attention and intrigue.  While that’s not much to go off of, Volition always does solid work, and history has shown that they can, if nothing else, make over-the-top action games that people love to play.
