[Rumor] – April 2018 NPD: Playstation 4 Sells More Units Than The Competition Combined

According to a thread on Reset Era, it looks like God of War gave a mighty boost to the Playstation 4 sales for the month of April. According to the supposed leak, and after some math that I will never understand, the PS4 topped around 364,000 units, with Switch at around 171,000 units and the X-Box One trailing at 134,000 units. Magipork has the leak below:
“The relative sales volumes of game hardware was:
PS4: 1.92
Switch: 1
XBox One: 0.79
3DS: 0.41″
While this is firmly in the “grain of salt” territory, it would not be a shock to see God of War provide such a boost in sales. We look forward to seeing official NPD Numbers on Tuesday. Stay tunes here on Proven Gamer for more information.

Runbow PS4 & Switch Release Delayed

Runbow has been delayed, with no new release date announced. According to the press release earlier today, Runbow needed to be delayed to ensure the games quality. We should have more information on the release date in the next couple of weeks. Read a portion of the press release below:

Düren, April 20th 2018 – The colorful racing chaos of award-winning party game Runbow will be postponed for some weeks in order to further optimize the game’s performance.

Headup Games and 13AM Games deeply apologize to everyone who’s already looking forward excitedly to play it, but in order to feature the highest quality possible, Runbow needed to be delayed for PlayStation®Store and Nintendo eShop. But rest assured – it’s just a matter of weeks. You will get the newest date, as soon as it is set.

The same may apply to the retail Runbow Deluxe Edition, due to the digital shift this date will probably shift back a bit as well. The Deluxe Edition will include all DLCs and nice physical goodies.

Proven Thoughts: Runbow is a chaotic mess of fun and could be one of the best couch co-op experiences on PS4 & Switch. With the Switch version boasting 8 player couch co-op I cannot WAIT to get my hands on that version.

When Is It Time For Sony To Unveil the Playstation 5?

Sony’s Playstation 4 is entering year-five of its release the public and as of now maintains an unwavering stranglehold on the console gaming market. With sales more than double that of its closest competition – Microsoft’s Xbox One – Sony and Playstation 4 have shown no signs of slowing down…or so it would seem. 2017 was a stellar year for the Playstation 4, but it was also the year its holidays sales showed signs of slowing for the first time since launch. While one would argue that the slight dip in numbers can be attributed to the runway success that is the Nintendo Switch (and to a lesser extent the release of the Xbox One X), is it time for Sony to start thinking about the next iteration of the Playstation? Or should the gaming powerhouse play the long game and respond what its competitors are up to?

In the fall of 2017, Microsoft launched the Xbox One X –  touting it as the most powerful console ever made. As true as that statement may be, Sony and the PS4 don’t appear to be too impacted – if at all – by a more powerful console on the market aside from a slight dip in sales during the 2017 holiday season. On the Big N’s side of things, the Nintendo Switch has officially outsold its predecessor’s lifetime sales and continues to sell like gangbusters, even tripling PS4’s sales numbers in its first year in Japan. While there is cause for a growing concern in Sony’s camp, one can argue that the PS4 has more than enough fuel in its tank to come out ahead of its competition.

Sony recently confirmed that Days Gone – a title which was thought to be released this year – would be pushed back to 2019, making Sony’s 2018-2019 release calendar a little more clear. 2018 is already shaping up to the another landmark year Playstation gamers with releases like Dissidia: Final Fantasy NT and the critically acclaimed Shadow of the Colossus remake leading the the 1st-Party charge. Sony’s library was further bolstered in the early months of the year with a number of 3rd-Party titles such as Dragon Ball FighterZ and Monster Hunter World attributing most of their sales on Sony’s platform. But that is just the beginning.  April will bring God of War, May will deliver Detroit: Become Human, and if my spider-sense is accurate, Insomniac’s highly anticipated Spider-Man will be out before the year’s end as well. And let’s not forget about Dreams, a title which looks to take the best parts of LittleBigPlanet and truly allow the player to let their creativity run wild.  Those heavy-hitters signify the strength of the Playstation brand and will to push more and more PS4 consoles into people’s homes.

While Nintendo is no stranger to the 1st-Party game, its main shots have already been fired with Super Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild launching in the Switch’s first year. Although, the recent announcement of Super Smash Brothers coming to Switch in 2018 will certainly help sway the pendulum a bit in Nintendo’s favor, especially if the game ends up being more than a port of the Wii U/3DS version. That just leaves Microsoft. While it may have a beast of a console, it doesn’t have much to offer in terms of a diverse library. Yes, the the higher resolution patches and the growing number to its backwards-compatible library are a good thing for its existing users, but Xbox One has yet to unveil a system-seller title. Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 seem to be getting a lot of buzz but Crackdown 3, however, appears to be nothing more than a fart in the wind. One has to wonder what Microsoft is hiding up its sleeve. 2018 may be a lock for Ps4’s continued success but 2019 may just be a the most critical year for Sony since the launch of Playstation 4.

By the time we raise a glass of champagne to 2019, the 6th year of the PS4’s stellar life will be upon us. With Days Gone slipping into 2019, will its release also be accompanied by the likes of Last of Us Part II and Death Stranding? My hunch tells me no, as TLoU II and Days Gone may be too similar and may inadvertently cannibalize each other.., honestly, Days Gone wouldn’t stand a chance. The Last of Us II is likely to be a 2020 title and Death Stranding? I wouldn’t count on seeing that game released prior to 2020 either. It is possible that TLoU II and Death Stranding are the swan songs of the PS4 generation in the same way that TLoU was the swan song of the PS3 generation. The argument can be made that a 2019 reveal and 2020 release of the PS5 is possible, but I think a 2020 reveal at E3 and March 2021 release might be the better decision. The Nintendo Switch releasing in March was able to stave off the supply and demand issues they have had in the past when releasing in November. Playstation hasn’t had those problems before, but it is an interesting strategy to take nonetheless.

The Top 5 Playstation Titles Bluepoint Games Should Remake Next

With the recent remake of Shadow of Colossus being met with overwhelming critical acclaim and capturing the hearts of an entirely new generation of players, many are left wondering: where does Bluepoint Games go from here?  While many are eager for the Austin-based developer to shed its ‘master of remasters’ title and create an original work of their own, I would argue that Bluepoint Games should continue to do what it does best. And so, here are the Top 5 Playstation Titles Bluepoint Games should consider remaking.

5) Metal Gear Solid

So, Konami…how’s uh…Metal Gear Survive working out for you? Oh, not so great, huh? Well, perhaps what you need to do is try to get back in good graces with the gaming community. What better way to do that than to remake the title that propelled Solid Snake into stardom: Metal Gear Solid.Bluepoint already did a Metal Gear Solid HD Collection, so they know the series intimately. Let’s face it, the Fox Engine was destined for more than just a zombie-horde multiplayer mess. Speaking of things Konami messed up…

4) Silent Hill

Damn you, P.T.! Why did you have to be so good? WHY DID YOU GET MY HOPES UP, KONAMI!? For those of you not in “the know”, P.T. a.k.a “Playable Trailer” (nobody calls it that), was a teaser for Silent Hills, a Silent Hill sequel with the potential to completely reinvent the franchise. It was to be a collaboration between Hideo Kojima and Guillermo Del Toro. Needless to say, people lost their damn minds over the possibilities. Well, Konami ran Kojima out of town and Silent Hills was forever lost to the mist. Sure, we now have Death Stranding to look forward to, but Silent Hill has been neglected for years now (and no, Pachinko Games DON’T COUNT!).  A recreation of the original, terrifying Silent Hill would be a spectacular way to make up for the Silent Hills fiasco.

3) Driver

Released back in 1999 for the PS1, Driver was a complete game changer for the genre; it set an incredibly high bar for story driven, high octane driving. Spread across four distinct cities, Driver’s insane chase sequences and ground-breaking physics made it a must-have title for Playstation owners. While Driver received a minor face-lift when it was ported to iOS  in 2009, it was hardly worth of such a watershed title in Playstation history. Bluepoint Games can completely redesign the cities from the ground up, making them bigger and more realistic worlds to explore. Is there a place for this series in such a crowded driving landscape? Maybe not, but nostalgia alone might be worth the investment.

2) Dark Cloud

Dark Cloud is a long time favorite game of my Nintendo Duel Screen’s Co-host, Stephen Fontana. He asked me to add it to the list, but he really didn’t have to do much convincing. Dark Cloud was an incredibly deep dungeon crawling RPG with an insane weapon crafting mechanic. Throw in an adorable town building mechanic and funny/unique characters and you got yourself a recipe for a classic action-rpg. A sequel was released a couple of years later and both games were touched up and given trophy support last year on PSN, but a full fledged Bluepoint Games remake is incredibly enticing.

1) Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

Released in 1999 for the Sony Playstation 1Crystal Dynamics’ tale of a vampire turned specter was met with critical acclaim. Fans have been clamoring for a remake/reboot for years now. And given that Crystal Dynamics is hard at work its Avengers Project, Bluepoint Games would be a logical second choice to helm the franchise reboot and reintroduce Raziel and Kain to the world.

Why you should be playing Dead Cells

Developer Motion Twin has been making video games since about 2001 but if you’re not part of their self-described “Anti-social Network” Twinoid You may have absolutely no idea they even exist. Almost all of their games, aside from Dead Cells, can be played for free after signing up. I tried out a few of the games including MUSH, Die2Nite, and DinoRPG. Some are homages to beloved franchises. Others are wholly unique. While none of them really sank their hooks into me, almost all of them are indicative of one thing: The name Motion Twin will eventually be synonymous with greatness in the world of indie games.

All this history brings us to Dead Cells. Motion Twin’s Steam Debut is one hell of a “Hello” to the indie games scene and I’m gonna give you a few reasons I think you should give it a go.

Combat Savvy

 

Let’s start off with the combat. It is by far the #1 reason you should be playing Dead Cells. It’s frantic, tactical, and fluid all at once. As you play through the game you’ll pick up blueprints for a bevy of weapons and items that you can unlock using cells dropped from all the enemies you will inevitably slaughter. The combination of swords, shields, bows, skills and other gadgets is almost endless. You have four slots to fill, two of which can be filled with either a melee, ranged weapon, or shield. The other two are where your skills go. Each run (trust me there will be many) will have you balancing new strategies depending on what drops, power-ups, and skills you encounter. Weapons and Items are broken down into three, conveniently color-coded, combat styles: Brutality, Tactical, and survivability. These three styles eventually are tied into a series of perks like “Killing an enemy gives you X health” or “Shortens the cooldown on your skills by X%.” Building up one of these three styles with whatever power-ups you get is just one part of a larger synergistic combat system.

Every item you pick up has a chance to have an “Affix.” These range from just additional damage to things like “Does 125% damage against a bleeding target” or “Enemies killed with this weapon explode into a cloud of poison gas.” Using these affixes to build synergistic builds is not only key in succeeding in Dead Cells but maliciously fun. Curating a build well can lead to some absolutely vicious combinations.

Once you’re savvy enough, and if RNGsus is on your side, you could end up in a situation like the following: A group of enemies are in front of you. In your main weapon slot you have a sword that does 100% damage against a burning target. In your secondary slot you have Firebrands. In your first skill slot you have Oil grenades and in your second Skill slot you have a Deploy-able turret that causes it’s victims to drop a swarm of bitters. You open the salvo by throwing your Oil Grenade, this douses anybody unlucky enough to be in the blast radius with a Flammable oil that enhances the effects of any fire weapon. After they’re drenched in oil you throw the fire brand and it lights up the ground and any enemy in the immediate area. The enemies covered in oil take extra damage from the fire. They are roasting up real good. You deploy your turret and then move in to attack with your sword. Every swing is eviscerating any foe that happens to be covered in flames, as they die a swarm of bitters crawls out of their corpse thanks to the turret you put down. The bitters help with taking on the rest of the hoard. Before long, everything is dead and you’re left standing

.

Situations like this are the norm in Dead Cells. It is full of these frenetic bursts of action that have kept me coming back time after time.

Developers with ears and sensible progression

 

There are a ton of rouge-lite/likes out there all with their own take on how progression should work. Games like The Binding of Isaac are notorious for peeling back new layers of the game as you progress through. New floors and unlocks tied to them; new bosses and enemies. Dead Cells presents a similar path. As you progress through several runs (if you’re like me this will be in the hundreds before you unlock everything) you’ll unlock runes that allow you to access new areas. Each new area contains its own brand of new fearsome foes to fight and generally contain a higher tier of blueprints than areas you’ve already been in.

What’s more interesting is that opportunities to use runes that you’ve yet to unlock present themselves in almost every area of the game. So in addition to unlocking whole new areas, the runes also allow players to access even more parts of existing areas. These offshoots usually contain extra weapons or power-ups that would have been otherwise inaccessible and can sometimes help a ton at the beginning of a run.

Currently there are 5 runes in Dead Cells, but since the games debut on Steam, Motion Twin have added more than a few runes, areas, weapons, and enemies. I would be surprised if this didn’t continue till release and after. Especially considering how much Dead Cells has changed since its debut. Motion Twin has regularly posted developer logs and communicated with the community. The base three-colored system I mentioned above was entirely different on first release and has been changed with some further development by listening to the community. A look at their developer blog is proof of that. They even list changes as “Community suggestion.”

I think it’s important to support developers who support the community around their games. In a time where sometimes it feels like the developers never listen (looking at Bungie), it’s nice to know that some devs do have ears.

Intricate Pixel Art and Level Design

 

This last one will be short but man, this is one good looking game. If I had any friends that thought pixel art couldn’t be gorgeous, I would very likely show them Dead Cells. Multi-Layered backgrounds haven’t looked this good since parallax scrolling was invented.

Alright, maybe I’m being a bit hyperbolic, but seriously, Dead Cells is easy on the eyes. For the amount of carnage that can be happening on screen at any minute, everything is easily defined and readable. Every weapon or enemy attack animation is fluid and incredibly well designed. You can really see and feel the weightless slash of the Balanced Blade vs the slow brutal smash of The Nutcracker. The level of detail really brings out the character in every new monster you meet.

Every new area looks and feels completely different.

The Toxic Sewers are claustrophobic and soaked in whatever unspeakable sludge ends up there, the Ramparts are far reaching lofty towers, and the Ossuary feels darkly demonic. Every single area in the game has its own unique and well defined character. I would go as far to say that the style and flair in this game is almost unparalleled currently. It is really beautiful to see in motion and shows how much Motion Twin care.

Play this game!

 

I can’t stress enough how much fun I’ve had with Dead Cells. It can be brutal and frustrating, but every run is different and exciting. The seemingly limitless combination of weapons and skills and the deliciously vicious synergies of everything coming together is truly remarkable. Motion Twin seems dedicated to the community that’s surrounded the game and is breathing life into it. If you’re a fan of metroidvanias, this is a no brainer. If you’re a fan of Rogue-likes, this is a no brainer. If you enjoy hacking and/or slashing on any level, this is a no brainer. Luckily for you non-PC savvy folks Motion Twin said they’re bringing Dead Cells to all major consoles this year! I can’t wait to rock it on my Switch!

The Potential Dangers of the Ever-Growing Nintendo Switch Indie Scene

When it comes to quality, indie game titles can be something of a mixed bag (am looking at you, Troll and I). But when it comes to the Nintendo Switch, however, it’s hard to deny the incredible amount of high-quality titles that have been overrunning the platform as of late. It started off with Golf Story – a title which charmed the pants off of me. And now, the critically acclaimed likes of Cat Quest, Night in the Woods, Dandara, Gonner, Owlboy, Super Meat Boy, Celeste, Enter the Gungeon, and countless others like it, can be found on the eShop.

It comes as no surprise as Nintendo went out of its way to create the Nindies, a showcase event meant to highlight indie titles headed to the Switch. But with an ever-expanding library of quality indie games coming to the Switch, could Nintendo become suddenly inundated with titles that are less than award-worthy, and perhaps even garbage-tier?  As more developers may look to cash-in on the Switch’s massive success, is a rush of sub-par content imminent on Nintendo’s darling portable-console hybrid?

When Sony announced the Playstation 4, it was done so alongside a huge emphasis on indie titles. The PS4 was to be all about games, a sentiment which seemed to be a complete 180° pivot from the previous generation’s bravado. A quick glance at the Playstation Store confirms that Sony has made good on its promise – currently 900+ indie titles can be found on the PS4’s digital shop. NINE. HUNDRED. And 575 of those titles – at least as of November 2017 – are exclusive to the Playstation 4. The sheer volume of  games available to the consumer is staggering and even a little daunting. While I can’t fault Sony for making good on its promise of more games, the PS4’s indie offerings don’t even appear to be properly curated. As a consumer, having to wade through a waist-deep pile of trash just to get to something of value is a huge issue. Fortunately for Nintendo, and ultimately the consumer, the solution to a would-be problem might be easier than anticipated.

On the flip side of Sony’s flood of questionable indie titles is Steam. Currently there are 1,000 titles under the “New and Trending” tab alone. Now you might wonder, ‘how can anyone decipher what is worth purchasing in a shop with so much to offer? The answer appears to be a community regulated curation with Steam Curator. Steam, being a fairly open publishing platform, is a great platform for new developers to launch their games; it just makes sense given how community driven the service is. But where does that leave Nintendo? I don’t trust a company that uses Friends Codes to put together a comprehensive, community-driven curation system. What option remains?

There was a time when Nintendo branded quality with its very own seal of approval. It signaled to the consumer that you were making a smart purchase, but given the scale of the booming independent gaming market, there is clear cause for concern. One only has to look at the video game crash of 1983 to see the obvious dangers of low quality titles flooding the marketplace; brand loyalty goes right out the window the moment the consumer base feels ripped off. The Big N was able to remedy this by making use of the Nintendo Seal of Approval. Now that the classic seal is gone and with the eShop apparently releasing indie games with every other heartbeat, the eShop may become a Steam 2.0.

To be fair, I am all for indie game developers being able to release their games on the Switch without a whole lot of red tape. And as I stated earlier the Switch has been host to some of the most enjoyable indie experiences of my gaming career with tons to look forward to in 2018 (HOLLOW KNIGHT!!). I play a whole lot of indie games and talk about them weekly on Nintendo Duel Screens. However, I fear for the day when the likes of I Am Mayo or god forbid Energy Cycle make their way to the front page of the eShop. Having an incredible selection of indie titles to round out the Switch’s library in-between AAA releases like Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey is vital to the platform’s success. Dropping bombs like Party Planet and Acorn Tactics is not doing Nintendo any favors. If Nintendo isn’t careful, it may just end up bringing back that Seal of Approval. I just hope for Nintendo’s sake, that Nintendo brings the seal back because it wants to, and not because it has to.

Trophy Whores 331 – Gods of War Rocket Up the Download Charts

Alex and Roberto help ring in the new year by looking back at 2017 and forward to 2018.  Like two killer whales at Sea World, they’re itching to frolic in the deep blue ocean of video games that promise an exciting 2018.

Better yet, we’re getting at least one more God of War game before the series pays homage to “The Fonz” and goes airborne over a particularly dangerous aquatic predator.  It’s a shark.  Sony Santa Monica is dangerously close to jumping the shark, and Alex proposes that maybe Kratos should ride off into the sunset after his latest adventure.

Firewall announced with teaser at PSX

Sony announced competitive VR game Firewall at the beginning of the PSX conference. A tactical VR shooter exclusive to Playstation. Firewall will support the PSVR Aim controller.

Spelunky 2 Announced

The cave diving, Rope Climbing, Jet-pack Flying Rouge like is coming back with a sequel. Spelunky 2 was announced today for PS4 and confirmed to also be releasing on PC. If the original is any indication it’ll make its way to every platform under the sun eventually. Not many details were dropped about the sequel but it looks like you’ll be playing the daughter of the protagonist in the original Spelunky.

Follow a game that helped bring Rouge-likes to into the spotlight, Spelunky 2 has some big shoes to fill. Here’s hoping it delivers. I’m looking forward to seeing more of this in the near future. Check out the teaser trailer below.

PlayStation Paris Game Week 2017

PlayStation Paris Game Week 2017 has started and we go an insight of all the games that are coming out this year and in 2018. There were games that made their world debut during the Press Conference along with some PlayStation VR games that are coming out. Some of the games that were shown in the Press Conference we have seen when Sony showed us at E3 this year.

The games that will be making their world debut for PlayStation are The Hong Kong Masacre, The Gardens Between, Loco Roco 2 Remastered Pre-order now available on (12/9/17), Sims 4 and Tennis World Tour coming out in 2018. The PSVR Highlights are Resident Evil Biohazard Gold Edition, Star Trek, Far Point and Super Hot are now out on PSVR.

Two PSVR games that made their world debut at the Paris Games Week for PlayStation are MEgalith that is an action pack shooter game and Bow to Blood. Some of the PSVR games that are out already for you to play are Resident Evil Biohazard Gold Edition with addition free content Not a Hero, Star Trek: Bridge Crew, Super Hot and Far Point. New games that will be coming out in 2018 are UltraWings, Sprint Vector, Moss is being released on VR in February 2018, Invector and Star Child. Two games that will be released on Halloween for PSVR are Dead Hungry and Stifled.
Two games will be released in November, they are League of War will be released on 11/7/17 and Final Fantasy XV will be released on 11/21/17 Monster of the Deep which is a stand a lone game and in December Episode of Ignis will be released on the 13th of December of this year.

Oure (pronounced oh-re), is a game that you explore as a child who turns into a dragon. The game is release 10/30/17 in the PlayStation store.

Games that will be released to PlayStation 4 in 2018 are: Spluenky 2, Ghost of Tsushima, Concrete Genie and Erica.

Summon Night 6 Coming October 31st for PS4 and Vita

For those craving a JRPG, California-based Gaijinworks have announced a firm release date for their highly anticipated localized release of Summon Night 6.  The game arrives in the United States on October 31st for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita, with the game arriving shortly after in European territories.

The news comes after Summon Night 6 faced several delays in the localization process. Originally slated for release in September, there have been a variety of 11th hour production issues that have occurred.

For those unfamilair with the franchise, Summon Night is a fantasy JRPG franchise that has spanned 15 years across a multitude of systems, including the PlayStation and Nintendo DS. Taking place in the fictional land of Lyndbaum, players embark on a quest of love, action, and courage through a steampunk setting, featuring multiple kingdoms, species, and epic battles. Battles take place on a strategy grid and feature a variety of close-range and long-range weapons. Below, we share Gaijinworks’ full description of Summon Night 6.

“Released in Japan as a celebration of the series’ 15th anniversary, Summon Night 6: Lost Borders offers gorgeous widescreen graphics presented in high definition, a first for the series. The fully 3-D battle system allows Chain Attacks that happen automatically when an enemy is surrounded by two or more allies; in these situations, each ally can hit the enemy without risk of counterattack. In addition to the Summons that are a hallmark of the series, two allies can team up for a breathtaking “Summon Burst” attack that invokes a devastating magical strike from one of many giant fantastical creatures.

Summon Night 6 also features Cross-Save. If you have the PlayStation®Vita andPlayStation®4 versions, you can move your save between them using the cloud, so the game can be played on the big screen at home, and on the small screen on-the-go!

Payday 2 Take to the Battlefield in RAID: WWII

World War games are making quite a comeback lately, with the release of games like Call Of Duty: WWII and Wolfenstein: The New Colossus, as well as Battlefield 1, which deals with World War I. Payday developer, Starbreeze Studios, looks to follow the trend of old-fashioned gunplay with Raid: WWII.  The game takes the Payday formula into the gritty fields of the European Front.

Experienced players of Payday and Payday 2 will be familiar with the overall mechanics of the game: tight, frenzied shooting mechanics and multitude of enemies. Players are part of a squad recruited by British Intelligence, but instead of going the normal route of fighting the good fight, your team goes through more unconventional routes, including sabotage, robberies and assassinations. Players need to work together if they are to survive and successfully win the battle.

Sony Releases Gran Turismo Sport Alongside New Trailer

For the first time in four years, Gran Turismo, PlayStation’s flagship racing simulator, has returned for a  whole new generation in the form of Gran Turismo Sport. Seen as the beginning of a new age for the franchise and its fans, Gran Turismo Sport will feature the fine-tuned, polished balance between realism and accessibility.

For decades, the series was known for bringing an extreme amount of realism and depth to its visuals, as each car was painstakingly photographed and scanned into the game. Additionally, players had a variety of customization and tailoring options for each car from brake calipers to transmission intervals.

Gran Turismo Sport, while not a full numbered installment, will still feature a bevy of content, which includes 177 cars and 27 configurations of 19 tracks, with more content to be added later. This also includes a refined online mode for competition.  To celebrate the launch, Sony has released the television commercial that will accompany the game’s launch this week.

The commercial encompasses the legacy of Gran Turismo, showing gameplay footage from one of the very first games on the first PlayStation, as well as Gran Turismo 3 on the PlayStation 2. With Gran Turismo Sport, Polyphony Digital understand where they come from and where they are now, facing stiff competition from other racing games, like Namco Bandai’s Project Cars 2, Ubisoft’s The Crew 2, and Microsoft’s Forza 6 Motorsport. With that, Gran Turismo Sport is looking to pave the road into the future.

Gran Turismo Sport is now available for PlayStation 4.

Ambitious PS4 + PSVR Title Megaton Rainfall Now Available

Everyone has always wanted to be Superman, but let’s face it, the Man Of Steel hasn’t had a good video game in decades. Imagine that wasn’t the case, however. Imagine a video game studio, in this case, Pentadimenional Games, created a game where you are essentially a galactic-traveling demi-god. A game where players can travel the solar system in a matter of moments and wield great power in destroying alien warships hell-bent on destroying the Earth. This is the world of Megaton Rainfall.

Megaton Rainfall is a recently released PS4 and PSVR title, where one lucky human has been granted tremendous power, transcending the limits of mortality and becoming a galactic being. Players can travel across the planets, from Earth to Mars and beyond in a matter of moments, fire energy pulses, and wield tremendous strength. As the Earth is under heavy assault from unknown invaders, it is up to you to use these profound powers to stop them from destroying humanity. Players are encouraged to fully use their free range of powers, but be mindful of the city below, as your powers can obliterate entire skyscrapers. Megaton Rainfall features a special Universal-Scale engine, meaning players can literally drop from orbit to the streets of a city in a matter of seconds. The game can be played both with and without PSVR.

Rogue Trooper Redux releases 101 Trailer, Now Available On PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Steam

Since it was announced this past winter, Rogue Trooper Redux, from English developer Rebellion, has been gaining a lot of traction and momentum. From PAX West to New York Comic-Con, Rogue Trooper Redux has garnered a lot of attention — and for good reason. Originally released in 2006 for the PlayStation 2, Rogue Trooper innovated many gaming mechanics that we see today as standard. From cover-shooting to the combat capabilities, Rogue Trooper blazed a trail for others to follow. Now, Rogue Trooper is set to storm the battlefield once more with Rogue Trooper Redux for the PlayStation 4, Steam, Switch, and Xbox One. To accompany the launch of the game, Rebellion has released a 101 trailer to show players the basics of what to expect on the battlefields of Nu-Earth.

Based on the 2000AD comic of the same name, Rogue Trooper Redux takes place in the distant future, where mankind has colonized several dozen star systems. They discover a new planet and name it Nu-Earth, but when the drums of war pound, all hell breaks loose. A massive intergalactic civil war is waged over Nu-Earth, engulfing the planet in poisonous gases and making it uninhabitable. Still, the warring sides continue to fight, fitting their soldiers in combat HAZMAT suits that are more dangerous than actual fighting. To adapt, one side has created the Rogue Trooper, a special bio-engineered soldier who is built to survive the fields of Nu-Earth and deliver a vastly superior advantage with cutting-edge firepower and enhanced physical abilities. Following a surprise attack turned massacre, you are the lone survivor (of your squad) — but your squad isn’t necessarily dead.  As you recover each member of your team, their consciousnesses are transplanted into bio-chips and added to your primary weapon. They are alive again, and they will give you live tactical feedback as you fight through the enemy.  The war is upon you; it’s time for you to go rogue.

Gundam Versus Unleashes Its Launch Trailer, Now Available

 

 

Celebrating the release of Gundam Versus here in the United States, Namco Bandai has released its Launch Trailer of the game. The trailer encompasses a variety of feedback from various players, who had the special opportunity to play the game as it made its way to the United States and Western Territories. The game received positive acclaim in Japan, and the momentum generated from the West convinced the developers and Namco Bandai to release the game here in the United States

Gundam Versus is a 3D brawling video game that encompasses the entirety of the Gundam Universe. Players can choose from a large variety of Gundams, then take to the battlefield, fighting in 1v1 or 2v2 combat. Players will be able to utilize every possible action of their particularly chosen Gundam, from blasters cannons to beam sabers. With a variety of game modes and extremely high production values, Gundam Versus was a massive success in Japan. The gameplay was praised for being tight and accessible for newcomers and fighting veterans alike.

Gundam Versus comes hot on the heels of the 38th anniversary of Mobile Suit Gundam and the 10th anniversary of Gundam Zero. Originally debuting in 1979, Gundam has spanned the decades, taking on new iterations and interpretations of mecha combat and space action. The originally introduced viewers to a massive interstellar civil war, between the Galactic Federation and the Principality of Zeon. While the series was popular, it wasn’t until the release of Gundam Wing on Cartoon Network’s Toonami block that catapulted the franchise into an international sensation. Gundam Wing, a mecha and space epic opera, followed the stories of six Gundams, secretly sent to Earth to disrupt the military aggression of the organization known as Oz. Soon, a conspiracy reveals itself and the 6 are trapped into a terrible conflict that could bring the Earth and space colonies into ruin.

Radial G Headed to PS4 and PSVR In The U.S, Slated For Release Before End Of 2017

 

Futuristic racing games aren’t anything new, but damn are they a lot of fun! This year, gamers have seen several different future racers arrive from LightField to Redout to Wipeout: The Omega Collection. Continuing this trend, Tammeka Games is bringing PlayStation owners Radial-G, a futuristic combat racer with a focus on tubular tracks.

Players will take to a large variety of different racing tracks, set across a multitude of planets across the Galaxy. The game adopts the tubular racing design, which will be familiar for gamers who may have played F-Zero X back in the day. This allows for full, 360 degree racing and an opportunity for the palyer to find the best possible track. AS these tracks take place in deep space, expect a variety of obstacles and challenges, all happening at insane speeds. Additionally, players will be encouraged to battle it out with an arsenal of weapons present on the track. The game also boasts a thumping soundtrack by various artists. Finally, the game will be playable with or without PSVR, making the game accessible for players, regardless if they have a PSVR headset.

Radial-G will launch on PS4 and PS VR sometime before the end of 2017. The game is currently available on Steam.

Raiden V: Director’s Cut launches Friday, October 6th for PlayStation 4 & PC

The newest installment in the legendary spaceship shmup series, Raiden, is making its way to the PlayStation 4 and blasting its way here in the west in the form of Raiden V: Director’s Cut. The fifth installment of the long-running franchise, Raiden V is a brand new game, featuring new weapons, levels, and an entirely new army to destroy.

Dubbed the original Japanese Bullet-hell shooter, Raiden is celebrating its 25th year in 2017. Known for its sheer difficulty, incredibly frantic gameplay, and wonderful visual presentation, the Raiden franchise has become a landmark in the development of spaceship- shooter.s LAst year, Xbox One owners had the special opportunity to experience Raiden V exclusively, but now, the game will move onto the PS4 and PC come next week.

Raiden V will come with a bevy of new additions for the PS4/PC port, including couch co-op and new missions. Raiden V also features new elements to differentiate itself from its predecessors, including a new health bar for health, instead of the one-shot, instant death mechanic. Additionally, the game will feature a new “Cheer” attack for secondary weapons, a fully narrated storyline, new ships, and a new HUD. To celebrate the release, UFO Interactive is releasing a physical copy for the PlayStation 4.
